CHAPTER 48: 045 DRAGON POOL AND TIGER’S DEN
Just as she walked into the living room, Yun Shu turned around and slapped Kang Jinse across the face with a loud "smack".
"How dare you deceive me?"
With her face covered, Kang Jinse sobbed quietly in grievance, "Aunt Yun, I didn’t know anything about this. This must be some misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?" Yun Shu threw the paper in her face, "It’s written here loud and clear—you’re not pregnant at all. How dare you use this to deceive me, Kang Jinse, I’m truly disappointed in you."
Yun Shu’s face was as cold as frost, infuriated by the notion that she had been fooled by this woman.
Kang Jinse dropped to her knees with a "thud", crying as if her heart was breaking, "Aunt Yun, please you must believe me. How could I dare to deceive you? During my last visit to the hospital, the doctor personally told me I was over two months pregnant. I don’t understand why, but this test suddenly shows I’m not pregnant. Aunt Yun, how could I dare to use this to deceive you? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have dared to go with you to the hospital for a check-up."
Yun Shu’s expression softened a bit, and she frowned at Kang Jinse: "Considering the years of our relationship, I will give you half a day to provide a reasonable explanation. After that, I don’t want to see you ever again."
Kang Jinse nodded hastily; this was her last chance, and she had to hold on to it with all her might.
Yun Ya listened to the noise coming from downstairs, lips curling with scorn. What a wonderful drama indeed.
So it was a fake pregnancy; that explained it.
But there seemed to be more to it.
Just as Kang Jinse had said, if she had faked her pregnancy, she wouldn’t have gone to the hospital with Yun Shu for a check-up today, as it would have just exposed her own lies. Kang Jinse was clearly not that foolish, so what exactly went wrong here?
——
Kang Jinse first went to the hospital where she had been told she was pregnant. As luck would have it, that doctor was on duty that day. She cornered the doctor at the restroom door while they were taking a bathroom break.
"Dr. Li, I hope you can give me a reasonable explanation, or I will ensure your reputation is completely ruined, and you’ll never work in this field again," Kang Jinse threw her test results at Dr. Li.
Dr. Li had a deep impression of Kang Jinse, as she was a celebrity to some extent, attractive and certainly not someone you’d easily forget. He picked up the results, sighed, and said.
"Miss Kang, I have been trying to find you."
Kang Jinse’s eyebrows shot up, "You have the nerve to look for me? Quack, do you realize you almost killed me?"
"I got the test results mixed up and misdiagnosed your condition. I am truly sorry for that."
So the test results had been swapped, meaning she was really not pregnant. Upon learning the truth, Kang Jinse almost couldn’t breathe, glaring at Dr. Li with a contorted face: "You nearly killed me. Do you think a simple apology will do? There’s no such easy way out in this world. How can an irresponsible doctor like you be qualified to treat people? I’m going to file a complaint against you right now, so you can never work in this field ever again."
Dr. Li finally started to panic: "Miss Kang, please don’t..."
With a cold smile, Kang Jinse said, "I might consider sparing you, but that depends on how obedient you are..."
——
"...That’s what happened, Aunt Yun. It was all the quack doctor’s fault. I had no idea about any of it...," Kang Jinse begged pitifully.
Yun Shu, not expecting such a blunder, waved her hand dismissively: "Forget it, I don’t feel like pursuing this matter. Since you’re not pregnant, you have no excuse to stay here anymore. Pack up your things and move out this afternoon."
Despite feeling reluctant, Kang Jinse could only swallow her pride and nodded submissively, "Thank you for your concern during this time; it was Jinse who was immature..."
Yun Shu gave her another glance: "You’re a smart woman. I’ll pretend this never happened. What happens next is up to your own fate."
Kang Jinse bowed her head: "I understand."
It seemed that Aunt Yun still slightly favored her. So what if she wasn’t pregnant? She would win his heart back eventually.
——
Yun Ya received a call from Uncle Qin in the afternoon—Aunt Die had been found.
It turned out she had been taken to an entertainment club, becoming one of the most degraded women there. Uncle Qin found her just in time, or Aunt Die’s purity would have been completely ruined.
Yun Ya bit her lower lip hard, containing the hatred in her heart.
Such treatment of a woman was cruel beyond words.
To make an example of Yun Shu, Aunt Die was innocently implicated.
"How is Aunt Die now?"
"Her emotions were quite volatile at first, but now she’s asleep. Don’t worry, Yun Ya, I’ll take good care of her."
"Uncle Qin, please take care of her for me a little longer. She shouldn’t return to the Ji Family yet; it’s too dangerous. I alone am enough for this den of tigers and dragons."
She heard Uncle Qin’s helpless sigh: "Yun Ya, do you know how much Uncle Qin cares for you?"
Without blinking, Yun Ya replied, "If Uncle Qin really cares about me, then help me one more time, please."
——
Bai Ran didn’t get home until it was dark. In the living room, Bai Lun sat upright, with his wife Gu Chunrong by his side. As soon as he saw Bai Ran, he greeted her warmly, "Ranran, you’re finally back."
"Sister-in-law," Bai Ran greeted flatly.
Bai Lun scoffed, "You still know how to come back?"
Bai Ran, uninterested in arguing, headed upstairs.
Gu Chunrong shot Bai Lun a look, then turned to Bai Ran with a smile, "Ranran, change your clothes and come down to eat. Your sister-in-law made your favorite sweet and sour fish."
"Got it," Bai Ran responded.
At the dinner table, Gu Chunrong placed a piece of delicate white fish into Bai Ran’s bowl: "I had the housekeeper go all over the city to buy the freshest grass carp. Try it, see if it suits your taste."
As the aroma kept hitting her nose, Bai Ran suddenly felt nauseous, her face turned pale, and she ran towards the restroom, covering her mouth.
Gu Chunrong dropped her chopsticks in alarm, "Ranran, what’s wrong with you?"
