Chapter 24: The Base Demolition

    Falcon No. 1 is pretty large.

    Even with its wings folded, it’s one size larger than a large dog.

    The Research Lab isn’t that spacious, so with Falcon No. 1, it feels even smaller.

    Werner: “I only have dried ration bread.” “FaRU”

    Hati: “Hati loves dried ration bread!”

    We all ate the not so great dried ration bread and drank water.

    After our meal, Hati and Falcon No. 1 seemed pretty sleepy.

    Hati has been working very hard since noon, and Falcon No. 1 has been traveling long distances, so there’s no doubt that they’re both tired.

    Werner: “Just use the bed or couch as you like.” “FaRU”

    The Falcon No. 1 lays on my bed and begins to sleep.

    Hati laid next to the Falcon No. 1 and went to sleep as well.

    Once I see that Hati and Falcon No. 1 fell asleep, I start making the Magecraft Artifact that I completed today.

    While I was making the prototype, I was thinking about spare parts, so I built many extra spare parts in advance.

    That’s why I don’t have to make many new parts to make new units. The majority of the work is to build and make slight adjustments.

    As I think about giving this to my sister, I need to expand the device’s range to not just a small Research Lab, but protect a wider area.

    By the time midnight struck and the calendar date changed, I was able to make 10 more Barrier Generators, and I decided to take a bath before going to sleep.

    Once I got out of the bath, I laid in between Falcon No. 1 and Hati who were fast asleep comfortably in bed.

    As I laid down, Falcon No. 1 briefly opened its eyes.

    And it drew closer and nestled against me.

    Werner: “Thank you. You’re really warm.”

    “.........FaRU”

    Falcon No. 1 closed its eyes and went back to sleep.

    Though it’s the middle of winter, because of Falcon No. 1 and Hati, I was able to stay warm throughout the night.

    The next morning.

    I woke up in between Falcon No. 1’s incredibly soft and warm feathers.

    Hati was also buried inside Falcon No. 1’s feathers.

    Werner: “Thank you. You kept me very warm last night.”

    “FaRU”

    As we ate breakfast, I taught Hati and Falcon No. 1 about my Master’s directions and about destroying the base.

    Since the Barrier Generator was complete, I also told them about how I was moving back to the Capital as well.

    Hati: “What?! You’re going to destroy it without leaving a trace? How wasteful.”

    “FaRU!”

    Werner: “Well, yes, I feel the same way, but we will be removing all the important belongings, and we’ll be able to build a new base very quickly.”

    Hati: “Is it really like that?” Werner: “Yes, and it’s much more important to make sure the bad guys don’t take advantage of this place.”

    Hati: “Hmmmm, well, anyways. I can’t wait to get to the Capital! I want to eat a freshly baked dried ration bread!”

    Werner: “If you’re going to eat something straight out of the oven, it’ll be better to try regular bread.”

    Hati: “Hmm?” Werner: “It will most likely be better than dried ration bread. At the very least, I like regular bread more than dried ration bread.”

    Hati: “Really?! I can’t believe there would be anything more delicious than the dried ration bread!!”

    And we finished our breakfast.

    I will have to start preparing to demolish the Research Lab.

    Werner: “Falcon No. 1, are you feeling tired? I’m in no hurry to move to the Capital, so if you are tired, you can stay here for 2 or 3 more days.”

    “FaRU-FaRU!”

    Falcon No. 1 spread its wings confidently as if to assure me that it was in good condition.

    Because its wings were so large, it almost touched the lab’s ceiling.

    Werner: “If you’re feeling well, I’m glad. Are you going back to Professor Kay now?” “FaRU!”

    Werner: “Then take this with you.”

    “Fa～RU!”

    I gave him one of the Barrier Generators, and Falcon No. 1 placed it in his pouch.

    Werner: “I should probably write a letter too, but it’s too much trouble. My Master would be able to understand my situation by just looking at the Barrier Generator.”

    “FaRU”

    And I began preparing the explosives to blow up the Research Lab.

    I placed all the important things into a Magic Bag that I invented.

    Once that was done, I set the explosives that I designed for mining purposes all over.

    After placing about 10 of these, Hati spoke up.

    Hati: “Do you really need that many bombs? Those bombs are extremely powerful, and your research lab is so small.”

    Werner: “Since my Master asked that I leave no trace of it, I can’t just blow it up regularly.”

    Hati: “Oh really?”

    I placed another 10 explosives totaling 20 now, and then made some adjustments.

    I made sure that the heat and blast wave will consolidate so the Research Lab will reach extremely hot temperatures.

    Hati: “My Lord, I was just thinking…..” Werner: “What is it?” Hati: “If it’s my Lord, you do not have to use these bombs and can take care of this with your Spells, no?” Werner: “I can, but wouldn’t that be much more tiring? And we also have a lot of bombs I made in the past. I thought it would be a good opportunity to be able to use it all up.”

    Hati: “I seeーー”

    “FaRU”

    Once the preparations were complete, we left the underground research lab.

    We walked towards the direction of the Capital for a while, and after there was some good distance between us and the labーー

    Werner: “Okay, let’s detonate the devices.”

    Hati: “I’m looking forward to it!”

    “FaRU～FaRU”

    Werner: “3… 2… 1… …….detonate!”

    ーーKABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

    A pillar of fire stood up from where the Research Lab once stood.

    A moment later, the blast reached us.

    Hati: “FUOOOOOOO!!”

    “FAAAARUUUUU!!”

    Both Hati and Falcon No. 1 shrank with surpriseーー

    Werner: “Don’t worry.”

    I turned on the Barrier Generator as soon as I detonated the explosives.

    The Barrier that stood up did not even budge from the massive blast that rolled over us.

    Hati: “ThーThat’s amazing! The blast from the bomb and the barrier were both incredible!”

    “Fa, FaRU～”

    Werner: “Thank you. It’s a little embarrassing to say it since I made it, but this Barrier Generator is really useful.”

    Hati: “It is a revolutionary invention!!”

    “FaRU-FaRU”

    Both Hati and Falcon No. 1 kept complimenting me.

    We all returned to where the blast started, and after confirming that the Research Lab was completely obliterated, we began walking towards the Capital.

    “Fa～RU～”

    Falcon No. 1 came back to confirm the results of the explosion, and then after bowing a few times, flew off.

    It’s probably going back to where my Master is.

    Werner: “Be careful on your way back, Falcon No. 1!”

    Hati: “Come back and visit us anytime～”

    “Fa-FaRU～”

    Since Falcon No. 1 was a Giant Eagle, it flew very quickly.

    Before long, it was too far to see.

    Hati: “It was cute, and it will feel lonelier without it.”

    Werner: “Yeah, but I’m sure we’ll meet it again.”

    Hati: “My Lord, it made me think after seeing Falcon No. 1, but if Hati gets bigger, I can fly you to the Capital.”

    Werner: “................yeah, that’s true.”

    If Hati at her full height travels to the Capital, all the people who witness her coming will be frightened.

    But it’s still a 5 hour walk to the Capital. Being able to travel faster is extremely alluring right now.

    Werner: “If we fly all the way to the Capital, we’ll scare the citizens. Can you fly me to a location that is about a 1 hour walk to the Capital?” Hati: “Leave it to Hati!”

    And Hati grew back to her full size, and riding on her back, we traveled to a location close to the Capital.
