After Divorce, I Can Hear the Future
Chapter 668: Prejudice is a Mountain in People’s Hearts
Meigao Hotel, VIP lounge on the second floor of the casino.
Lu Liang sat at a luxurious poker table, with stacks of chips worth more than twenty million in front of him.
Unlike his flushed companions, he had a smile on his lips, as calm as if he were playing a cheerful game.
The biggest danger of gambling is that it engenders greed, distorting one’s outlook and values, but Lu Liang’s outlook and values had long become a wasteland.
Even if the chips in front of him multiplied tenfold or a hundredfold, it would be hard to stir his emotions significantly.
However, gambling isn’t all bad; at least Lu Liang enjoyed its uncertainty, along with the myriad of personalities at the table.
"Flush, we won again,"
Tian Xi smiled, her mood rising and falling with the chips in front of her, like a small-time gambler.
"Why not find a seat and play a few rounds, lose and it’s on me, win and it’s yours." Lu Liang smirked.
Tian Xi’s eyes lit up, clearly tempted, but she restrained herself, shaking her head vigorously: "Watching is just fine."
"Come on, beauty, just listen to Mr. Lu, do us a favor and take it easy on us long enough to water us."
The companion at the table smiled bitterly, having only a few scattered chips worth millions in front of him.
They were playing Three Card Poker, similar to the kind of poker often seen in Hong Kong movies, but with only three cards.
This type of game is a serious test of one’s temperament.
Even good luck and frequent large hands are of no use otherwise.
One also has to perform, convincing others that you have a small hand or that their hand beats yours, thereby keeping others in the game and accumulating the pot.
The temperament of a gambler is closely tied to the amount of funds they possess.
Lu Liang played the kind of game like a BUG, because even the He family couldn’t guarantee having more funds than he did personally.
As a result, even if Lu Liang got a small pair, his cards would look smaller than others’, he dared to continue betting until others got scared and backed off, stealing the win.
A few times might be forgiven, but the key is he always did so.
While some got upset and successfully caught him, Lu Liang could lose countless times, as long as he won once.
Others, on the other hand, might win seven or eight times, but lose just once and explode.
After an hour and a half, the situation at the table showed Lu Liang as the constant, with the gamblers coming and going. The five million chips he brought had multiplied fourfold, even fivefold.
"I don’t want to!" Tian Xi turned her head in a huffy manner.
The companion continued to urge: "Look, Mr. Lu has such great luck, but now he lacks people, what a waste of opportunity."
"If there’s no one, then we’re not playing, I’m going to sleep."
Lu Liang laughed, realizing the old chap wanted a comeback, but he had lost interest in playing any further.
He waved to the accompanying manager, collected two million’s worth of chips, and threw over three hundred thousand scattered chips on the table.
Lu Liang smiled and said: "Everyone worked hard all night, not easy, so why not split these amongst yourselves."
Upon his words, the croupiers and service staff looked at each other; they’ve seen generosity but never seen anything like this.
Others would tip chips worth hundreds or thousands, even in the VIP lounge the most wouldn’t exceed ten thousand.
But Lu Liang’s tips included three chips worth each million, making them hesitant to accept it.
They all looked to the casino manager simultaneously.
"Hurry and thank Mr. Lu."
The manager’s eyes showed some envy, and the croupier and service staff promptly bowed: "Mr. Lu, you’re generous, thank you, Mr. Lu."
Seeing that Lu Liang was about to leave, the manager spoke again: "Mr. Lu, the guests have arrived, would you care to play a little longer?"
"Not interested, leaving,"
Lu Liang shook his head slightly, extended his right arm, and Tian Xi casually linked hers with his, they planned to leave the gambling hall.
Suddenly, a strange sarcastic voice came from behind: "Winning and wanting to leave, human nature, understandable."
Upon hearing this, Lu Liang stopped in his tracks.
But before he could say anything, the manager beside him acted as if his tail had been stepped on, and coldly reprimanded: "Mr. Xu, what do you mean by that? Our Meigao is a formal casino, warmly welcomes everyone, anyone can come or leave as they wish.
If you can’t afford to play, you shouldn’t."
A small mainland entrepreneur boss trying to outshine Lu Liang was impossible, a comparison makes the disparity obvious.
He wasn’t afraid to offend the other party, because even if the fourth sister knew, she’d probably give him a thumbs up for doing the right thing.
