A Crazy Love Proposal
Chapter 257 - 257 136 Climbing onto the Bed
Chapter 257: Chapter 136 Climbing onto the Bed Chapter 257: Chapter 136 Climbing onto the Bed Wen Yangzhi simply looked at the hem of her clothes, “I just want to have a proper talk with you, can we ask Yingyu to leave us alone for a bit?”
His voice was still low and mellow, familiar as the whispers that seemed to fill each night, but in that moment, Yun Yuwan stood silently behind Jiang Yingyu, without a word.
Calm like a sealed lake, no water flowing into it, never any waves or surges.
Jiang Yingyu intentionally shielded Yun Yuwan even more firmly, smiling but not stepping back an inch, even with a hint of irony:
“Brother, if you’ve come to Belgium to pursue Millie, then it’s too late. Back in China, you had many chances to talk to her.”
“This is a matter between Yuwan and me,” Wen Yangzhi did not regard him seriously.
However, Jiang Yingyu stepped back slightly, pressing gently against her, using his broad back to fully block her, amiably saying with a smile:
“I won’t leave Millie, but I also don’t want you to misunderstand her as fickle. Millie isn’t that kind of person; it’s just that I pursued her persistently, and she didn’t know I liked her before, truly seeing me as a good friend.”
The other party kept emphasizing that he had misunderstood Yun Yuwan, ostensibly speaking for him to hear, but perhaps actually speaking for Yun Yuwan’s benefit.
Wen Yangzhi didn’t care to pay him any mind, just waiting for Yun Yuwan’s response, he said lightly:
“There’s no need to say all this, I have no misunderstandings.”
But Yun Yuwan didn’t want to say a single word to Wen Yangzhi, only wishing to stay away from him. As soon as he approached, she felt uncomfortable, a sense of oppression settling over her.
She avoided addressing Wen Yangzhi, as if completely ignoring his presence:
“I want to go to Gaufres for some chocolate waffles, we just mentioned it, and if we don’t go now, we’ll have to queue later.”
Wen Yangzhi could hear.
And when Jiang Yingyu heard her completely ignoring Wen Yangzhi, he looked back at her gently saying, “Okay, let’s go have the waffles first.”
She began to walk.
Jiang Yingyu looked back at Wen Yangzhi, saying, “Excuse us.”
The two of them walked away like that, and Wen Yangzhi knew he couldn’t press her right now.
She was deliberately avoiding him.
When Wen Yangzhi found the shop, through the window glass, he saw Yun Yuwan and Jiang Yingyu sitting opposite each other, eating waffles.
Seeing chocolate sauce smeared by her mouth, Jiang Yingyu gestured to his own mouth to signal her. Unaware, it wasn’t until he stood up with a napkin to help her wipe it off.
Of course, if it were Wen Yangzhi by her side, he would have embraced her more intimately, wiping her mouth clean directly.
Meanwhile, inside the shop, when Yun Yuwan’s hand touched the napkin, Jiang Yingyu withdrew his hand, letting her wipe it herself.
She smiled at him embarrassedly.
None of these were particularly overstepping behaviors, it’s just that the atmosphere between her and Jiang Yingyu was different.
A completely different smile, back in China she was proud and flamboyant, in Belgium she was restrained and shy, but she seemed very relaxed by Jiang Yingyu’s side.
Quietly, just listening to Jiang Yingyu, she revealed a gentle smile.
Wen Yangzhi had never seen that before.
While cutting honey pancakes, Jiang Yingyu remarked, “… when they robbed me after I just arrived in London, I had nothing, the house was newly rented, and I slept on the floor with old clothes. When they came in and saw me, they asked for money, but I hadn’t exchanged any British Pounds, not a penny to my name. Feeling pity, when they left, they gave me ten pounds. Later, I saw one of them begging in the subway, and he even let me take some coins from his bowl to spend.”
Yun Yuwan’s eyes crinkled with laughter: “I didn’t know robbers like that existed.”
Jiang Yingyu helplessly spread his hands: “Maybe I was just too poor.”
Yun Yuwan laughed heartily, covering her mouth.
Wen Yangzhi watched her, in the setting sun, her smile in the restaurant was for someone else.
When the two came out, they saw Wen Yangzhi holding half a dozen Belgian flower beers.
He searched for Yun Yuwan as soon as he landed, without rest or pause.
The clean slicked back hair was now slightly disheveled, a stray lock covering his square forehead, the shadow of fatigue visible under his eyes even behind silver-framed glasses.
Wearing the same black turtleneck sweater she saw him in before she left the country, the details of his trousers slightly wrinkled from the long journey, and he still wore the couple’s ring on his well-defined fingers.
He stood on the bustling foreign street, one hand holding a black trench coat, the other carrying the beer she had always wanted to try.
But he simply said gently, “You mentioned wanting to try this brand of Belgian flower beer.”
Upon seeing the beer, Yun Yuwan merely smiled politely, “We’ve just had a meal, we can drink tomorrow as well, no rush. It’s rare for you to visit Belgium, you should look around, I’ll be here anyway, so you don’t need to hurry.”
She had been here for three years, yet this was his first visit, and he had many opportunities to come before.
Seeing her smile at him, Wen Yangzhi let out a slight sigh of relief but could not grasp her emotions.
But as she began to walk away, his voice was heavy and hoarse, “Can I invite you out tomorrow?”
She turned back to look at him, just saying softly, “Of course.”
