365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet
Chapter 111: I’ll Kill Him
CHAPTER 111: CHAPTER 111: I’LL KILL HIM
Alaric Hawthorne returned the same smile and replied lightly, "Mason Lawrence is my patient. Regardless of whether I resign, I will see this through to the end. Zinnia is also my friend and a former schoolmate. Both professionally and personally, I should stay and help."
He didn’t back down in the slightest. His gaze rested on Jenson Forrest’s large hand draped over Zinnia’s shoulder, and he smiled again. "Since President Forrest and Zinnia are now registered as divorced, it would be more appropriate to keep your distance."
The pressure of Jenson Forrest’s hand on Zinnia’s shoulder increased, but the man’s expression remained placid as he raised an eyebrow. "It’s just the registration. Until everything is settled, nothing is definitive, right, Mrs. Forrest?"
Jenson Forrest leaned in slightly, whispering in Zinnia’s ear.
Zinnia of course heard the threat in his words. He was just one step short of explicitly saying he’d cancel the divorce registration if she didn’t behave.
Zinnia pursed her lips and glared at him before turning to Alaric Hawthorne with an apologetic smile. "Thank you for earlier, Alaric. You must be busy, and I can handle my own affairs. I won’t take up any more of your time."
Alaric Hawthorne looked at Zinnia with a gentle gaze. He smiled and nodded. "If you need anything, feel free to reach out to me anytime."
After he left, Zinnia turned to Jenson Forrest. "What Alaric said earlier is correct. We’ve already registered for divorce. I hope you can maintain some distance, President Forrest. Can you let go of me now?"
Jenson had just driven away his rival, and the sharpness in his eyes had softened. But at her cold words, it instantly returned.
Watching them gaze at each other with their usual intimacy, Crystal Sutton was seething with jealousy.
She gave Gloria Grant a push.
Gloria Grant stepped in front of Jenson Forrest with a mournful expression. "Jenson, Zinnia is just a young girl who has hardly traveled. How can I, as her mother, be at ease with her suddenly having to take her brother, who is in a vegetative state, abroad to live? It would be better for Mason to stay in the country where I can look after him. That would make things easier for Zinnia overseas as well."
In front of Jenson Forrest, Gloria Grant couldn’t directly bring up the ten million yuan she wanted from Zinnia, so she schemed to keep Mason Lawrence in the country. As long as she had control over Mason, wouldn’t Zinnia have to obediently send money back?
Angus Grant and his wife also tried to chime in, but Jenson Forrest’s cold gaze swept over them. His aura was so overpowering that the three of them were instantly silenced.
Zinnia scoffed. They only bully the weak and fear the strong.
Just as she was about to speak, Jenson Forrest nodded. "I think that’s reasonable. It’s better for Mason to stay in the country."
The trio’s faces instantly lit up with joy, clearly not expecting Jenson Forrest to actually side with them.
A chill ran down Zinnia’s spine, and it felt as if the blood in her fingertips was flowing backward.
Crystal Sutton frowned, her mind racing. Jenson Forrest isn’t this simple. He’s probably not supporting Gloria Grant just out of jealousy from the divorce to torture Zinnia. Mason Lawrence is important to Zinnia. Is it possible Jenson isn’t really going through with the divorce and wants to use Mason to keep Zinnia here? That can’t happen! She was filled with regret. If she had known Jenson would be like this, she should have just stayed quiet and let Zinnia leave the country without a hitch.
"My life is my business! What gives you the right to decide for me?"
Zinnia forcefully shoved Jenson, who let go of her shoulder only to grab her wrist.
He shot a look at Timothy Cohen, who then stepped forward to address Gloria Grant and the other two. "Our President and Mrs. Forrest have something to discuss. If the three of you would please follow me, I will ensure you receive a satisfactory resolution."
Knowing Jenson Forrest was on their side, Gloria Grant and the others didn’t ask any questions and happily followed Timothy Cohen away.
Crystal Sutton felt something was amiss and followed for a few steps, but Timothy Cohen blocked her path. "Miss Sutton, perhaps it’s best you don’t get involved. After all, you are no longer part of the Lawrence Family."
Timothy Cohen’s tone was polite yet distant, stopping Crystal Sutton in her tracks. She turned around, only to see Jenson Forrest already leading Zinnia away in the opposite direction, leaving her standing there alone.
Gritting her teeth in frustration, Crystal Sutton was about to chase after them when the door to the hospital room opened. Yara Fairchild emerged, drying her hair. She had just cleaned up in the bathroom after being pelted with rotten eggs while protecting Zinnia.
Seeing Crystal Sutton at the door, Yara walked straight up and grabbed her. "You bitch, what are you doing lurking around here? Spit it out! Were you the one who tipped off Gloria Grant and had someone throw rotten eggs at Zinnia, trying to humiliate her on the livestream?"
Crystal Sutton yanked her hand away. "I have no idea what you’re talking about! I was just visiting Mason and happened to run into this mess. Stop accusing me! If you have evidence, call the police. Stop screaming and making accusations. Have you already forgotten the lesson from being locked up last time?"
The situation had already turned around. The tall man who was livestreaming had clutched his stomach and fled without even trying to get his phone back, and the person who threw the eggs was long gone. Crystal Sutton was calm and openly mocking, clearly believing Yara and Zinnia couldn’t possibly have any evidence.
To her surprise, Yara Fairchild’s eyes brightened. She nodded and said, "You’re right. I’ll call the police right now. After all, the guy who was livestreaming left his phone with me. I wonder if the police can trace it back to the mastermind behind this."
Crystal Sutton’s expression stiffened. Useless fool. How could you get your phone snatched by a woman in the middle of a livestream?
Seeing Crystal’s ugly expression, Yara actually took out the phone and called the police on the spot.
「In the parking lot.」
Furious, Zinnia was pulled into the car by Jenson Forrest. "Jenson Forrest, my family’s business has nothing to do with you! I am determined to take my brother abroad for treatment, so stay out of it! And as for those Grant family leeches, don’t you dare think you can protect your precious reputation by making me bleed for them! I won’t do it!"
Zinnia thought it over. Jenson is only siding with Gloria Grant’s family to avoid being called heartless for not helping his ex-mother-in-law. He cares more about his reputation than whether I live or die. But he still has to see if I’m willing to play along.
With reddened eyes, Zinnia angrily gazed at the man beside her, looking ready to punch and kick him.
In contrast to her agitation, the man remained calm, stating simply, "Who said I was helping them drain you of your money? I only said your brother should stay in the country."
Zinnia frowned. "What do you mean?"
Jenson Forrest’s gaze was icy. "Zinnia Lawrence, it’s clear you haven’t taken my words to heart. I already told you I would find better specialists to treat your brother. I also told you that Alaric Hawthorne isn’t as simple and harmless as you think and that you should stay away from him! Are you deliberately trying to defy me? Looking for trouble, are you?"
The man tightened his grip on Zinnia’s wrist, causing her to tumble uncontrollably into his arms. Her nose slammed into his hard chest; a sharp pain shot through it, and her eyes instantly filled with tears.
She lifted her head to look at him, her own eyes burning with rage as she shouted, "You arrogant, rotten ex-husband! What gives you the right to control who I see? Fine, I’ll be with Alaric Hawthorne! We’ll not only go abroad together, but we’ll also—"
A large hand clamped over her jaw, pinching her cheeks together and silencing her reckless words. She glared at him, her eyes red and puffy, but his gaze held a brewing storm as he said coldly, "If you’re not afraid of me killing him, then keep talking."
He looked so much like a jealous husband catching his wife cheating. Zinnia stared at him, her gaze flickering as she fell silent.
