CHAPTER 58: 055 HIS YAYA

After setting the scene, footsteps echoed from outside. Yun Ya took one last look at the now deceased Yun Sha. Deep within her pitch-dark eyes, a hint of pity was deeply hidden, swiftly overcome by an overwhelming and merciless coldness, akin to a harsh winter blizzard blanketing the sky.

A wall stood at the entrance of the restroom, dividing it into two exits on the left and right. Almost the moment Yun Ya stepped out of the door on the left, the driver who had been waiting to no avail poked his head out from the door on the right.

"Elder Sister Yun?" The middle-aged driver called out.

After a long silence, with an echo almost audible, the driver’s heart suddenly thumped violently for no apparent reason, an ominous premonition creeping over him.

He glanced around, with no one going in or coming out, he gritted his teeth, "Elder Sister Yun, I’m going in?"

No sooner had he spoken than he stepped inside.

The corners of Yun Ya’s mouth imperceptibly curled into a faint smile.

Taking quick steps forward, she then saw Yun Miao standing at the doorway of the restroom. Yun Miao smiled gently upon seeing Yun Ya, standing in the slanting sun, looking warm and pure like a little angel bathed in the beautiful light.

Suddenly feeling a sting at the tip of her nose, Yun Ya nearly ran over and hugged Yun Miao tightly.

She hadn’t yet allowed her emotions to overpower her reasoning; now wasn’t the time for sentimentality. She took Yun Miao’s hand and quickly left the place.

Dodging the crowd, Yun Ya exited through the service station’s back door. The station was built in a secluded wilderness, and beyond it lay vast farmlands. It was April, fragrant with new life, the green wheat waves meeting the sky like lotus leaves, the horizon endlessly unfolding, scents of fresh earth and wheat filling the air.

Yun Ya, holding Yun Miao’s hand, walked along the maze of narrow paths between the fields, their figures nearly concealed by the wheat.

Yun Ya took out her cell phone, only to find she had no signal.

Pressing her lips together, she looked up at Yun Miao, "Miaomiao, are you scared?"

Yun Miao obediently shook her head, gripping Yun Ya’s hand tightly.

Yun Ya hadn’t gone far; she and Yun Miao hid in the wheat field. They couldn’t be found by Yun Shu, at least not now, or else everything she had done today would be meaningless. Yun Shu had a thousand ways to make her and Miaomiao disappear silently. Miaomiao was frail and couldn’t go far; for now, they could only wait for Uncle Qin to arrive.

The sky gradually darkened, and a streak of twilight shone through the patchy wheat waves onto them. Yun Ya clutched Yun Miao’s hand, her heart still uncontrollably trembling, yet her blood boiled in her veins.

She thought she must have gone mad.

In her past and present life, this was the first time she had killed someone.

Far from feeling any guilt, she found herself inexplicably excited. Taking someone’s life, watching their shocked, hateful gaze, wishing she could be buried without a trace, yet only able to helplessly await Death’s approach—she felt as though her soul was dancing and singing, cheering and applauding for her.

She wasn’t wrong; she did it all for her own good. Living was such agony, death was a relief...

Besides, it was the other who made the first move, she was merely defending herself, she wasn’t wrong... she wasn’t wrong...

She consoled herself like this, but couldn’t suppress the waves of nausea rising to her throat. She turned pale as death, suddenly breaking away from Yun Miao’s hand, turning around to vomit on the ground, tears streaming down her face.

"Heh... haha..." She suddenly laughed, hair disheveled. In the gradually darkening skies, her figure appeared sinister and terrifying.

Why have I become this kind of person?

She looked at her open hands, so fair and soft, exquisite like works of art, yet she felt filthy, as if lice and ants were crawling over her, biting and gnawing at her skin, painfully itchy, those insects breaking through her flesh, entering her veins, traveling across her limbs along the lines of her skin.

Suddenly she fell to the ground, rolling back and forth, clutching her body, with a hoarse and helpless wail emanating from her throat, sounding like the desperate cries of a wild beast.

The empty fields, the dim sky, as tragically beautiful as a bloodstained sunset, all composed her despairing thoughts about this world.

Her body started to sink, she wished to sleep forever, where neither torment nor pain would ever find her again.

Yun Miao gazed blankly at Yun Ya, who seemed to have suddenly gone mad. The psychic connection between the twins allowed him to feel the fear and helplessness inside her heart, as if she were a lost little animal, unable to find the way home, so bewildered and hesitant.

He suddenly crouched down to hold her, his mouth opened wanting to say something, but he could only emit "ugh ugh" in monosyllabic, muffled grunts. Desperate to overcome the obstruction in his throat, his face red with urgency, tears falling in large drops. However, his congenital disability meant that he would never be able to break through that barrier.

Warmth swept over her as if spring water enveloped her, every pore in her body opening up.

"Miaomiao... my Miaomiao..." She clung to him tightly, as if a drowning person grasping the last straw, resolved not to let go even in death.

He smelled fresh like the sunlight, like the scent of green grass, reminiscent of the most free and warm wind over the vast grasslands, gradually soothing the agitation and unease within her. She became calm, curling up in his arms, yet her hands still clutched forcefully at the front of his shirt.

Yun Miao gently and repeatedly patted her shoulder, driving away all her fears and hesitation, bringing her warmth and strength.

His lips moved silently, no one heard what he was saying, but the warmth gushing from his eyes seemed to have the courage to warm the entire world.

He said, "Yaya, don’t be afraid, I will always be with you."

From the moment they became a fertilized egg, fate tightly intertwined them, developing together, growing together, born together, experiencing the ups and downs of life together. No one understood her more than he did, and no one understood him more than she did.

To each other, they had long been one, like fish can’t leave water, like birds can’t leave the sky. If one were lost, the other would immediately wither and die...

His Yaya, her Miaomiao...

Don’t be afraid, I will — always be with you, even death can’t stop the strides of my love for you.

And this love had already transcended the bounds of life, surpassing the ties of kinship and romance, in this life, without regret...

The sky turned pitch black, and all around the stillness was such that only the sounds of insects could be heard, each chirp passing clearly into the ears.

The two little ones hugged each other for warmth, even as the night wind was bitterly cold, their hearts were brimming with warmth.

When Yun Ya was in a daze, someone picked her up, she could smell the fresh fragrance on this person, and feel the chest that was slender yet firm.

A low sigh came from above her head, then a coat was taken off to cover her, the person tried to pry apart her grasp on Yun Miao, but couldn’t, "Yun Ya, Yun Miao will be okay, let go."

That familiar and gentle voice, tinged with a hidden touch of pity, caused her to finally loosen her grip, and she lapsed completely into unconsciousness.
