CHAPTER 154: CHAPTER 154: MEMORIES (54)
During the following time, Florence Fuller didn’t have any time for romance with him and used their relationship as an excuse to transfer to work under someone else.
Work was her priority, and she put in extra effort. When Ethan Harper wanted to get intimate, Florence would quickly brush him off with a couple of kisses.
If Ethan Harper didn’t have so much free time, picking her up from work every day and cooking dinner, he really would become quite the domestic man.
"Of course, we’ll be back," Florence Fuller cupped his face. "We’re returning to the Starlight Residence tomorrow; we’ll have more time then."
Ethan Harper sighed and released her.
Florence Fuller happily said, "I’m going to find Aunt Monrose."
As she opened the door, Eleanor Lane stood at the entrance.
Florence Fuller paused. "Huh?"
Eleanor Lane smiled. "I’m here to see you. Do you have time?"
To see her?
Florence Fuller nodded. "I do."
Ethan Harper left, leaving the study for the two of them.
Florence Fuller was quite surprised that Eleanor Lane wanted to see her. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing major," Eleanor Lane smiled. "I heard from the lady that you’re with Young Master Harper?"
Florence Fuller nodded.
"That’s great," Eleanor Lane said. "You two are a good match."
Florence Fuller smiled gently. "Thank you."
"After a few years, you’ve become more beautiful and your demeanor is quite similar to the lady’s."
"You are also very beautiful. I’ve heard that the company you work for is impressive as well."
"It’s all thanks to the lady’s help," Eleanor Lane lowered her head. "Without her, I wouldn’t be where I am today."
Florence Fuller nodded. "Aunt Monrose really is great."
Eleanor Lane smiled. "It shouldn’t be a surprise that you’re with Young Master Harper."
"Why?"
"Before I went abroad, I confessed to Young Master Harper."
Florence Fuller recalled stumbling upon that moment.
"He rejected me."
Florence Fuller thought for a moment. "I happened to see it that night by accident."
Eleanor Lane was a bit surprised. "You knew."
"Not really. I didn’t listen in any further."
She couldn’t recall the specifics anymore.
"At that time, I was young and went to him with courage spurred by a few casual words and his tutoring. I anticipated he would reject me, but I still wanted to try, even though the result was disheartening. I thought it was because of the gap in status between us," Eleanor Lane sighed. "I thought I could change for him, but he said I shouldn’t change for his sake. But such a handsome and courteous man is rare; the first time I saw him, I was drawn to him."
"Back then, I thought he rejected me solely because of you—maybe because you are more attractive or have a better family background. Later, I found out it wasn’t quite like that. You have your difficulties too, yet he still chose you."
Florence Fuller quietly listened and then said, "Indeed, a man like Ethan Harper can make a woman’s heart flutter. The first time I saw him, I was attracted too. If I liked him and was leaving here, I would confess to him as well. But if being together means changing..."
Florence Fuller shook her head. "I won’t change for him. In fact, the reason why I like him more now is that he’s helping me change into who I want to be."
Eleanor Lane didn’t expect someone so young to have such strong opinions. "What do you want to change?"
"Myself, but definitely not for Ethan Harper."
She aimed to break away from the Fuller Family.
Eleanor Lane seemed pensive. "You don’t care that I liked him and confessed to him?"
Florence Fuller raised an eyebrow. "Can I control other people’s thoughts? If people are attracted to him, it’s his charm. I’m not bad either; I had many admirers in school, you know."
The misunderstanding about being an illegitimate child was resolved, and people confessed to her even after she got together with Ethan Harper. She declined by saying she had a boyfriend, but most people didn’t believe her.
Because they saw her always being alone at school.
At that moment, Eleanor Lane realized that Florence Fuller was not to be underestimated. Despite her young age, she was very insightful.
Even when with Ethan Harper, she hadn’t abandoned her own goals.
She wasn’t bound by love.
She focused more on her own affairs.
"Besides, you didn’t do anything inappropriate," Florence Fuller looked at her. "Don’t overthink."
Eleanor Lane nodded.
The two chatted for a while more, and when Sister Dawson came looking for Eleanor Lane, they parted ways.
Florence Fuller went to find Abigail Monrose.
Abigail Monrose seemed to know they had been chatting in the study, usually knowing that these two weren’t close. Even after not seeing each other for years, and now they were chatting.
Abigail Monrose could guess. "Were you talking about that boy Ethan?"
"Yes, but not entirely," Florence Fuller said. "We talked about you too."
Abigail Monrose was surprised. "Me?"
"Yes." Florence Fuller looked at her. "She said she feels very grateful to you. Without you, she wouldn’t be who she is today."
"That’s because she worked hard enough," Abigail Monrose said. "You’re impressive too, already earning at such a young age."
Florence Fuller chuckled, knowing Abigail Monrose was worried. "Don’t worry, Aunt Monrose. We talked peacefully, no arguments."
Abigail Monrose nodded and patted her hand.
The next day.
After breakfast, Florence Fuller packed her things at the Starlight Residence, getting ready to leave.
Sister Dawson came in from outside. "Ma’am?"
"Abigail is in the studio, what’s up?" she asked.
Sister Dawson approached Florence Fuller. "Miss Fuller, your sister is here again."
Again?
Florence Fuller said, "Huh?"
"To be honest, she’s pretty frequent with her visits and timely too, so many times now that you’ve met her this time too."
"What is she seeing Aunt Monrose for?"
"With a painting in hand, she says she wants to learn from the lady. The lady has turned her down many times, but she doesn’t seem to care and keeps coming back."
Florence Fuller stood up. "I’ll go out and see."
Before she could step out, Clara Fuller appeared at the doorway.
Florence Fuller raised an eyebrow. "You’re quite comfortable coming here, aren’t you?"
Clara Fuller didn’t expect her to be there and her expression changed. "You, what are you doing here?"
Wasn’t someone at school saying she went to America for an internship?
Back so soon.
"Can’t I be here?" Florence Fuller looked at her, a smile gracing her lips.
Clara Fuller looked at her expression and felt uneasy. The last time she got into a fight with Florence Fuller, she was bedridden in the hospital for over a month. The pain from that time was vivid, and she felt that Florence Fuller was a madwoman.
She never expected Florence Fuller would lay such a heavy hand on her.
"I’m curious, why do you visit the Monrose Family so much?"
