After Betrayal: Lightning Marriage to Mr. Enigmatic
Chapter 229: Survival
CHAPTER 229: CHAPTER 229: SURVIVAL
Isabella Weaver felt as if she had been asleep for a century.
In her dream, sometimes it was a scorching sea of fire, sometimes an icy deep ocean, and sometimes a man covered in blood. She drifted in pain, unable to wake up.
That day, she heard someone speaking in a strange dialect, pouring medicine into her mouth.
What kind of medicine is this!
It’s too bitter!
Her life was already bitter enough, why did she still have to drink such bitter medicine in her dreams!
She didn’t want to drink it!
However, her mouth was forced open, and the bitter medicine, which made her shiver, was poured in sip by sip, leaving her no choice but to swallow it.
The bitterness seeped into her soul, brutally waking her up.
"Cough cough cough!"
She choked and opened her eyes.
The person feeding her the medicine was overjoyed, "Awake, awake!"
Isabella understood that sentence.
"Wow#%*##*&..."
After that, she couldn’t understand a word.
The real voice, the real bitterness, the real salty sea air.
She actually survived?!
The woman holding her and feeding her was dark-skinned, with a clean and simple smile. Was she a fisherman?
"Was it you who saved me?"
Isabella was startled by her own voice; how did it become so hoarse!
"Yes, you must drink the medicine!"
The woman noticed that Isabella didn’t understand her earlier, so she switched to clumsy Mandarin, "You are sick! Fever!"
Isabella felt that she might not only have a fever but was also severely dehydrated.
Now that she was awake, she wasn’t as delicate. She drank the medicine in one go, asked for water, and felt her throat a bit more comfortable after drinking it.
She thanked her repeatedly, unable to express her gratitude.
The woman brought her fish porridge and fed her spoon by spoon.
It wasn’t that Isabella didn’t want to eat on her own, it was just her hands...
Her palms were so ulcerated and swollen that they no longer resembled their original shape. Not only her right hand, but even her previously uninjured left hand was covered in scars, swollen like pig’s trotters, causing excruciating pain with even the slightest movement.
If this continued, her hands would be ruined.
"Sister, could you please take me to the hospital?"
"There is no hospital here." The woman looked troubled.
Isabella was shocked: "Then how do you treat illnesses?"
"We have to take a big ship to the big city across the sea. Our family has a small boat, it can’t make the trip."
"Is this an island?"
"Yes!"
After chatting for a while, Isabella had a general understanding of where she was.
This was one of a group of small islands, home to about a hundred families who lived by fishing, in very tough conditions.
The place was so backward that no one used mobile phones, and there were no signal towers. Phones were useless here.
The woman, whose surname was Smith, mentioned that the big ship arrived every three days. It had just left yesterday, meaning Isabella would have to wait at least three days to catch a ship back to the mainland!
Sister Smith’s family was probably the best-off on the island. They had a radio, which she gave Isabella to pass the time, while the family went out to sea to fish again.
There was little signal on the island, only one station could be picked up, broadcasting various news from morning till night.
The explosion incident at the Royalton Club was evidently the top story, broadcast for a long time. But it didn’t mention Harry Hunter’s situation, making Isabella anxious and terrified. She didn’t know if Harry Hunter had survived.
Her headache was severe, and just as she was thinking of sleeping for a while, she suddenly heard a broadcast:
"...the new CEO of Star Region Group, Harry Hunter, and the daughter of Lewis Clan Group, Cherry Lewis, will hold their wedding at Brilliance Hotel next Saturday. Rumor has it this wealthy Young Master Hunter once staged a fake marriage to win over Miss Lewis. It seems his tactic worked, as he finally won the beauty’s heart!"
