Aether Chronicles: Birth Of A Legend
Chapter 260: How’s The Pregnancy?
CHAPTER 260: HOW’S THE PREGNANCY?
Raegar glanced at his face, eyes wide as he retorted. ’’Yes, having the strongest mage as a wife isn’t bad unless she gets pissed off and wants to blow me away for flirting with a maid.’’
Alaric began laughing before rustling his hair. ’’She won’t do that, my boy. Your grandmother mentioned how the empress looked at you just like Yuki does, and that cat..’’
’’Daughter,’’ he coughed, causing his father to laugh.
’’Shut up, you little shit! It’s not my thought, Saki is a wonderful woman just like your mother,’’ the older man snapped, but soon the two of them started laughing even more.
’’Now you see why I love Yuki,’’ Raegar revealed. ’’She’s been with me since my birth, seen me grow up, and now looks at me like a man, not the young master she knew.’’
’’All that woman did was talk about you and the girls,’’ Alaric said, smiling. ’’She wanted to meet them and become friends as she knows you were a quiet child, who didn’t like talking to others your age.’’
Raegar laughed, remembering when his mother took him to all those noble parties and cringed. ’’Yes, but when you’re the grandson of the Lion of Dawnfire and the Witch of the West, people tend to kiss ass, and I hate that, but with my girls, they saw the real me, or the scarred me.’’
As he spoke, his mind flashed to the scars that marked his past. ’’Most people kept their distance or eyed me with suspicion, and yeah, it stung at first. But over time, I stopped caring. They,’’ he said, glancing at the tent. ’’Saw through my walls and chose to stay by my side.’’
’’They are brilliant girls,’’ Alaric admitted, a proud smile appeared on his face. ’’Selene reminds me of your mother when we first met. She was so feisty and loved to fight, but once Isabella was born, she mellowed out and became the mother you know.’’
Raegar chuckled. ’’Yes, she told me about those days, but then there’s her caring side, like Zahara, stubborn like Dominique, but has a nurturing side like Yuki and Alice. Then there’s her anger that reminds me of Drusilla, that Dark Fairy loves you passionately.’’
’’Yes, Dru is a lovely woman and I’m glad I rescued her,’’ he fondly admitted. ’’Ever since we bonded, all I feel from her is love, just like the others.’’
’’That’s good, my son,’’ Alaric responded. ’’That’s all you need in life, the love of a good woman, or in your case, women. But I understand what you mean thanks to your mother and Saki.’’
Following that, the father and son continued talking until his mother and Saki appeared. The white-haired woman spoke. ’’I knew I’d find you two here, she smiled, the alcohol at this time in the morning?’’
’’I haven’t drunk, my love,’’ his father jumped up, shocking him.
Raegar looked at his father, who slunk away thanks to his mother’s rage. He was about to speak, but Saki appeared and snatched the drink from his hand. His eyes widened as he went to grab it back. The catwoman vanished, only to materialize next to a narrowed-eyed Victoria.
’’Raegar Blackwood! Why are you still drinking? You’re seventeen! If this continues, you’ll be a drunk!’’ she ranted.
’’It barely touches me,’’ he waved her concerns away. ’’Only when I drink loads of the stuff do I get drunk, mother. My Aether helps me stay sober after getting used to it a year ago during my journey through that damned forest that old goat threw me into.’’
His mother looked livid and stepped closer, warning. ’’Stop drinking so much, or I’ll tell my new daughters.’’
’’Alright, I’ll calm down with it,’’ Raegar gave in, sighing. ’’Just don’t get them involved, the nagging would kill me.’’
Victoria beamed, then suddenly began hugging him tight. ’’Good! I’ve seen too many young men and women fall to such vices.’’
The older woman then kissed his forehead while his father laughed, but Raegar looked at him. ’’You shady fucker, you thought she was going to scold you and throw me under the bus!’’
He gave his father a shit eating grin as Saki’s blue eyes snapped toward her lover. ’’You should’ve stood by the young master, husband.’’
Victoria let Raegar go and turned toward the dark-haired man, who started to become nervous as his mother added, a knowing smirk crossing her face. ’’We should punish him, Saki, do you mind helping me?’’