Jiang Yingyu didn’t want to force her, clearly seeing that she didn’t want to meet Wen Yangzhi:
“Millie?”
Yun Yuwan softly replied, “He must be very tired, we shouldn’t disturb him any longer, let’s go.”
She spoke for Wen Yangzhi.
Jiang Yingyu could only look deeply at Wen Yangzhi, then walked away with her.
But the moment they turned around, she immediately took out her phone to check tickets to Italy.
Jiang Yingyu saw her phone screen and understood her intent as he looked down.
“I happen to know a band in Italy, we can hang out with them.”
She nodded slightly with a hint of joy.
Wen Yangzhi watched them walk among the tan-and-white houses, cobblestone pathways underfoot, the towering clock tower’s roof shining romantically in the sunset.
Actually, there was still some distance between them, they weren’t that close, but possessiveness crawled up within him, making him regretful.
Jiang Yingyu had heard people say breakups reveal true character, but he never expected to witness it firsthand.
She couldn’t have been more dignified, not uttering a bad word about Wen Yangzhi, never losing her temper in public, not speaking of her own grievances and pain.
Even making excuses for Wen Yangzhi.
His friends usually spilled all their woes after a breakup.
But Jiang Yingyu didn’t expect this meant Yun Yuwan had truly let go.
Because she was already treating Wen Yangzhi like a stranger, truly annoyed to reveal even the slightest emotion to him.
Back at Yun Yuwan’s home, after sunset, the butler dug out a check, rushing out of the kitchen with a frying pan in hand:
“It’s a check, it was under the stove, Millie, oh no, it’s already expired.”
Yun Yuwan and Jiang Yingyu were watching a television program, laughing so much they were leaning forward and back.
She glanced at it casually, still laughing, but said about the letter she once eagerly wanted to find, “Throw it away.”
Some useless things.
The butler breathed a sigh of relief, thinking it wasn’t important, ready to discard it.
The doorbell rang out of place, and the butler muttered, “Recently, there are always some vagrants and teenagers ringing the doorbell randomly, let me scare them off.”
But not long after opening the door, the butler rushed in, clutching that check, and said, panicked:
“There’s a very handsome man outside claiming to be your fiancé.”
The butler’s eyes fell on Jiang Yingyu, utterly astonished.
Wasn’t this the boyfriend Millie brought back from China?
So well-matched with Millie, and they were laughing and talking.
Jiang Yingyu’s smile froze instantly.
Yun Yuwan stood up and saw through the window Wen Yangzhi standing at the doorstep, a suitcase by his side.
She gently pushed the window open.
Wen Yangzhi stood under the pale doorway light, looking at Yun Yuwan, and asked softly, “May I stay here?”
But he was already gripping the trench coat in his hands tightly.
He feared staying elsewhere because he was afraid she would run away.
He didn’t dare to believe they would meet again, she had escaped more than once before.
Yun Yuwan still had a smile on her face, “Belgium has many places to stay; I’ll have the butler take you to a hotel nearby to get a room.”
He lowered his stance, pleading with her, “I can even sleep on the sofa.”
There was a momentary standstill; it was clear he wasn’t going to leave.
Yun Yuwan turned and whispered to Jiang Yingyu, “Let’s go to my room and watch; I have a projector there.”
Jiang Yingyu felt his mood soar.
Wen Yangzhi couldn’t hear what she was saying to Jiang Yingyu.
But shortly after, she looked at him and said, “I’ll have the butler set you up on the fourth floor.”
Wen Yangzhi’s heart relaxed slightly, at least she was willing to let him come in.
The butler stood behind, with a frying pan in one hand and the check in the other, glancing back and forth between Jiang Yingyu and Wen Yangzhi, unsure of how to handle this situation.
Which one was Millie’s boyfriend after all?
Or… were they both?
It turned out China was so open-minded, just like her native Netherlands; when she was young, she had never had fewer than five boyfriends in the Netherlands.
It seems she had misunderstood this ancient country.
Yun Yuwan and Jiang Yingyu went upstairs to watch TV; the butler casually threw the check into the living room trash can, which would have been very noticeable to anyone paying attention.
Late at night, Yun Yuwan had already fallen asleep when she suddenly felt the bed move.
She struggled to open her eyes, only to find Wen Yangzhi had climbed onto her bed, pulling back her blanket, shamelessly sleeping on her only little floral pillow, curling his long legs up on her 1.5 by 1.8-meter bed.
Back in Wen Garden, he always complained her 1.8 by 1.8-meter bed was too small.
Wen Yangzhi feared she would be annoyed, but Yun Yuwan didn’t react, just gave him a look, then closed her eyes again.
He was a bit pleased with himself, embracing her petite and warm body and snuggling together to sleep, just like they had every day for the past three months.
Every night they fell asleep hugging each other, sometimes following a kiss gently parting before happily drifting off, sometimes she would lie in his arms watching his phone, even if she didn’t understand the financial jargon, she would try to make sense of it, and he would explain every term to her, she’d listen until she fell asleep, sometimes right after getting intimate, still resonating with the afterglow of climax, weary yet content as they relied on each other to fall asleep.
He tried to kiss her, their lips met, and as he kissed her, he realized she was responding.
Wen Yangzhi was almost ecstatic with joy.
The next day he messaged Jiang Jianqing and said probably it was all okay now, her attitude toward him was softer, she allowed him to be close to her as usual.
But Jiang Jianqing on the other end didn’t smile:
“Wen Yangzhi, it’s really over this time.”
