Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Let’s Divorce
At that moment, another person rushed in from outside—it was Gu Cheng.
After Gu Cheng came in and saw his mother had fainted, he realized he was one step too late to keep things hidden for Gu Wei.@@novelbin@@
“Gu Wei, what are you standing there for? Let’s get our mom to the hospital,” Gu Cheng moved to carry Qiu Yurou.
Gu Wei turned his head to glance at Su Meixi, then at his fainted mother, and said to Su Meixi, “Ah Xi, I’ll explain everything to you later.”
However, Su Meixi only looked at him faintly.
Her gaze was incredibly unfamiliar.
...
…
Once Gu Wei and Gu Cheng had left, the house quieted down.
Su Meixi looked around the room, saw the noodles that Gu Wei hadn’t had time to eat on the dining table, and couldn’t help but laugh.
After laughing, tears also started to flow.
She sat down at the dining table, quietly ate the bowl of noodles, and then dumped the rest into the trash.
Then she went back to her room to pack her things.
She had arrived with a suitcase, a pile of books, and an electric bike.
She left with the same.
She asked for an hour off from work, called for delivery services, and took her things back to her old house.
Having lived too long in the spacious and bright house of the Gu family, now, returning to her old house, she realized not only was it small, but the lighting was also dim, and occasionally she could smell the cooking from other houses; many of the furnishings were outdated.
Before marriage, she had savings of tens of thousands, spent on a car for the wedding, and the borrowed money from Huabei wasn’t even fully paid yet.
Ridiculous.
In the end, all she got was a “not worthy.”
…
After packing, Su Meixi left the house.
Upon stepping outside, she saw Bi Yuanhang standing there.
She paused for a moment.
Bi Yuanhang explained, “After I got back to Feng City, I’ve been staying here. I was just about to leave this morning when I saw you return, so I thought to check if you needed any help?”
At that moment, Su Meixi’s tears finally broke free.
“Xiao Xi, what’s wrong with you?”
Su Meixi shook her head, “It’s nothing.”
“Xiao Xi…” Bi Yuanhang saw her distressed, wanted to embrace her, but Su Meixi shook her head, indicating it wasn’t necessary.
Bi Yuanhang dared not take further action, already satisfied that Su Meixi was willing to talk to him.
Su Meixi wiped her tears, then said, “I have to go to work.”
“Do you need a lift? I’m at the Second Hospital, it seems on the way.”
She waved her hand, “No need, I have a car.”
…
Su Meixi rode her electric bike to the hospital today.
Upon arrival, Li Pingping spotted her from a window.
Li Pingping waited until Su Meixi came up and began to mock her, “Wow, back from a trip to Guang City and still riding an electric bike?”
Su Meixi didn’t respond to her.
Li Pingping taunted, “Couldn’t be because you’re so busy with studying that you don’t go out much anymore, and now you’ve forgotten how to drive?”
Su Meixi turned to look at her, smiled and said, “You should study more too. Watch your mouth, don’t just eat anything or say anything.”
“Am I breaking the law just by saying something?” Li Pingping asked.
“Not breaking the law, just being spiteful,” Su Meixi replied.
Li Pingping looked puzzled at Su Meixi, wondering why she was so furious today.
…
At lunch in the cafeteria, the large TV was broadcasting news related to the Gu Group—the latest acquisition of a technology energy company, the appointment of new corporate leaders, and more.
She had often seen news about the Gu Group before but never knew it involved Gu Wei, and her.
Gu Wei was really good at pretending to be poor!
She felt once more the intense mockery and deceit.
Li Pingping happened to be sitting at the same table with Su Meixi, along with Sister Zhou and Xiao Du.
Li Pingping, watching TV, said, “I heard the two young masters of the Gu Group are still single, not sure who they will eventually marry?”
Sister Zhou chuckled, “Whoever it is, it surely won’t be us.”
Li Pingping countered, “You never know. Maybe one day the two young masters of the Gu family will be in trouble and just happen to be rescued by us. Out of gratitude, they might just decide to marry us.”
Xiao Du retorted, “Dream on. Not to mention their medical resources, even Sheng Kang Hospital belongs to their family. How would it even be your turn to save them? Besides, even if the young master really loved you, you wouldn’t be able to withstand societal pressure. Being a young madame involves helping the family prosper; do you even have the strength? Would the young madames in their circle or their family members approve of you?”
Li Pingping still wasn’t convinced, “Then what if I marry the second master? I heard the second master doesn’t handle affairs and lives a carefree life.”
Xiao Du continued to counter her, “If he doesn’t handle affairs, then marrying him means you’ll have to handle even more. I think you should focus on eating your meal instead of daydreaming.”
Rebuffed, Li Pingping turned her head and noticed Su Meixi wasn’t speaking, so she said, “Dr. Su has been quiet the whole time, aren’t you thinking of marrying into the Gu family?”
Su Meixi paused, then replied, “Not everyone is keen.”
Li Pingping rolled her eyes at her, “Don’t act so aloof. If the Gu family’s young master wanted to marry you, I bet you’d instantly dump your current boyfriend.”
…
By the time off work, Su Meixi saw there were over a dozen missed calls on her phone, all from Gu Wei.
She ignored them all.
There was also a message: Have you left work? I’m at the hospital entrance, can we talk?
Su Meixi didn’t reply.
After attending a month of training, and returning to write lots of materials and summary reports, she ended up writing them in the office.
She even admired herself, that at such a time, she could still concentrate on her paperwork.
After finishing her work summary, she glanced outside the window—it was already 9 p.m.
She rode her electric bike out, not seeing Gu Wei outside the hospital.
However, when she got back to her old house, she saw Gu Wei standing at the staircase entrance.
His figure was tall, and his shadow stretched long beneath the dim stairway light.
Su Meixi parked her bike, then got off.
Gu Wei came over.
“Ah Xi, can we talk?”
Su Meixi paused, then asked, “What do you want to talk about?”
“Ah Xi, I actually didn’t want to hide it from you. I was hoping for a chance to tell you about my family,” Gu Wei’s expression was very serious.
Su Meixi took a deep breath and then said through clenched teeth, “Please leave. I’m not interested in your family.”
Gu Wei instinctively grabbed her hand, “Family isn’t that important, what’s important is what we think.”
Thinking of his mother’s words, Su Meixi immediately pulled her hand away, “No, family is very important. Marriage is a matter between two families. I think your mom is right; I’m not worthy of you. We are not suitable to be together, Gu Wei, let’s get a divorce.”
“A divorce?” Gu Wei looked hurt, “Are you giving up just like that?”
“What else? Did you think I was going to kneel in front of your mother and ask for her acceptance? I can’t do that.”
