After Prison, She Shocks the World
Chapter 203 I’m Not Going to Indulge Her Anymore
CHAPTER 203: CHAPTER 203 I’M NOT GOING TO INDULGE HER ANYMORE
Su Jiang did not deny it.
"I’ve been dissatisfied with many things you’ve done. Out of filial piety, I didn’t point them out before. Over the years, not only have you not changed your ways, but you’ve also become more outrageous with age. I think there’s no need for me to continue indulging you."
Mrs. Su trembled with rage. "Well done! If I had known you would turn out to be such an ungrateful wretch, I should have strangled you from the start."
"Your parents probably thought the same," Su Jiang said calmly.
Su Jiang couldn’t help but glance at his older brother again, realizing that his usually unassuming brother also possessed a sharp tongue.
Mrs. Su clutched her chest, overwhelmed, as if she might faint at any moment.
"Su He, are you just going to watch your older brother bully me?"
Su He was indifferent. "You made it clear to me before that I wouldn’t have to be involved in your old-age care, even if it killed you. So why are you looking at me now?"
"You..." Mrs. Su, trembling, pointed at them both. "I can’t believe I raised three ungrateful wretches."
"Don’t blame everyone else for your problems; you should recognize your own faults. If you hadn’t driven Fu Ya away, Su Chu might still be alive. His constitution was just poor; it wasn’t an incurable disease. At that time, Doctor Jiang was still traveling and practicing medicine and had promised to examine Su Chu. However, you banished Fu Ya before Doctor Jiang could arrive and said many things that wounded Su Chu, causing him to lose all will to live, and ultimately die filled with resentment.
"But what did you do? You blamed Fu Ya for Su Chu’s death and never admitted your own mistakes.
"What did you say when my daughter disappeared? ’The Su Family owes the Qin Family, and it’s enough for a lowly girl to pay back the debt; whether she lives or dies, it’s fate.’ Every time she was mentioned, you threatened suicide. In the end, she was the one who saved you.
"You’ve been willful and headstrong all your life, thinking that others should accommodate you. When you were young, you said it was hard to raise us and demanded our filial piety.
"As you aged, you demanded even more from us. If not, you threatened to die.
"All along, we have accommodated you. And what about you? To put it objectively, you’re just a selfish old woman who never considers others’ feelings!"
Su Jiang’s gaze was very calm.
His tone was exceptionally calm as well. It was as if he had rehearsed these words in his mind thousands of times. Each word was spoken with utmost clarity, devoid of any emotional inflection.
Su He silently gave his older brother a thumbs up in his mind. He’d thought he himself was the unconventional and rebellious one, but his older brother was the truly ruthless one. Those words could directly infuriate Mrs. Su to death.
Sure enough, Mrs. Su trembled all over with anger. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.
Su Jiang calmly instructed the butler to call the family doctor. Afterward, he sat indifferently in the living room, staring at the falling snow in the courtyard.
The snowy scenery in Sully was beautiful. To be precise, all four seasons in Sully were beautiful.
But because of the people here, he was growing to dislike Sully more and more. He had long since been worn down to impassiveness.
He had once done his utmost, behind Mrs. Su’s back, to search for his lost daughter. Repeated setbacks and the complete lack of news had driven him to despair.
He worked hard during the day, maneuvering in the business world. At night, he cared for his wife and children and contended with his mother. The little time he had was spent secretly searching for his child.
He did not feel it was hard. She was his child, and he had the responsibility to take good care of her. It was his duty to find her.
But even the deepest love faded with each passing day without news. By the end, he merely had his subordinates engage in charitable activities, having already abandoned all hope.
It was Junhui who reignited his expectations.
Over the years, he intentionally and unintentionally had people watch over Fu Ya, thinking of taking care of her for Su Chu. The only person Su Chu cared about in this world was Fu Ya. For him, everyone else was merely a source of torment.
He had heard little Fu Bing calling Su Chu "Dad." He hadn’t thought much of it at the time. Judging by Fu Ya’s past and the child’s age, he’d inferred that the child was Gu Yazheng’s. It couldn’t be Su Chu’s.
It wasn’t until he found out that all his daughter’s belongings were missing that he suddenly realized the truth.
Su He stood for quite a while. My older brother might actually stare out that window like a stone sculpture, with no intention of paying me any mind, he realized.
Su He watched with an indifferent expression as the family doctor entered the room, then said, "What are you planning to do? Drive Mom to her death by anger?"
"I’m not going to indulge her anymore," Su Jiang sighed deeply. "Su He, I believe I have done right by many people in my life; the only exception is my daughter. I clearly had the ability to provide her the best life, to let her grow up like a little princess. But what has she actually gone through?"
Su He asked, "Do you, like Junhui, also believe that Fu Bing is that child?"
"She is the most likely."
"Indeed, there’s a high probability she’s your daughter. But before anything is certain, you’d better understand the root of your current actions. Don’t drive your own mother to her death, only to find out Fu Bing isn’t your child and then shift the blame for your mother’s death onto her."
"I won’t."
Su He scoffed, utterly disbelieving his words. Shifting blame is always the easiest path; no one wants to shoulder such a heavy burden themselves.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I’m saying Fu Bing’s value extends beyond being your daughter. Without a concrete plan, don’t disturb her. After all, we might all get sick in the future, and she’s an excellent doctor who could save our lives."
Su Jiang nodded silently, looking at Mrs. Su’s room, and remained silent. Su He also shut his mouth.
After a long while, Su Jiang suddenly said, "Your attitude tonight puzzles me. What are your motives? Fu Bing must possess some other value for you to behave so differently from usual."
"As expected of my older brother, with decades in the business world," Su He said, looking up at the night sky overhead.
At Sully, stars could be seen. In the tranquil night sky, there was no moonlight, but the stars were clearly visible.
"From the moment I knew she was connected to Wu Shipyard, I had a bold conjecture."
Su Jiang waited for him to continue.
"Han Hu was saved by her, and I want to know where Han Hu is. If possible, I plan to marry her in the future. And marrying Han Hu, the biggest obstacle would be the person lying in that room. If she doesn’t learn to behave, then she’ll have to be made unable to voice any opinions, just a quiet mascot."
Su He’s gaze was indifferent, as if he were not talking about his own mother.
"Given the complications between you and Han Hu, I don’t see any necessity for you two to be together. Where does that put your three children? Have you considered whether Han Hu would even accept you?"
Su Jiang’s string of questions did not faze Su He. Instead, an increasingly strong sense of anticipation flickered in his eyes.
"One only has a few decades in life to be truly free; why overthink so much? I’ll do whatever makes me happy. If there are obstacles, I’ll just overcome them."
"Can’t you think about others for a change?" Su Jiang’s tone held a hint of anger.
"You’ve always considered others’ feelings, and what did you get? Other than a bellyful of frustration, what else have you gained? For a few useless words of praise, you’ve stayed devoted to a bedridden woman for twenty years, rigidly suppressing any attraction you felt for other women. Living like you is utterly dull."
