Abyss Sequence
Chapter 50 - 19: Hidden Truths
CHAPTER 50: CHAPTER 19: HIDDEN TRUTHS
On the next day, Yan Luo got up early as usual.
After having breakfast, Yan Luo started his training for the day.
But unlike usual, he seemed somewhat distracted today.
Before resolving the issue with Sasa, Yan Luo had no mood for abyss hunting.
By nine in the morning, Yan Luo still hadn’t contacted Sasa; she contacted him first.
"Good morning!"
Sasa’s bright and cheerful voice echoed in Yan Luo’s ears.
Yan Luo took a deep breath, "Good morning..."
He hadn’t figured out how to discuss the matter with Sasa when she clarified over the call: "I know what you want to say, come to my dorm to pick me up, this is not something suitable to discuss online."
"Alright!" Yan Luo agreed immediately.
He got up and went to the bathroom, took a shower in two minutes, then dressed and went out.
When he drove away from the apartment building, only four minutes had passed since he hung up the call.
Yan Luo arrived at Sasa’s dormitory as quickly as possible, and since Sasa hadn’t come out yet, he waited silently in the car.
After two more minutes, Sasa came out, her hair tied into two pigtails, accompanied by the girl who seemed hostile towards Yan Luo.
Sasa skillfully climbed onto the motorcycle’s back seat, put on the helmet, waved to Zhang Xiaofang, and said, "Xiaofang, I’m heading out."
Zhang Xiaofang waved back at Sasa with a smile, then her face changed, looking at Yan Luo with unfriendly eyes, warning him, "You need to take good care of Sasa. If anything happens to her, I surely won’t forgive you!"
Yan Luo glanced at Zhang Xiaofang without saying anything, then drove off.
After they left, Zhang Xiaofang was still shouting from behind, "Take care of Sasa, don’t let her get too tired, you know~"
After leaving the dorm building behind, Yan Luo couldn’t help but ask, "Is she your mom?"
Sasa laughed and replied, "No, she’s just more of a worrier. She seems to have a bit of maternal instinct when it comes to me."
"Lingyu said you treated her very well, but now I’m starting to doubt her assessment of you." Yan Luo’s words carried a hint of dissatisfaction.
This dissatisfaction wasn’t directed at Wang Lingyu; it was purely aimed at Sasa.
Sasa could naturally sense Yan Luo’s unspoken meaning, keeping a smile on her face, "But I’ve indeed treated Lingyu very well. Since she started school, I was in charge of welcoming her, and later we exchanged contact information so she could reach out to me whenever she had questions."
Yan Luo pursed his lips, remaining noncommittal.
"So, what’s next? Where are we going?"
Sasa asked, "Where do you usually train?"
Yan Luo replied, "At home."
"Then let’s go to your place." Sasa surprisingly suggested.
Yan Luo was so startled he almost hit the brakes.
"Go to my home?" Yan Luo was extremely surprised.
Sasa laughed, "Yes, that’s right, you heard correctly, let’s go to your place! I want to see your training process firsthand and conduct some experiments!"
At this moment, Yan Luo had a complex expression on his face.
However, after thinking for a moment, he turned the car around and took Sasa to his place.
On the way home, Yan Luo ran into some acquaintances, and they all noticed Sasa alongside him, showing warm smiles.
"Your sister came to visit you?"
That was what they said most often.
If he simply admitted, it wouldn’t cause any trouble, but Yan Luo didn’t like doing so, so he explained, "No, she’s someone I know, don’t be fooled by her short stature, she’s actually older than me."
This explanation instantly changed the look in people’s eyes as they viewed him.
Perhaps they thought he was a lolicon.
Following Yan Luo into the elevator, in the carriage, Sasa said to him, "You really are a strange person."
Clearly, he didn’t need to explain; without explaining, people’s perception of him wouldn’t change.
But Yan Luo insisted on explaining.
Yan Luo glanced at the digital display and casually said, "Same goes for you."
Yan Luo took Sasa back to the apartment, where the standby robot Keke immediately activated, coming over to them, asking what they’d like to drink.
Sasa, not treating herself as a guest at all, immediately said, "Get me a cup of hot milk, sweetened."
"Certainly, sweet hot milk," Keke’s display screen showed a smiley face and it headed to the kitchen.
Yan Luo went to his bedroom to change into sportswear, then came to the living room bench press rack, starting to load the barbell with weights.
Sasa sat on the couch, tilted her head watching Yan Luo’s actions, and asked, "Do you usually use this to train your body? No other equipment?"
Yan Luo shook his head, "The apartment isn’t very spacious, the barbell is the only equipment that takes up little space and has a challenging difficulty gradient."
"You’re doing it wrong," Sasa shook her head, "Magic Power enhances you selectively; when you’re absorbing Magic Power, wherever you train hardest, Magic Power will tend to enhance. It’s the same principle as conducting specialized training after consuming mutant creature meat."
Yan Luo was hearing this for the first time.
Seeing him somewhat confused, Sasa explained, "Mutant creature meat contains little Magic Power, the portion that can be absorbed by the human body is even less. Only through long-term consumption can one realize this. In today’s world, only the wealthy can afford to do this, and scholars studying this are made to sign contracts, and if they leak this, they have to pay a huge penalty."
Yan Luo was silent for a moment, then asked, "Telling me this isn’t going to cause you trouble?"
Sasa proudly laughed and swung her slender legs, "Of course not, because I deduced this myself; my mentor is a scholar researching this field. However, to avoid implicating him, I’ve never told anyone about this, and I hope you’ll do the same."
"Sure." Yan Luo agreed without hesitation.
Then he started considering Sasa’s suggestion.
If focusing on training specific projects allows the body to enhance corresponding areas when absorbing Magic Power, he should indeed spend money for this.
Yan Luo is the type who acts on thoughts immediately; while bench pressing, he was browsing Crimson No.2’s real estate sales center.
Hunters have to move out of the apartment provided by the guild; renting or buying, the apartment would be reclaimed by the guild, plus, Yan Luo felt renting wasn’t very secure, so he planned to just buy a property.
The Glazed Group seventh team negotiated with the buyer and raised the price of the tiger bone to six million, Yan Luo could get 60% of the profit, deducting taxes, he’d finally receive 3.2 million.
Adding the money he earned previously, the cash in Yan Luo’s pocket successfully broke ten million.
Who could have thought four months ago, he was a pauper with less than fifty thousand, and in just four months, he managed to multiply his assets by 200 times.
Though Yan Luo is an exception, it is enough to prove how lucrative the hunter’s profession is.
However, despite his fast money-making speed, he couldn’t compete with monopolistic industry companies.
Yan Luo set his eyes on a villa equipped with a gym, priced at eight million; if he really bought it, he’d lose almost all his wealth.
After a moment of reflection, he decided to buy it.
Yan Luo put the barbell back on the rack and sat up.
Seeing his actions, Sasa asked while sipping hot milk, "Did you buy it?"
With a surprised look, Yan Luo asked, "How did you know I bought a house?"
"From your previous actions, it was evident you are a stubborn and daring man," Sasa smiled, a ring of white milk still around her upper lip, making her look somewhat ridiculous, "Your pursuit of annihilating the Abyss exceeds other things. Your quest for power is also to obliterate the Abyss, so even though I may be dubious and untrustworthy to you, you would still follow what I said because, according to your judgment, my statement is correct and can help you gain the power to eliminate the Abyss."
She really nailed it...
Yan Luo fell silent again and then stood up.
"Keke, pack up, we’re preparing to move."
