CHAPTER 229: CHAPTER 227: THE HEAT IN HIS HANDS

Finally seeing the person coming, Shi Su’s ears were still filled with the endless mix of male and female voices from the room.

Zhou He, following behind, quickly stepped forward and closed the door, cutting off the nauseating sounds.

The nausea wasn’t caused by the two people in the room, but by the entire situation.

Shi Su only regained her senses when her ears finally cleared, and she instinctively reached out and grabbed Jing Jihan’s sleeve: "Are you alright?"

Jing Jihan looked at her with deep, dark eyes: "What do you think?"

He was standing there, neat and tidy, clearly not caught in a scheme, so he should be fine.

But when Shi Su’s hand inadvertently brushed against his as she held his sleeve, she felt an unusual warmth.

She said nothing, only looked at him in surprise, while the man held her hand down, soothingly patted it, and turned his gaze. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Tong Yuanyuan standing nearby, wanting to run but uncertain whether to due to the unclear situation, her expression extremely indifferent.

"Take her to the car," Jing Jihan ordered in a calm voice, his tone cool and unbothered.

Zhou He came over, glanced at Shi Su, and nodded to her, indicating that she should listen to Mr. Jing. This was not the place for her to be, lest she get caught up when the leaders from Jiang City arrived.

Those people had already become so audacious as to reach out their hands; did they really dare to use such despicable tactics? What desperation drove them to this point?

Since Jing Jihan told her to leave, there must have been a necessity to do so.

Shi Su didn’t forcefully stay, as she indeed had nothing to gain from the current scene before her.

Just as she turned to follow Zhou He into the elevator, she abruptly turned her gaze to Tong Yuanyuan, who was still stunned and panicked, watching the connection she almost shared with Jing Jihan’s hand, and his arm wrapped around Shi Su’s waist.

Tong Yuanyuan’s eyes were full of disbelief.

As Shi Su stepped into the elevator, another elevator stopped on the third floor, and Mr. Hao, half-drunk and unsteady on his feet, walked out, freezing for a moment when he saw Tong Yuanyuan, then suddenly turned and saw Jing Jihan standing outside the door, his face instantly changing color.

"Mr. Hao, you’re having a lot of fun," Jing Jihan said.

Mr. Hao’s eyes passed over Jing Jihan in confusion, then suddenly turned to look at the closed door opposite and the faint sounds of men and women coming from inside, his legs starting to weaken.

The elevator doors slowly closed; Shi Su could no longer hear the scene on the third floor, but her heart was pounding like a drum. Looking at her reflection in the elevator’s mirrored wall, it was as if she had suddenly come to her senses, realizing what she had done by rushing to the third floor.

Zhou He glanced at her, seeing the complex and bewildered look on Shi Su’s face.

He had been with Mr. Jing the whole time, and Mr. Jing had seen through the tricks just as they were about to enter the private room. Zhou He wasn’t as tense as Shi Su was, and he asked with a smile, "Miss Shi Su, are you alright?"

Shi Su looked back at Zhou He through the elevator’s mirror, seeing the clear hint of teasing in his eyes. Her face immediately flushed as she coughed lightly: "What’s wrong with me? I didn’t drink anything mixed with something."

If Mr. Jing hadn’t noticed the abnormality when entering the private room and coincidentally discovered someone sent as a replacement by Tong Yuanyuan, Shi Su wouldn’t have so easily avoided the laced drink brought by the waiter at the door.

Zhou He said nothing, but after the elevator stopped, he politely pointed outside. Shi Su walked out, following Zhou He to the parking lot outside, where she saw Jing Jihan’s car parked.

"Mr. Jing will be out soon; Miss Shi Su, you can rest in the car for a while," Zhou He said, opening the rear car door.

"Thank you."

Shi Su sat in the car and suddenly realized she had something in her hand. Looking down, she saw it was the room card Tong Yuanyuan had deliberately slipped to her earlier.

The scene in the room flashed before her eyes again, and Shi Su, as if struck by lightning, tossed the card out through the closing car door in disgust.

Zhou He saw this from outside, found Shi Su amusing, couldn’t help but laugh again, and after closing the car door, bent down to pick up the discarded room card, tossing it into the trash bin beside the parking lot.

The car was very quiet, and clean, without even a hint of the usual car fumes smell inside, and the not-so-cramped space gave her a strange sense of security. The peaceful atmosphere allowed her to calmly think over what had just happened.

Wen Ke firmly said once, "You really like that man."

Not try?

Don’t try, can’t afford to try.

Yet it seemed her own feelings were not as rational as she thought.

What exactly was she feeling when she rushed to the third floor, pushed open that door, and was led out with Jing Jihan’s hand covering her eyes?

She knew very well.

Shi Su rested her head against the car door, unconsciously rubbing her hand against her own hand’s back.

Earlier, when her hand brushed against Jing Jihan’s, she felt the warmth of his hand.

Even in this situation, he remained unfazed, as if nothing had ever happened.

She rubbed the back of her hand for a while, looking down at it. Anyone who didn’t know might have thought she was asleep, leaning motionless against the car door, but she wasn’t asleep; she was very awake.

About ten minutes later, she seemed to hear Zhou He’s respectful voice outside the car: "Mr. Jing, it seems Miss Shi Su is asleep in the car."

... She wasn’t asleep.

She raised her head slightly, intending to look outside when she suddenly heard the other car door open. In the next instant, she saw Jing Jihan sitting in the car, wrapped in the cold night air of Z City.

As Shi Su turned her gaze, Jing Jihan also looked at her: "Not asleep?"

She quickly sat upright: "Not asleep; I’m not a child. Such a big incident just happened, and you think I can sit in the car and sleep? Do I look that carefree?"

Jing Jihan sat beside her, and as the car door closed, Zhou He had already moved to the front, opened the driver’s side door, and sat down.

Initially, Shi Su had wanted to ask out of concern whether Jing Jihan had drunk anything when entering the club. She suspected that the drinks in the private room were fine, but something like the tea served by the waitstaff outside may have been tampered with.

But with a third person present in the car, she didn’t ask much, only observing Jing Jihan’s expression carefully.

The man’s expression was as usual, and because of her intensely focused gaze, he looked back at her. Their eyes met, and in the deep, dark eyes, she clearly saw a flame quietly burning.
