Chapter 465: Chapter 297, Revenge Begins!

Phoenix Pavilion.

Tang Fei was ushered in by the servant to find Phoenix and Sheng Xinhua enjoying afternoon tea in the pavilion of the courtyard.

Of course, for Sheng Xinhua, it was more like drinking afternoon alcohol.

She had already polished off more than half a bottle of red wine, her face flushed, and she looked even more delicate than the azaleas in the garden.

To avoid any suspicion, Phoenix always invited Sheng Xinhua to join her whenever she met with Tang Fei.

It seemed as though the presence of a third person made it difficult for certain things to happen, making everyone’s relationships appear all the more pure and innocent.

But, there were things that three people could also do…

As the old saying goes, “When three people walk together, I am there soaking wet.”

Take the good from it and follow that, the bad, and tune it.

Tang Fei himself didn’t dare to think too much about what the Emperor thought.

“Tang Fei, over here,” Phoenix called out with a wave and a smile upon seeing him.

“I see, I see…” Sheng Xinhua said irritably, “Keep it together, don’t let him think our Princess is desperate to get hitched. Look at this chest, these legs, this face… What kind of man couldn’t you find?”

“He’s a guest, after all,” Phoenix explained, saying, “I’m the hostess of Phoenix Pavilion, so naturally, I should be warm to the guests.”

“A guest? He’s practically the co-owner of Phoenix Pavilion by now, isn’t he? The only guest here is the alluring Mr. Sheng sitting in front of you.”

Phoenix then hugged Sheng Xinhua’s arm and playfully said, “You’re my family. What do men matter? They only slow down my sword-drawing speed.”

“He affects your speed of drawing a sword, you affect the frequency of his shooting. Fair enough.”

With a blushing face, Phoenix exploded, “Sheng Xinhua, you hooligan… How can you say such things?”

“If you can do it, why can’t I talk about it?”

Tang Fei entered the pavilion, looked at the two flushed women, and then at the red wine on the table before asking, “Started drinking in the afternoon?”

“Whenever you feel like drinking, that’s when you drink. Who says you must drink certain wines at certain times?” Sheng Xinhua retorted.

“That’s also true,” Tang Fei nodded and agreed, saying with a smile, “Where Mr. Sheng is with chopsticks, there must be wine.”

“There must be wine, even without chopsticks.”

“Then, I’ll join Mr. Sheng for a drink,” Tang Fei said, still smiling.

With Sheng Xinhua’s sharp wit, she certainly understood the role she played in all this.

But still, to be called to join every time, she was treated like a true friend.

Respect must be paid to a third wheel for their willingness to light up the place. What if they decided they didn’t want to anymore?

Tang Fei poured himself a glass of wine, but when he went to refill Phoenix’s glass, he found she didn’t have a wine glass at all.

Puzzled, Tang Fei wondered, why was her face so red without drinking wine?

“Aren’t you going to have a sip?” Tang Fei asked.

“I won’t drink,” said Phoenix, “I’ll stick to tea. I’ve still got things to do later.”

Tang Fei nodded and turned to Phoenix, asking, “Why the sudden call to have me come here? Is something the matter?”

“Can’t I call you over for no reason?” Phoenix retorted with the classic comeback of a girl.

After a pause, she smiled and said, “I heard your case was closed, so I thought to invite you over for tea and a chat… to take a break.”

“The case isn’t closed,” Tang Fei shook his head.

“Not closed?” Phoenix pondered, scrutinizing Tang Fei, “Is the top dissatisfied?”

“It’s such a big case. Just taking down Gongshu Wuyu and a deputy director of the design institute clearly doesn’t satisfy them,” he revealed.

“What exactly do they want to achieve?”

Tang Fei looked at Phoenix and said, “They want to hurt deeply, break things up, they intend to make the Lu Family suffer substantially.”

Being an Empire Princess, what “they” upstairs wanted was essentially the Royal Family’s wish.

Normally, such things shouldn’t be said in front of Phoenix, but Tang Fei knew that Phoenix would definitely consider things from his perspective.

Sure enough, Phoenix furrowed her brow deeply and said, “If that’s the case, then you are in danger.”

“Yeah,” Tang Fei nodded, “The current outcome is acceptable to the Lu Family. If the investigation continues deeper, the Lu Family will certainly fight back…”

Phoenix looked at Tang Fei and said, “It’s really tough for you, being caught between them as they fight tooth and nail. If you want, I could pull you out…”

Phoenix had invited Tang Fei over specifically to discuss this matter.

She knew what the Royal Family wanted and that the Lu Family would certainly not submit easily.

In this situation, Tang Fei’s safety was extremely precarious.

In times when family survival hung in the balance, the little relationship he had established with the Lu Family was practically worthless.

If it were someone else, at this point, they would just have to accept their fate.

But Tang Fei was her man, and she intended to help him break through the impasse, to pull him out of the mire.

To leave the fray with a clean slate, as time would tell, he could still have a bright future.

That was the power of protection, the charm of a powerful ally.

Tang Fei managed a bitter smile and explained, “Before I left home, I just had a talk with the director. He assigned this case to me, and I have to take it through to the end… and I fear it won’t be easy to leave it now.”

“I’ll speak to Yan Wenli,” Phoenix stated.

Tang Fei looked at Phoenix and said, “You must know, this isn’t just his decision alone.”

Phoenix fell silent.

After a while, she looked at Tang Fei and said, “I will talk to my father. Let him find someone else to take over this matter.”
