CHAPTER 267: CHAPTER 267: THE TRUTH OF THAT YEAR

Bian Shu searched the entire house but couldn’t find him. Her hands trembling, she dialed his number and as she listened to the busy tone, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She rushed out of the door and plunged into the pouring rain.

The streets in the suburbs were dimly colored, and for no clear reason, Bian Shu felt a deep unease.

As she walked forward, with every step, it felt as though a dark abyss was luring her ahead.

Reason told her that it was too late, and she shouldn’t be charging around like a headless fly.

Yet her emotions drove her step by step forward, as if falling into an endless marsh, the more she struggled, the deeper she sank.

It was in the attic of an abandoned house that Bian Shu found Ji Anshen.

Standing at the base of the building, she hastily looked up; the ice-cold rain painfully hitting her face so much that she even forgot to blink. She saw Ji Anshen pressed against the railing, his body almost falling over.

In the dark night, there seemed to be a faint halo around him, causing a painful dazzle to her eyes. She didn’t know why Ji Anshen was here.

Just a few hours ago, he had agreed to accompany her back to the Bian Family, hadn’t he?

Bian Shu would never allow him to just die in front of her.

At that moment, unprepared to witness such a scene, her mind shattered. Ignoring everything, she rushed up the stairs.

The building was very tall, and as she ran up, she nearly fell several times.

Bian Shu felt a metallic taste spreading in her throat; she forcefully swallowed it down, her vision intermittently darkening, but she dared not pause for even a moment and crazily ran upstairs.

Years later, when Bian Shu found herself confined within the high walls of a sanatorium, watching the scenery outside wither and thrive season after season, she would hallucinate countless times, seeing Ji Anshen falling slowly in front of her like a thin sheet of paper.

When Bian Shu rushed onto the balcony, she only managed to see Ji Anshen’s figure disappear from her sight.

Her vision flooded with thick, sticky darkness, she screamed till her voice broke, utterly devastated, "Anshen!"

Those with black umbrellas then turned around to look at her.

Shock was evidently on their faces; clearly, they hadn’t expected someone to follow them here.

But Bian Shu couldn’t care less as she rushed to the railing, seeing the red blood traces dissolving in the torrential rain far below.

Bian Shu’s legs gave way; she stood stunned, unable to react.

In the face of extreme shock, not a single tear could fall.

Bian Shu felt as if a part of her body had left with Ji Anshen...

She wanted to go down to find him, to hold his possibly shattered body. As for the people in front of her, she wouldn’t let any of them go!

The next moment, she heard Song Ping’s voice.

Song Ping’s voice carried surprise and unease, softly saying, "Bian Shu, is that you..."

He walked up to her, holding an umbrella over her; seeing her silent and dazed, he helplessly said, "Do you know this person? He... he just jumped down by himself, we couldn’t stop him... Bian Shu, where have you been this past year? Do you know your uncle has been looking for you!"

Bian Shu felt the rain seep through her clothes, cold and piercing to the bone.

"Looking for me? Then you killed Ji Anshen?" Bian Shu reacted, slowly raising her eyes to look at Song Ping, his voice cold and desperate, full of pain, "Why didn’t you kill me too? Why? Can’t the Bian Family tolerate him?"

In Song Ping’s eyes, emotions were complex, and after a long while, he remained calm and said solemnly, "Bian Shu, since you think this matter is related to the Bian Family, then you should know which side you ought to be on! You are a member of the Bian Family! This man is just a nobody!"

Bian Shu snorted coldly, suddenly raised her hand, and furiously slapped Song Ping’s face, teeth clenched in hatred, "He’s not a nobody! He is my fiancé! Song Ping, I actually want to ask Bian Kai, whether this was your own doing, or was it his instigation?"

What happened afterward was nothing but a farce.

She sat in the rain, holding the corpse of Ji Anshen, gazing at his perpetually gentle face, now covered with a deathly cold pallor.

His body was so cold, Bian Shu’s hands were all blood, and that blood was also cold.

She stared at her own hands, her eyes which had been dry finally filled with tears, and afterwards, no matter what, she couldn’t stop them.

Song Ping ordered people to separate them, standing aside, he spoke in a detached and arrogant tone, "Bian Shu, since you have betrayed the Bian Family, from now on, there’s no need for you to return. I’ll have someone send you to a sanatorium, just stay there well!"

Thus, she was confined in a sanatorium, never having the chance to leave for many years.

Initially, she even went blind for a while. The doctors said she was grieving excessively, which ruined her eyes. Even after recovery, people often seemed indistinct to her, like flowers in the fog.

Bian Shu thought of many ways to leave the so-called caring sanatorium, but no matter what she tried, those people always found her and brought her back.

The sanatorium was run by the Li Family, but Song Ping belonged to the Bian Family. Bian Shu hated them all. When Bian Yue came to take her out of the sanatorium, she firmly resolved never to forgive those people!

All of them, she would not let go!

Yet... Bian Yue truly knew nothing, she wholeheartedly regarded herself as family, earnestly wishing to cure her.

Bian Shu didn’t know what to do, her feelings of love and hate mingled, and she truly felt that she was going insane.

Bian Shu woke up from a dream, and the rain outside the window had not stopped.

She looked down, seeing Bian Yue sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at her with a worried expression.

Bian Yue’s expression was tense, she sighed with relief and said, "Sister, you were talking in your sleep just now, I called you for a long time."

Bian Shu closed her eyes, then opened them again, snorting coldly, "Bian Yue, I just had a nightmare, do you want to know about it?"

Bian Yue’s mind was replaying the truth she heard from Song Ping during the day, conflicted about how to tell Bian Shu. Hearing Bian Shu say this, she smiled softly, whispering, "Yes, sister, you tell me, I’m listening."

The smile at the corners of Bian Shu’s lips froze, she looked at the dreary rain outside the window, and said faintly, "Isn’t Shen Jinci worried about you this late?"

"He’s waiting for me outside." Bian Yue whispered softly, "Sister, whatever you want to say, I’m listening."

"Bian Yue, I’m actually not crazy."

"I know."

Bian Shu’s eyes trembled, she sat up, looking at Bian Yue with a complicated expression, "Then do you know what kind of person your father is? For many years, I’ve had something I wanted to ask him."

"What?"

Bian Shu clenched the blanket in her hand, her eyes starting to redden, "I want to ask him, why did he have to kill Ji Anshen?"
