CHAPTER 54: CH 54: FOUND YOU

After setting the driver straight, Cane and Ai quickly left for the inn. There were still too many dangers out here, so finding a safe place was the first step they needed to take.

PvsP could still be conducted in public areas, but never in a "safe zone", which included any temple, place to stay, etc.

"We should go and eat something soon. Come, follow me."

Cane told Ai, and they quickly headed toward the inn sector of the game. All kinds of inns existed in Clash Online, from normal to erotic to downright luxurious ones. What a player could afford depended on their own pocket.

For now, the pair chose a medium-range inn which had food included, and Cane paid for a single night. Tomorrow, he was going to head to a new region to check on some stuff.

He and Ai had ended up sharing the room once more to cut back on cost. It was not him being cheap this time either, because it had been Ai’s idea.

According to her, they had already shared personal space before, so once more should not matter to him. But he swore that he was never going to allow it to happen another time.

The room was spacious, and the bed was big enough for them both. Once they settled in, Ai decided to head out and take a bath.

"I’ll go and freshen up in a bit."

She took some of her clothes before Cane was left alone. He was looking at his system, finally getting some room to breathe and be alone.

He did not have a lot of messages, but he had two very interesting ones.

The first one was from Lee Heera.

[Lee Heera: Hello, do you remember me? I wanted to ask you to become my partner in the upcoming mage championship if I qualify in time. Please contact me to confirm.]

The message was short and simple — a message for help. Cane felt a little flattered that Lee Heera was asking him for help.

But at the same time, he felt confused as well, because why was Lee Heera asking him for help in the first place?

She was a streamer with over 2 million subscribers. She should not have a problem finding another top player to be her partner.

His instincts told him that he should ignore her because this was a trap.

Before giving her an answer, he opened the other message as well. It was from Daniel, and it was very similar to the one Lee Heera sent him.

[Dani: Wanna partner with me in the mage championship? I’m about to hit rank 3 for my character because I grinded so hard.]

In Clash Online, there were a lot of classes. But most of them came down to only two main categories — mage and melee.

So even if Dani was a priestess, he came under the broader mage category. And he was also high-ranked enough to qualify for the rankings.

And out of Daniel and Lee Heera, Cane preferred to work with Daniel.

So Cane sent them both their respective replies.

[Cane: I’m sorry, Miss Lee. But I have promised to be someone else’s partner for this competition. You should find someone else to help you out.]

[Cane: I will help you out, Dani. You can message me in real life on where you want to meet.]

Once the two messages were out, Cane threw his body on the bed and relaxed. His eyes threatened to close as his body sank into the bed mattress.

’I will check on everything later. For now, I should read a little more on the guides and the system—’

Even as Cane made up his mind, his eyes kept closing, and he finally fell asleep.

When Ai came out of the bathroom, she looked around for Cane before she noticed that he had fallen asleep on the bed. He looked peaceful and happy and also... alive.

She carefully touched his face before she pulled her hand back out of embarrassment. She had not meant to touch him like this.

But even if she did that, her eyes kept moving toward the man lying on the bed in front of her.

"I... do not want to lose you. But I am also aware that we will need to part soon. And whether we meet again in the future or not is... uncertain at this moment."

Ai stroked Cane’s head before she pushed his hair back.

"Still, I will do my best to try and come back for you. That much... I think I can say with confidence. And then, I will tell you all this to your face."

She promised before she lay down on her back as well. She kept looking at Cane the whole time she was in bed until her eyes finally closed and she felt sleep claim her.

However, while these two were having a good night’s sleep, not everyone was as lucky. Namely, Canari was someone not having a good time as she raged through the town.

"Where is he-? Where the fuck is that man who stole my holy sword and elixir? I am going to kill him as soon as I find him..."

She gritted her teeth as she tried to get herself under control. But no matter how much she tried, she was not able to control her emotions.

Canari felt like she had looked around every nook and cranny of the place but had not found anything of value. Now she was left wondering what to do next.

As she walked around, she suddenly heard someone else cursing, and she turned around to check on who it was.

"Darn it-! That stupid fucking customer and his partner. He had a ’kill-on-sight’ notice so I took pity on him. But he could not even pay me properly? He deserves to die for that."

It was an NPC, a driver from the looks of it. He looked visibly upset at something but stopped once he noticed her.

"Who are you and what do you want?"

He asked as soon as he noticed Canari.
