CHAPTER 56: CH 56: CAUGHT BY CANARI

"Quick, we need to leave. If we do get separated, then don’t try to fight Canari. Just run away as fast as you can. If you have to abandon or backstab me, then do that as well."

Cane warned Ai as he tugged her outside. She did not understand what he was so afraid of (mainly because she had not seen who Canari was yet). But she knew that she needed to be careful.

There was a loud crash from the inn behind them, and Cane flinched but did not turn to look back.

He took Ai away from that place and through the town, but he was not able to get very far when a blast blocked his way.

When the smoke cleared and he was able to look up, a familiar face looked back at him. Canari had not only found him, but she also seemed certain that she had found him.

"Oh-! If it isn’t the scum that has the ’kill-on-sight’ motif? I see that you have even taken to swindling innocent people now. What a shame. Now I have an even clearer reason to go after you."

Canari still seemed uninterested in hearing anything he had to say, but she at least seemed to think that Ai was innocent and being tugged around by him. Maybe he could use it to his advantage and allow Ai to remain unharmed.

Before he could say anything, Ai opened her mouth to correct Canari.

"T-That is not right. Cane is a good person who has helped me out a lot. He is not a criminal, you are making him out to be."

Ai promised as she stepped forward. Cane really wanted to find a way to pull her back, but he was too late.

Canari had noticed Ai as well and she frowned at her.

"You should stay out of this mess, miss. You do not know what you are getting into. I just feel sorry thinking how deeply you must have fallen for a criminal’s lies. Please, come here and we can get you detoxed."

Canari told Ai but Ai kept stepping back. She seemed uninterested in Canari’s invitation.

"I think...I can tell who is the better person in this situation on my own. I do not need you or your help."

Canari’s face went red at Ai’s words, and Cane just watched this exchange happen. He was now even more sure that Canari was going to kill Ai.

"Y-You-! I am going to kill you and then that criminal–"

Canari raised her fist and attacked. Cane tried to protect Ai, but he was too late. Canari was level 110 while Ai had...no visible level. Cane had never checked her level because she was an NPC.

Ai somehow found a way to block Canari’s attacks and hold her ground. When she looked up, even Canari looked shocked at Ai’s strength.

"W-What...how did you–?"

Cane looked at Ai and opened the system.

Ai was...level 120? No wonder her skills were too powerful and she was able to equip a shard of light so easily.

But for being level 120, she was rather clumsy.

She pushed Canari back, and Canari looked beyond shocked at this show of strength.

"Y-You–!"

Canari yelled as she gathered herself once more and launched another attack. But Ai was too fast for her and attacked back. They were fighting right in the middle of the town now.

"Oi-! This is crazy. Hurry up and record this. It will get us some mad views."

Some players whispered, and that snapped Cane into motion as well. He realized that this was an incredible time to farm engagement, so he quickly opened his stream.

People showed up quickly, and Cane did not even bother greeting them properly before he showed the fight on the screen.

"Hello, everyone. Today I have a special program for you—Ai vs Canari. You can place your bets on who you think would win this fight."

Cane told the audience and watched as messages started to pour into his chat. A lot of people took Canari’s side, but a few doubtful ones voted for Ai as well.

Once the poll was about to end, he decided to drop another information bomb on these people.

"Oh by the way–! Before you all doubt Ai, remember that she’s level 120. Don’t go underestimating her like this."

Everyone’s tone suddenly changed as they tried to change their votes. But it was already too late.

[Shura: This is fraud–!]

[Bugcontrol: How is that fair? You should have told us this before you made us bet.]

[HaremKingXXX: This is fraud. I am not going to take this lying down.]

The audience complained, but Cane did not care much about their complaints. He was happy about the engagement he was getting.

[WinWinWin: You might want to pay attention to the ongoing fight as well. I think you are about to become a target for these people.]

The sudden message made Cane look up, only to see that Canari had changed her target from Ai to him. Somehow, she had broken through Ai’s defenses to come after him...

’Does Canari think that Cane is an easy target for her to hit?’

Cane dodged that attack and then attacked Canari back. She was in a bad state because she had changed her race to be an ogre, which was good for attack but not for defense.

She likely wanted to increase her attack as a paladin instead of being defensive all the time, and that was going to cost her.

Cane carefully aimed at Canari before he shot at her. Canari was distracted due to Ai, so she never saw that shot coming her way. And by the time she noticed, it was too late.

The shot hit her, and for the second time, she died at his hand. And the chat went wild with this, covering Cane’s whole screen.
