A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 490: Calamity Averted
CHAPTER 490: CALAMITY AVERTED
Elaina was the first one to have her blade reach the Calamity Summoner, considering that her sword is much longer compared to Alfred’s and Arthur’s. But her slash did not wound the Calamity Summoner enough. It managed to cut off a bit of its skin, but not fatal enough.
Just as the Calamity Summoner gets far and recovers, Alfred follows up on the attack and makes the damage that Elaina did a lot deeper. The Calamity Summoner shrieks at the pain that the two successive attacks it received and is now in a panic. Prompting this, the Calamity Summoner decided in its one last attempt to defend itself was to summon every single insect and rat and block its way.
"I won’t let you do that! HRAAAAAH!"
Arthur jumps in the air, his sword raised up high. Adelaide, who was watching from a distance, quickly cast an attack buff to Arthur without him knowing and let her twin brother do the final blow.
Despite the countless insects that tried to block and interrupt him, Arthur grits his teeth hard to endure everything and unleashes the hidden power of his sword. Even with the Shield Seed and Healing Pod Seed, the insects are outdamaging him. But Arthur didn’t leave and interrupt his attack. He is determined to see it through.
"RAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!"
His sword glowing gold, he gathered all the accumulated charges he had on his sword and channeled them all in this one single attack. The sword he is holding is so heavy it feels like he is carrying tons of weight all at once, but he didn’t falter and drop his sword. He knows what to do.
"DIE!"
He swung his sword downwards, releasing the beam of energy into the critters that block his way, vaporizing every single one of them. However, despite vaporizing every single critter, the beam cannot be halted and passes through every single debris and obstacles that could potentially shield the monster. And it ended as an inevitable end for the target as the golden beam descends towards the fleeing Calamity Summoner.
The Calamity Summoner made one final shriek before it was obliterated by the golden beam, literally vaporizing the monster, carcass, and all parts that could be useful for verification that a Calamity Summoner spawned underneath the public’s eye.
Of course, the golden beam that Arthur released obliterated not only the monster but also the deeper part of the Catacombs. The surroundings shook for a bit before it calmed down. Arthur fell to his knees while gasping for air. Elaina quickly made a catch of him since he was the nearest person. Everyone also rushed towards Arthur, worried about his well-being.
"You alright there, buddy?" Alfred asked his son, who is slowly recovering from his breathing.
"Yeah. The wounds aren’t that deep, and I just needed a bit of rest or two. That attack I did take a lot of toll on me."
The Shield seed that helped fend off most of the probable damage that he would have endured succumbed to the damage it tanked through and silently disappeared. As for the Healing Pod Seed, the wounds that Arthur received slowly recover. Since the seed only pulses mild healing, Layla did the final healing process to make Arthur fully recover without much problem.
After Alfred confirmed the safety of his son, he went to the last place where the Calamity Summoner was floating before it was vaporized. There aren’t many signs that the Calamity Summoner was even there. Not even a single scrap of its ragged cloth that it wears was present. Everything vaporized, including all of the insects it summoned through.
"That was one hell of a beam for it to fully decimate everything to nothingness, leaving us no body to recover and no body to show and prove that a Calamity Summoner is present."
Arthur felt bad hearing this. "Is it a bad thing?"
Alfred shook his head. "Not really. It’s just that instead of getting any subjugation rewards and some compensation like free potions and money, since we can’t prove the presence of that monster now that every single part of it has been reduced to nothing. Other than that, there is no need to worry about it."
Learning about this, Arthur cursed himself, "Damn...that could have been additional savings for me. I should have just done it normally."
Adelaide smacked his brother when she heard that. "Idiot brother."
"OW! Why did you smack me, Ade?! Can’t you see I am injured?"
"I can see that, but you are making light of what happened earlier. It doesn’t matter if we have nothing to show them; what’s important is that everyone is safe here. Money can still be earned, but our lives cannot be earned back if we lose them in battle. Considering how reckless you are, I am glad that you didn’t suffer severe damage."
Elaina nodded. "Adelaide said it correctly. We might not get anything after that; we should be happy that everything is over. We are lucky we are still alive."
Alfred approached the group and nodded. "Indeed. Considering that the Calamity Summoner we fought before just evolved, the battle was considerably easier. A fully matured and trained Calamity Summoner will be a bane for us to fight with, considering how it can easily summon calamities one after another. We are lucky that it barely knew anything that is related to Calamities, aside from that mini tornadoes and the insects it summoned, it is still learning its newfound powers. With how quickly we culled it, I am glad we didn’t have to lose anyone in the process."
Judging from what Alfred said, it seems that if the Calamity Summoner were left alone for quite some time or they failed to vanquish it and it managed to escape, things would have spiraled out of control from there onwards, and things would have gotten worse than they could ever have imagined. If even the God of Medicine didn’t want the birth of that monster, then Alfred’s words are much heavier than expected.
With the monster dead, the group leaves the Catacombs. Alfred made sure the entrance to the Catacombs is sealed tight so that no more monsters will rise up again to cause trouble for Darcero Kingdom in the foreseeable future.

...
The next day, Elaina receives the daily newspaper, and the incident that they have done on the Catacombs was felt by everyone on the surface, specifically, the final blast beam that Arthur fired that killed off the Calamity Summoner.
A mild earthquake was felt by everyone, and a few buildings seemed to have suffered a bit of damage. And it seems that a few parts of the ground caved in as a result. Thankfully, the cave-in didn’t reveal the Catacombs, as it wasn’t the parts of the Catacombs that collapsed, but the ground itself. Elaina is a bit grateful now that the Calamity Summoner did not leave a single piece of its body behind as proof, as they would have to pay a hefty sum of money to repair the damage incurred from the battle as a result. And it is best to say that she didn’t want to pay it. Perhaps even the money that they will receive in the said subjugation would have been donated straight to the people who suffered a mild inconvenience and forget about the danger of the enemy overall.
Now that the main threat is over, Elaina looked at the other news and saw that most of the farmers are now agonizing over the loss of their crops after the events of the Black Locust Plague. Now, some of the farmers are thinking of filing for bankruptcy. Considering that the Darcero Kingdom is considered the Agricultural Kingdom due to the fertile lands and the number of farmers living in the kingdom, not only will this cause severe problems not just for Elaina but to the overall business that she’s running.
Just when she was agonizing over this newfound problem, Elaina soon remembered the task that she was given during the time when she just started as a farmer, and she was starting to receive the help of the God of Farming.
"God of Farming, I think I found the right scenario we needed to spread your seed to other farmers. And I think this should be a viable thing for us."
"[A viable way to spread the plants I recently made and spread it all over the world?]"
"Indeed. At first, having the regular fruits that I grow from these seeds were’t enough. Most of the citizens won’t think of growing them, and if there are a few, some would not fully know how these plants work. But considering the problem happening all over Darcero Kingdom after the events of the plague that happened, we could use that as an advantage for us to spread the seeds. Considering that these farmers will take everything at this point in desperation after their recent loss, everyone would surely bite. So, how about it?"