When he heard this, he remembered his younger sibling and questioned. ’’How’s the pregnancy?’’
’’Still months away,’’ his mother answered, beaming. ’’I thought she was hurt during the fight, but your grandfather made sure a shield protected his new granddaughter.’’
’’Good,’’ Raegar replied. ’’Looks like I’ll get to meet her during winter break.’’
’’Will the girls be coming?’’ Saki inquired, a curious glint in her blue eyes.
He shrugged. ’’Not sure, they might want to go visit their families. I remember Zahara asking if I could travel to each of them to meet the parents and such.’’
Alaric nodded. ’’Would be good, they live all across Dawnfire and you could see the empire you’ll rule one day,’’ he chuckled.
Raegar shook his head. ’’No.’’
A surge of adrenaline jolted his senses as a portal tore open nearby, his gut twisting with dread. He surged forward, daggers materializing in his hands with a flash, their edges glinting as he collided against a towering Devil Knight. Sparks erupted as the fiend’s massive blade aimed for Saki, only to meet his ferocious counter, their clash reverberating through the air.
’’Run!’’ he shouted. ’’Get the Imperial Guards!’’
Raegar knew these monstrosities were forged to hunt Aether Mages, knowledge learned from the book Valentina gave him. The Knight’s aura hit him like a tidal wave, its power dwarfing his family, his girls, even himself. But fear was no match for his power. Leaping back, he hissed. ’’Fusion Overdrive!’’
Raw energy surged through his veins, his harem rallying to his side. Drusilla struck first, unleashing a wave of Dark Blasts that seared the air, each bolt slamming into the creature. Selene followed, her body a red blur as she delivered a thunderous kick, the impact booming like a cannon, sending the Devil staggering.
Seizing the moment, Raegar flashed forward, his Aether-infused dagger glowing as he drove it into the beast’s chest. The strike detonated in a blinding explosion, shaking the ground—but the battle wasn’t over. Three Death Knights materialized from the smoke, their eyes glowing with fury thanks to Dominique.
With a guttural roar, they descended on the Devil Knight in a berserk frenzy, blades flashing as they tore into their foe. Just then, Arthur the Fusion Knight appeared blocking a sneaky strike from another foe. It was aimed at Raegar chest but a fight broke out as his protector battled the stronger enemy.
Seeing this, he zoomed forward while Zahara’s magic flowed into him and red flames appeared, combining with his body only to hear Alice’s voice in his mind. ’Use my family’s secret my love. Fly free Raegar!’
Just then his body exploded with bright red flames as his Aether connected with hers and he attacked the first Devil Knight who didn’t stand a chance as his daggers curved through its armor, flesh and finaly bone. Blood painted the ground just as Drusilla spoke through thier bond.
’My boy! The fiends are attacking the empire!’ she warned. ’Your grandfather just spoke to me before he rushed off!’
He killed the Devil as Arthur finished off the stronger one only to come to a stop as alarms echoed across the landscape, nearby people screamed when more portals appeared across Dawnfire. He muttered in frustration. ’’Looks like summer break will be busy.’’
Following that, Raegar looked at his harem and asked, a pleading gleam in his eyes. ’’Can you girls stay here and protect my family, those fiends will keep attacking to get at me.’’
When the group heard this they nodded as Yuki and Zahara stepped forward to hug him. The blonde let the catwoman go first as she kissed him before warning. ’’Be careful and come back, you have to go to the palace later.’’
’’I know I’ll be back in the early afternoon,’’ he revealed. ’’I’ll just clear out any Devils in the surrounding area.’’
Yuki’s smile softened as a faint blush colored her cheeks. ’’Good. I don’t want you straying too far from us,’’ she said warmly.
Raegar’s heart swelled, and he pulled the pink-haired girl into a gentle hug. As she stepped back, he turned to Zahara, whose bright smile lit up her face. She leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to his lips, speaking. ’’Thank you for standing by us. No more rushing off, alright? Drusilla and Yuki have bonded with you, and we’ll make sure your parents are safe.’’
’’I’ll be back in a few hours,’’ he answered honestly. ’’I won’t rush off, just going to make sure the nearby people are safe and the Devils are killed, I hate these creatures.’’
