CHAPTER 486: STOPPING THE PLAGUE SOURCE [II]
There are plenty of abandoned mausoleums in the area, but there is only one that has an entrance that leads underground. It was the smallest mausoleum out of all of them. It took them some time before they found it. Inside a simple mausoleum with 6 graves that seems to have been empty for a long time, the a doorway that leads to the catacombs.
"And here I thought the bigger the place, the more obvious it is that the place where the entrance would be. Who would have thought it would be placed on the smallest mausoleum?" Adelaide scratches her head as she glances at the dusty entrance.
"This one might be the exception. Perhaps they wanted to make sure the entrance is as inconspicuous as possible, considering that the place is where the rich people are being buried. Perhaps it is a sort of style to dodge the eyes of the graverobbers. If I were a graverobber, the bigger and grander the mausoleum, the richer the people being buried there," Elaina said as they slowly descended to the entrance of the catacombs.
"Fair enough. Making the mausoleum small enough is something that they are going to ignore. And if they make it as unremarkable as the regular gravestones that commoners have used, the people will not expect much of it. Quite simple but clever if I say so myself," Alfred nodded in understanding.
Soon, they reached the bottom of the stairs, and the light that was present on the surface was now gone.
"[Light]" Adelaide cast a simple magic that allows for a floating ball of light to float near them. It is bright enough to cast light in their surroundings. However, upon the light’s cast, a rattling figure appeared near them.
"Skeletons?!" Layla was shocked and was almost grabbed by it when Arthur quickly appeared next to her and kicked the skeleton hard.
BANG!
The skeleton broke into pieces upon contact with the wall after Arthur kicked it hard. However, even though it was destroyed, the skeleton that was broken into pieces starts to reassemble itself once more.
"Break the skull!" Alfred shouted.
Without hesitation, Arthur quickly stomps his foot down on the rattling skull and breaks it into pieces. The moment it was destroyed, the rattling bones that were attempting to reassemble themselves stopped moving and remained inanimate again.
"Thanks for the help, Arthur..." Layla smiled while still looking terrified by the encounter.
"So there are still remnants of that necromancer’s influence here? Does that mean the catacombs right now are crawling with undead?!" Raye frowned.
Elaina turned to look at Adelaide, and it seems that her daughter understood what she wanted her to do without telling her what to do.
"[Light Ray!]"
The ball of light floating around the group expanded and the light that was small and only enough to illuminate the surroundings of the group spreads all over the place. As soon as the light spread evenly all over the unlit areas, the rattling bones of the skeletons appear before the group as they march towards them.
"It seems that after the events of the Necromancer summoning skeletons, it doesn’t just involved those on the surface graves but also the ones buried on the catacombs. Since no one went into the catacombs, the dead there remains active till this day," Alfred explained as he readies his sword.
"Shouldn’t the spell reverts the corpses back to inanimated after the death of the Necromancer? Its been a long time since that happened right?" Elaina frowned. She have read a lot of things regarding various phenomena and that includes the undead summoning that a necromancer can do."
"Normally, that is indeed the case; however, it seems that the necromancer used a different approach of things that allowed him to keep the skeletons alive even without his control. It is a means to keep the skeletons wrecked and cause chaos even when he is gone. Which is why these skeletons are still moving even when their summoner is gone."
"Mother, Father, perhaps we can discuss that thing later, the skeletons are here!" Adelaide interrupts the conversation between the two.
"Right. Elaina, I bet you already have experience fighting against these things?" Alfred looked at Elaina, who was rummaging in her bag.
"Of course, since they are small fries, but I have something I want to test out for a bit and see its effectiveness."
Without warning, Elaina threw two things to the floor, which suddenly burst into vines and quickly formed into their forms that the catalogue specifies. The first is the Sword Seed. As soon as the seed blooms and forms into a plant with a sword, the small thing began to move by itself using its vines as a way to move, like some kind of tendrils from the tentacles of octopuses or similar things.
Because it is a plant, the skeletons ignored the sword vine and allowed the latter to do what it needed to do. In quick succession, precise sword strikes break each skeleton into pieces, and before they reform again, their skulls are sliced to pieces once more, destroying their cores in the process.
Watching the seed attacking, Elaina noticed that the way it moves is similar to how she fights with the sword. The shape of the sword is even similar to her sword as well, which is probably not a coincidence, considering the one who made it is none other than the God of Farming.
As for the second seed that she has thrown alongside the Sword Seed is the Shield seed, though from the looks of it, there’s no need for the shield seed to be deployed,d considering the former is already doing all of the work that defending them is not needed.
"Uh...Elaina? Was that something you are growing?" Alfred asked, puzzled.
"I guess so? I mean it came from the farm..." Elaina scratches her head.
"I don’t remember you growing these things, Mom. Is it perhaps on the dungeon farm?" Adelaide asked.
"Ah, yeah. I harvested them recently...which is why I managed to get them to work."
If only she could say that, although she managed to obtain it from farming which allows her to earn the currency to purchase something in the Catalogue, all she did was just buy these seeds without even doing the hard work of growing it. But there is no way they will believe that.