The manager suddenly changed to a smile and said to Lu Liang humorously, "Mr. Lu, I’m sorry for the trouble, if you’re tired, you may go rest, I’ll handle this."
Lu Liang nodded slightly, not bothering to argue.
Just a frustrated gambler; it’s beneath him to argue, and if he gambled long enough, fate would take its course.
Lu Liang frequently took the lead in the financial markets, deeply aware that in any gambling game unless one is the Market Maker, winning is just a process, losing is the result.
The two exited the casino, went to the suite on the top floor, called the front desk, and ordered some midnight snacks.
Tian Xi, eyes narrowed with a smile, held her chin in her hands, acting lovestruck: "Liang, has anyone ever said you’re handsome?"
Started with power, fell for talent, stayed for good looks; in her eyes, Lu Liang’s every move reeked of charm.
"If I weren’t handsome, how would you be hooked?"
Lu Liang’s lips curled upward, he happily accepted the compliment and pinched her collagen-filled cheek.
"So vain." Tian Xi snorted softly, but then found herself lifted off the ground, making her scream.
"A day and night of rest should be about enough."
"Not yet, I want to rest another night."
"I’ll just hang out, won’t go in."
"Liar~"
No marriage rituals needed, straight to the chamber.
Lu Liang, like a diligent master, started imparting his lifelong knowledge, from kissing techniques onwards.
It’s like a tradition: old men enjoy young women, then young women grow up and start enjoying young men.
Until both were exhausted, they slept in each other’s arms.
Early next morning, at Xiangjiang International Airport.
Wilson was tired, talking on the phone as he walked out of the airport.
Flying along the Pacific Ocean, after thirteen hours he finally arrived in Xiangjiang, took another one and a half hour ride to the Shangri-La Hotel on Financial Street.
"Lu Liang isn’t here? Where did he go?"
Wilson frowned, questioning coldly the JPMorgan Xiangjiang Office head.
He came to discuss cooperation; the one seeking goodwill should have the goodwill attitude, at least not trouble Lu Liang.
Finding Lu Liang’s location and creating a chance meeting was the best strategy, at least he showed the right attitude.
After all, there’s an ancient saying, ’extending your hand won’t hit a smiling face,’ by doing so, Lu Liang would conversate a bit with him anyway.
As long as he could obtain the time for a conversation, Wilson had confidence in persuading Lu Liang to provide aid, because he brought terms Lu Liang couldn’t refuse.
"Mr. Lu was clearly staying at the Shangri-La last night, but now where he’s headed, perhaps only Li Zhikai knows." The head said with a bitter smile.
"Do you have Mr. Li’s contact?"
"Yes, yes." the counterpart quickly answered.
When Wilson found out, he immediately called: "Mr. Li, hello, I’m Cameron Wilson from JPMorgan Chase’s investment department, do you know where Mr. Lu is?"
Li Zhikai was taken aback for a moment and after some contemplation said: "I do know, but I need to ask Lu Liang for his thoughts first."
Wilson paused, then pleaded: "Hope you don’t mention my name, ideally you say it’s a friend from Wall Street coming from far away. I want to surprise him."
"Alright, I’ll try."
After the call with Wilson, Li Zhikai didn’t immediately contact Lu Liang, instead found his father.
"Cameron Wilson?" Superman Li squinted, his cloudy eyes flashing with brilliance beyond his age.
"There’s an extraordinary figure in the Mainland." Though he wasn’t directly involved, he instantly figured it all out.
Superman Li exclaimed, amazed: "Lu Liang came to Xiangjiang just to wait for Cameron, and visiting us yesterday was to let Cameron know he’s in Xiangjiang."
Li Zhikai asked puzzled: "If he’s waiting for someone, then why suddenly head to Macau last night?"
"Obviously, putting up a front." Superman Li replied.
"But it’s JPMorgan Chase, a century-old international financial consortium, what qualifications does Lu Liang have?" Li Zhikai asked again.
"Thinking Lu Liang is unqualified is your subjective opinion, it doesn’t mean others view him the same way."
Superman Li hesitated and sighed helplessly: "Do as Cameron says, and try your best to maintain good relations with Lu Liang in the future."
Lu Liang’s flaw was being a native-born national, leading people to instinctively underestimate his capabilities.
Had he been in a different skin, taken a Western name, his influence could have multiplied further.
Prejudices form mountains in hearts.
Even having lived nearly a century, he’s not exempt from traditions.
