A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 487: Stopping the Plague Source [III]
CHAPTER 487: STOPPING THE PLAGUE SOURCE [III]
Despite the Sword Seed dealing lots of damage against the skeletons, it isn’t avoidable for it to get damaged. The skeletons in the area still manages to attack and wound the Sword Seed. And so, even though it managed to shred all over the horde of skeletons in the process, it wasn’t enough to decimate every skeletons in the way and ended up dying in the process.
"Ah! Mother, your plant!" Layla pointed out as the Sword Seed deliver a final slash to one skeleton before it was bitten and torn to pieces by one of the skeletons, causing it to wilt and die.
"With how many skeletons attacking it since earlier, I was impressed that it managed to last that long. Still, thanks to that, the enemies in the area has thinned out. We can now proceed into the area without fearing for ambush and wipe them all out before they become a real problem," Alfred suggested.
"Alright, let’s clear them out before they become troublesome creatures. We can’t get any loot on them even if they die so don’t bother kids, let’s get this started," Elaina said as she readies her sword.
Everyone nodded and they started fighting each skeletons. Even Layla is doing it by smacking them with her staff. Since the skeletons are too brittle, one light strike is enough to break them to pieces.
Still, everyone didn’t move out far from one another and just moved together. Considering that there is still a huge chance it will become dangerous, they didn’t stray far from the Shield Seed that is helping out to catch stray attacks.
Elaina observed the Shield Seed’s performance. Like a regular shield, it does block off any incoming attacks and either bounce them off or just completely stopping it from doing anything. She have yet to see it block any magic though which is natural since there are no magic users among the enemy and Elaina didn’t want to have it tested out with how it also have health.
But overall, the Shield Seed is very good at blocking any attack whether it is melee or a range attack and whether one have seen the attack or it was a stealth attack, as long as it is directed to their direction.
Since the most of the undead summoned were dead after the Sword Seed’s attacks, the clean up process wrapped up easily and the hallways of the catacomb is once again safe.
"Still, I didn’t expect the catacombs to be this big and it is just underneath the town. Considering the number of skeletons wandering around, it wouldn’t be weird for a few to dig up and find their way to the surface and terrorize the populace, right?" Adelaide commented.
"Yes. It is a miracle the undead did not dig up or even break through the entrance. Perhaps the darkness was just causing them to halt movements for the time being and when we lit up the surroundings allowed them to be active again," Elaina guessed.
"Aren’t undead and skeletons not sensitive to light? It didn’t matter to them if there is light or not, they will be moving just fine," Alfred frowned.
"I think you mean the regular undead and skeletons. Yes, those things would ignore that since that is how they work in dungeons where light is barely present in the first place. But necromancy produced skeletons and undead are sensitive to light and sound, making them only move when something caught their attention or if they detect light which they will follow."
"Now that you mention it, those characteristics are missing on most undead we faced when we fight in dungeons. So that is why..." Alfred nodded after gaining a tidbit of info that is new to him.
Elaina turned to Layla who is currently closing her eyes and seems to be whispering in the air. "How about it Layla, are we near the target?"
"Yes. It won’t be taking us too long before we arrived at our intended target. It seems to be currently slumbering at the moment. We can continue to its lair without disturbing it awake and kill it before it starts stirring up trouble."
"Good to know. We should be moving a lot more quiet this moment on. If we can minimize the effort of dealing with the enemy, we should do it."
Everyone nodded and they proceed to move as quiet as possible. Adelaide also made the light that illuminates their surroundings a lot more smaller and contained to ensure that it doesn’t shine towards their target and causes it to wake up from sleeping.
As for Elaina, she has the Trap seeds ready to go and use. Since the enemy is Plague Bringer is sleeping, the trap seed is perfect to restrain and kill it before it can attack. She needed to ensure how the Trap Seeds work properly in case she wanted to have a good utilization of it in the future.
Progressing through the catacombs, the skeletons were lesser deeper into the area for some reason which works in their favor for keeping everything a lot more quiet. Despite the less enemies, thr group did not drop their guard down. Who knows what enemies lurk in the dark and their only way or stopping each attack is the Shield Seed that is also nearing its duration time.
But thankfully, it seems that they didn’t need to move farther than usual as Layla soon warns them.
"The target we are lookinfmg for is just up ahead, Mother."
Hearing that, everyone made sure to keep their mouths quiet and their actions to have less noises as possible.
"I will inspect the target for now and see it for myself. You too Elaina, back me up in case things gets hairy. As for everyone, get yourselves ready in case we failed the ambush."
As they slowly enter the chamber where the enemy is hiding, Elaina can smell the rotten smell she can’t explain. It was like it was the smell of rotten egg and a smelly boots combined together. It was so foul that she can’t help but feel ready to vomit.
But before she can do so, Alfred quickly shoved a candy on her mouth. As soon as her mouth made contact with the candy, the smell she is smelling just now disappeared and was exchanged with a fruity flavor smell.
"I almost forgot that these things are foul to smell. Thankfully, I purchased this in advance. It allows us to mask the smell of the surroundings while eating it, allowing us to move safely on areas with bad smell," Alfred whispered as he smiled at Elaina.
Elaina appreciates it and returned her attention to the Plague Bringer. Now that Elaina has gotten close to the Plague Bringer, she finally saw the blasted monster close enough.
The monster is like a dried up human being with deformed body parts. It wears some kind of tattered black clothes and it has a mask that looks like a bird. It kind of resembles the mask used by people back then when the black plague occurred in various kingdoms due to the pandemic of rats carrying fleas that are the main cause or the plague.
"How should we kill it?" Alfred asked as they got close enough. It is still sleeping but not for long. Once we go into its perimeter, it will wake up and it will escape," Alfred whispered, worried on what they should do.
"I have an idea. Get ready upon my signal."
Alfred nodded as Elaina throws the Vine trap seeds to the Plague Bringer and a single pit trap vine seed beneath the Plague Bringer.
Before the Plague Bringer can react, the seeds sprang to action, capturing the monster before it can move.
"Now!"
Alfred moved swiftly and closed the gap between the Plague Bringer and him. Once his distance has shorten, Alfred immediately slices through the Plague Bringer’s neck.
