After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire’s Child
Chapter 330 - Capítulo 330: 322
Capítulo 330: Chapter 322
The color on Evan Palmer’s face faded instantly, this sentence like a heavy blow shattered the beautiful dream he had carefully constructed for thirty years.
His lips twitched as he tried to steady himself, adjusting his crooked tie.
“If you won’t think about yourself, at least consider the children and the company.
Now that Carlos is gone, the entire group is in chaos. And Maria…”
He turned to his daughter, his voice choking, “She just lost her brother, do you have the heart to let her lose her father too?”
“Mom, don’t worry about me.”
Maria Carter’s nose was red, stubbornly turning her face away.
Her slender fingers tightly clutched the hem of her clothes, her knuckles turning white. Just the thought of herself and Amelia Willow being half-sisters made her stomach churn with nausea.
“You!”
Evan Palmer suddenly flew into a rage, his finger trembling as he pointed at his daughter,
“Ungrateful child! I’ve cared for you all these years for nothing!”
“Smack!”
A crisp slap echoed down the corridor.
Mrs. Carter’s palm landed heavily on Evan Palmer’s face, five bright red finger marks immediately appeared.
She was trembling all over, her eyes burning with thirty years of pent up anger, “You have no right to discipline my daughter!”
Evan Palmer covered his face, stepping back in disbelief.
He had never seen his gentle wife with such a terrifying expression.
“I’ll sign the divorce papers as soon as possible.” Mrs. Carter took a deep breath, her voice cold as ice, “The lawyer will contact you to handle the follow-up.”
“No way!” Evan Palmer suddenly yelled hysterically, his expensive suit crumpling into a mess, “Half of Carter Clan belongs to me! I’ll never agree to the divorce!”
“You’re wrong.”
Emily Parker, supported by Evelyn Hanson, stepped forward slowly, her pale face showing resolve,
“Mother has already done the asset planning, along with the Old Master’s will…” she gently caressed her pregnant belly, “All of Carlos’s shares will be inherited by his child. And you won’t get a penny.”
Evan Palmer’s expression twisted instantly, with a vicious light flashing in his eyes,
“It’s you! It’s you, wretched woman, who ruined my plan!”
He suddenly lunged at Emily Parker like a mad dog, his fists swinging directly towards her swollen abdomen.
In a split second, Emily Parker deftly grabbed his wrist and twisted it with force.
With a crisp “crack,” Evan Palmer let out a pig-like scream, his entire arm hanging down at a bizarre angle.
“Ah! My hand!”
Mrs. Carter coldly watched her husband rolling on the ground, signaling the bodyguards: “Drag him out.”
“Emily! Don’t be smug!”
Even as Evan Palmer was dragged away, he continued to howl, his voice echoing down the corridor,
“You have no idea who you’ve offended! Just wait and see!
Everything in Carter Clan can’t possibly belong to an outsider like you.”
Evan Palmer’s curses gradually faded into the distance, and the corridor finally returned to calm.
Emily Parker straightened her back, reaching out to tidy Mrs. Carter’s loose hair.
She had a premonition that the real battle was just beginning.
Evan Palmer’s farce seemed to have ended, but for Emily Parker, the real pain was just starting.
As the corridor returned to silence, Emily Parker’s tense nerve finally relaxed.
She suddenly thought of Carlos— that man… who would never return.
A sharp pain suddenly pierced through her heart, and Emily Parker’s body shook violently, her vision turning black.
She instinctively supported herself against the wall, feeling her legs as heavy as lead.
“Emily!”
Several cries of alarm sounded simultaneously.
Evelyn Hanson was the first to rush forward to support her staggering body, Mrs. Carter and Maria Carter hurriedly gathered around.
Emily Parker’s pale face was devoid of color, her lips trembling but unable to speak.
“Quickly, sit down!”
Senior Sister Long efficiently commanded while quickly checking her pulse, “It’s transient insufficient blood flow caused by intense emotional fluctuations.”
Mrs. Carter tightly grasped Emily Parker’s cold hand, only realizing then that her slender fingers had been trembling slightly.
This strong woman, who had remained calm in the face of danger, and had not backed down against Evan Palmer, was at this moment as fragile as a leaf falling in the wind.
“Sister-in-law…” Maria Carter choked, offering warm water, but saw Emily Parker’s tears silently sliding down, dripping onto her folded hands.
Emily Parker did not cry aloud, merely shed tears quietly.
That pain was not the loud wail of heart-wrenching agony, but a long and intricate torment— like someone was digging at her heart with a dull knife, little by little.
Dusk gradually enveloped the city. Somewhere far away, the television still looped coverage of Carlos’ helicopter crash.
Emily Parker gazed at the last remnants of sunlight on the horizon, in a trance, she once again saw Carlos’ gentle smile.
“Ah Carlos…”
She called gently in her heart, her fingers unconsciously touching her swollen abdomen, “I will protect… our child…”
Evelyn Hanson turned her reddened eyes away, Mrs. Carter gently embraced her daughter-in-law. The women just nestled together like that…
Evan Palmer staggered out of the hospital entrance, his expensive suit crumpled like a rag, meticulously styled hair now in disarray. His face still bore the bright red slap mark, he looked as pathetic as a homeless dog.
The phone suddenly rang, Grace Willow’s tearful voice came from the receiver, “Evan, Adam has been arrested? A bunch of police just came to the house, what the hell is going on?” The sound of rummaging came from the other end of the line, “They took away all the computers, said Adam is suspected of murder…”
“Stop crying!” Evan Palmer abruptly interrupted, his voice hoarse, “I’ll think of something!” He said, hanging up directly.
As he was about to shove the phone back into his pocket, the ring sounded again – it was a strange number.
“Hello?” He answered with a nasty tone.
“Evan…President Palmer?” A timid female voice with distinct sobs came from the other end, “I’m Rainny White…I just saw the news…Carlos, is he really…dead?”
Evan Palmer frowned tightly. Rainny White, Carter Clan’s former secretary, why is she calling now?
“Isn’t the news broadcasting it?” His tone was cold, “If there’s nothing else—”
Rainny White had been pregnant for several months, originally immersed in the dream of soon becoming a wealthy Young Lady with a baby, but today’s news of the helicopter crash shattered it all.
She had no connection to Finn Carter’s phone nor dared to contact Emily Parker, the only person she could think of was Evan Palmer, President Palmer.
He was Carlos’ father, appearing gentle and reasonable on normal days.
The child in her belly was, and should enjoy the treatment of inheriting Carter Clan.
So, she dialed the phone.
“President Palmer! I beg you to help me!” Rainny White suddenly broke down and cried aloud, “I…I’m pregnant…it’s Carlos’ baby!”
Evan Palmer’s hand froze as he was about to hang up, his pupils constricting sharply: “What did you say?” His voice suddenly raised, attracting the attention of passersby, “Say it again! You’re pregnant with Carlos’ child?”
The plane trees at the hospital’s entrance rustled as a dry leaf fell on Evan Palmer’s shoulder. He clenched the phone tightly, a crazy plan gradually taking shape in his mind — perhaps, he hadn’t completely lost this game yet.
