CHAPTER 19: CHAPTER 19: VISITING RELATIVES

"Jiang Jingming, how do I look in this outfit?"

Sang Yu came down from upstairs, wearing a shirt with small yellow flowers on the top and a yellow half-skirt on the bottom.

She wore a pair of chunky-heeled shoes and let her hair fall straight down her back with a yellow headband.

They had only hurriedly exchanged glances at the wedding while toasting, so she wasn’t sure if his family would like this style.

Even though she and Jiang Jingming didn’t have any feelings for each other, she was still meeting the elders,

so she felt a bit nervous inside.

In the instant Sang Yu appeared, Jiang Jingming’s gaze was already fixed on her.

The girl before him seemed like an elf running out from a field of flowers.

His gaze lingered on Sang Yu, his heartbeat erratic and in a wild rush, pausing briefly before pounding again.

"What’s wrong? Does it not look good?" Sang Yu didn’t hear a response from the man for a long time and couldn’t help but ask.

She looked up only to meet the man’s eyes, and in that moment, their gazes met in a flash, only to quickly turn away.

Sang Yu felt Jiang Jingming’s gaze seemed odd, as if he wanted to consume her.

"You look great," Jiang Jingming said.

His voice, like a deep cello, made Sang Yu’s ears and face feel a bit warm.

She quickly said, "Let’s get going then."

She picked up her things and hurriedly left.

Jiang Jingming watched her retreating figure with a hint of a smile and followed her out.

Inside the car, the closed space and quiet atmosphere made Sang Yu think of the man’s gaze again.

Even in the twenty-first century, she’d had relationships, albeit eventually ending.

She understood what Jiang Jingming’s gaze meant.

Could he like her?

But they’ve only known each other for a few days.

Sang Yu’s mind was now a tangled mess.

Soon, they arrived at the entrance of the house.

Quite a few people stood at the door.

Sang Yu was still a bit nervous.

"Don’t be afraid," Jiang Jingming suddenly said.

Sang Yu turned her head and saw the comforting look in Jiang Jingming’s eyes, she nodded.

After stepping out of the car, a woman came forward: "Xiao Yu, you’re here, how are you? Are you tired?"

She should be Jiang Jingming’s aunt.

"Auntie, I’m not tired," Sang Yu said with a smile.

Aunt He Xiulan looked at Sang Yu kindly: "Good, good, come inside, let’s talk inside."

"Yo, Xiulan, is this Jingming’s wife?" A neighbor aunt just happened to see this and called out.

"Yes, this is Jingming’s wife, named Sang Yu."

"Sang Yu, this is Aunt Wang."

"Hello, Aunt Wang," Sang Yu greeted politely.

Aunt Wang also smiled: "Hello, hello, she’s really lovely, this girl."

"Indeed," He Xiulan agreed, quite satisfied.

"Alright, I’m going grocery shopping, don’t want to hold you up," Aunt Wang said.

"Okay. Come over to our place when you have time."

He Xiulan took Sang Yu to the entrance, "Xiao Yu, this is your uncle, this is your cousin, this is your cousin’s wife, this is your cousin’s sister."

Sang Yu looked at the row of people in front of her and greeted them one by one.

"Hello, sister-in-law," Wei Jin smiled gently at Sang Yu.

Sang Yu looked at the cousin’s wife before her, a typical classical beauty with her hair up in a dark cheongsam, with a gentle smile.

"Hello, sister-in-law."

"Alright, enough talk, let’s go inside, inside," He Xiulan said.

So everyone surrounded Sang Yu as they went inside.

They seemed to forget about Jiang Jingming, who helplessly shook his head, and started taking the things from the car.

Once in the living room, He Xiulan warmly invited Sang Yu to have some fruit: "Come, Xiao Yu, have some fruit."

"I don’t know what fruits you like, tell Auntie so I can prepare them for you next time."

"Thank you, Auntie, I like them all."

"Good, good."

Sang Yu felt very touched, having been worried about whether Jiang Jingming’s family would be difficult to get along with.

But today’s enthusiasm made her nervous feelings relax immediately.

Sang Yu looked up and saw Jiang Jingming walking in, suddenly remembering she’d bought gifts.

"Oh, I brought gifts for everyone."

Sang Yu approached Jiang Jingming and took the things over.

"This is for Uncle and Auntie, supplements."

"This is for my cousin."

"This is for my cousin’s wife."

"And this is for my cousin’s sister."

"You silly girl, why bring gifts when you come," He Xiulan said playfully,

but was genuinely pleased, thinking the child was really nice.

It made her feel reassured.

"Your aunt is right, we’re all family, no need to be so formal," Uncle Jiang Songwen said.

"This is the first visit, can’t come empty-handed, it wouldn’t be polite, but next time I won’t bring anything," Sang Yu said playfully with a smile.

He Xiulan was immediately amused by Sang Yu’s playful demeanor: "Alright, alright, no need to bring anything."

"Xiao Yu, Jingming already told us about you and your cousin," He Xiulan suddenly said.

Sang Yu’s heart tightened, as this was what she had been concerned about.

After all, the original engagement wasn’t with Sang Yu but with Song Jiajia.

"Don’t worry, we were a bit upset when we first heard, but Jingming explained it to us. We understand; you were caught in a tough spot. We’re not unreasonable, so you needn’t worry. Since you willingly married our Jingming, we’re family now."

If she said she wasn’t touched, it would be a lie, Sang Yu: "Thank you, Auntie."

"Silly child, what’s there to thank," He Xiulan said, holding Sang Yu’s hand.

Jiang Songwen approached Jiang Jingming and said, "Jingming, come with me to the study."

Jiang Jingming glanced at Sang Yu, seeing her chatting with He Xiulan and the others, he felt reassured and followed Jiang Songwen.

In the study, Jiang Songwen got straight to the point: "Since you have no objections, Xiao Yu is now your wife, and you must treat her well."

Jiang Jingming nodded: "I know, Uncle."

"You tend to keep things to yourself, now you have someone around who cares, both your aunt and I feel reassured. Your parents, if watching over us from above, can also feel at ease."

Jiang Jingming pursed his lips.

"Though you’re no longer in the army, you’re now a policeman, which naturally involves risky tasks. Going forward, don’t just charge ahead without considering anything; always keep your wife in mind."

Jiang Jingming nodded: "I understand."

"Good that you do. I’ve said all that needs to be said. You two should consider having kids. You’re twenty-eight now, not exactly young."

Jiang Songwen suddenly paused: "How old is Xiao Yu?"

"Twenty."

A big age gap?

Originally, with Song Jiajia, it was only four years, now it’s eight.

Jiang Songwen looked at Jiang Jingming meaningfully.

Jiang Jingming chose to ignore it. What’s wrong with an eight-year gap? His parents were also seven years apart.

Jiang Songwen implied: Truly the new generation surpasses the old.
