CHAPTER 504: MIER’S FATHER

Lately, Mier has been happy with the setup that she and her friends have made recently. After getting the approval from her Mother, who kept saying no in the past, she began to properly train her magic with the others. She is clumsy at using it at first, but she was hoping to master it and be able to prove to her mother that she can do something without having to keep relying on her mother’s protection. Protection from something she has no idea or memory of.

Whenever she wanted to ask her Mother about the one that she is being protected from, she couldn’t receive a proper answer as her Mother would either talk small about it, or just stop talking about it altogether. And she was not permitted to use magic before unless it was necessary. If not for the fact that her Aunt Elaina decided to talk her mother out of this, she would not even be able to use magic openly.

Recently, she has been staying up late at night to practice magic. The Harvest Goddess usually tutors her to use magic properly from time to time, which is why she isn’t a beginner to magic, but one night, when Mier is about to retire and sleep for the night, she sees her mother sneak through the night. She didn’t notice Mier at all, which allowed the latter to quietly follow her. Thanks to one of her skills that allows her to turn invisible for a certain duration, this allowed her to easily sneak with her Mother without being detected by her.

Once her Mother left the stream, she sat at the little bench underneath the big tree situated near the stream’s little waters and seemed to be waiting for someone. As for Mier, she decided to position herself in a dark area near the stream where she can safely remove her invisibility spell yet keep herself hidden.

She waited there for quite some time while also watching her Mother do nothing but twirl her hair locks. Mier thought that her Mother was just taking the fresh night air and couldn’t sleep, so she was ready to cast her invisibility spell again and return to the stream when all of a sudden, a fish suddenly leaps from the stream into the land before it suddenly transformed into a human form.

This surprised Mier a lot. She has not seen anyone or anything transformed from a beast into a human in seconds. Shardu was different though, since even though he transforms, he only becomes big and looks vicious, but other than that, he isn’t that different from his previous form. But the person just now changed from one race to another; he basically changed species.

What makes things more shocking, what happened next made Mier’s jaw drop. The moment her Mother saw the man appear, she quickly went to his embrace and the two kissed under the dim light of the moon. Mier was so surprised by this as she never expected things from her Mother and this surprise visitor to suddenly happen.

Instead of returning, she decided to stick around longer and try to see what they would be doing next. She didn’t expect things like this from her Mother, which made her so curious about the identity of this man. She wanted to get close and hear what they were talking about, but if she decided to move, there was a huge chance she would be seen. As for her invisibility form, she can only cast it one more time since it consumes a lot of her mana to maintain. She didn’t want to risk getting caught on the way back to the stream, and so she remained there in her hiding spot, and as much as she wanted to hear them, she couldn’t do it, so she remained content with what was happening.

After quite some time, the two stood up once more, and the man pulled out a small box which her Mother accepted. Before he left, he kissed her again and then transformed into his fish form and jumped into the water, disappearing in the process. As for her Mother, she is smiling from ear to ear while also blushing so hard that Mier can see it even in the dim light.

Her Mother then returned to the stream shortly after that, and Mier quickly returned as well after her Mother went inside. She needed to ask her Aunt Elaina about this. There is no way she didn’t know about this matter.

"Ah, you mean Mr. Fohl? Yeah, I know he’s sneaking from time to time. Are you curious about him or something, Mier?" Elaina answered Mier’s question while also wondering what she meant.

"Is he my Mother’s lover? How come I never knew or heard about this man at all?" Mier was confused about who this man was in their lives.

Elaina frowned and her eyebrows creased, "Wait, don’t tell me your Mother hasn’t told you anything just yet."

"Tell me what?"

Realizing it, Elaina sighed and slapped her forehead in realization. "Ah, now I see."

"What is it, Aunt Elaina?"

Elaina shakes her head. "This isn’t something I have the right to tell you, dear. You should ask your Mother about it instead."

"Eh? Why?! Didn’t you know something? I asked you since I don’t want to ask Mother about it!"

"Yeah, no. As much as I wanted to tell you, if your Mother does not even tell you about it, then it isn’t my business to even tell this piece to you either. Please understand, little one."

However, Elaina decided to keep quiet this time around and left Mier more confused than ever before. She also decided to ask the Harvest Goddess about this matter. But just like Elaina, the Harvest Goddess shook her head.

"Yeah, no. I might be a bit nosy and like gossip, but I can’t just say things directly without even your Mother telling things for you. Perhaps you instead talk her out of this. And if she decided to dodge the question, reveal everything on the spot, I know Alessa, she is easy to let her talk things out, and don’t worry, she won’t scold you. Still, didn’t expect that she would be able to keep this information from you for so long like this."

As a result, as much as Mier wanted to ask about the information she got, the same recommendation action was given out to her as her only action.

"Ugh, is there no other way? I can only ask?"

However, she is more stubborn than ever. Instead of asking her Mother, she decided to do something that would allow her to know who this man was without even needing to ask an inquiry with her Mother. She will discover this secret all by herself. There is no need for her to ask her Mother about this. And so, she decided to formulate her plan.

First, she decided to make preparations. Her preparations are related to her invisibility magic. Since she can only cast it twice maximum and she can’t maintain it too long, she had to rely on mana regenerating potions like the mana potions that Adelaide and Layla use. Thankfully, Adelaide seems to understand what she was going to do; she gave her two bottles earlier, which means she can use her teleport more than she needed and can maintain invisibility a lot longer.

Next, she studied the surroundings of the meeting place where her mother and the man met. She made sure to find a good hiding place where she could stay undetected while also allowing herself to hear the conversation her mother and the man were having.

Although she planned to study the schedule, the man arrived and her mother sneaked out, it wasn’t a consistent pattern, so in the end, she ditched the idea altogether and decided that she will now go once her mother started to sneak again.

And so, after two weeks passed by, she finally got another chance. She took all her mana potion supplies with her and waited for her Mother to sneak out. Once her Mother left, she cast her invisibility spell and also left the stream. She quickly made her way to the hiding spot not too far from them and hid there, waiting for the man to arrive.

Like what she expected, the man reappeared again and like always, the two kissed. But this time around, she can now hear things between her mother and the man.

"I missed you Alessa. I can’t wait for the time we can finally stop this night visits and live as one family together with our daughter."

"Me too, Fohl. I know you are fighting alone there on your own, but I am praying everyday that you succeeded. I know it is painful for me to always get far from you every day, and only certain nights like this are the only time we can meet one another. I just hope everything is over so that I can tell Mier about you. She is growing,g and I can’t hide this secret forever that her Father is still alive. It’s hard for me to keep on denying or staying silent most of the time."

Mier was so flabbergasted by the revelations that she couldn’t help herself but reveal herself and confront the two.

"Mother, is he my father?!"

The sudden reunion of the three came so unexpectedly, even the two didn’t know how to respond.
