After Prison, She Shocks the World
Chapter 236 Su Qinnuan Meets Fu Bing
CHAPTER 236: CHAPTER 236 SU QINNUAN MEETS FU BING
Han Liying shook her head. "If I knew where my daughter was, how could I bear to let her wander outside? Mom, your health hasn’t recovered. I advise you to take good care of yourself and let us handle the rest. If Su Qinnuan is really my daughter, it would be a joyous occasion for everyone. If not, we have no reason to disturb her work and life."
Han Liying’s words silenced the men of the Su family.
Old Madam Su said, "I’ve already had someone contact Su Qinnuan. You arrange for a DNA testing agency. If it’s true, I can die in peace. That way, I can also face your father when I see him.
"I might be stubborn at times, but I am still your mother, and the grandmother of your children. If the family can be whole and complete, why would I want to disrupt that?"
Old Madam Su waved her hand wearily. "You arrange the rest. I won’t meddle, lest I be accused of interfering again."
Having spoken, she walked away unsteadily, supported by her cane.
Su He, with an expression that showed he was enjoying the drama, asked, "Big brother, the gauntlet has been thrown. Do you accept the challenge?"
They all knew in their hearts that Su Qinnuan couldn’t possibly be a child of the Su family. The fact that the old lady was so confident in letting them investigate on their own meant she was fully prepared.
Su Jiang sometimes found Su He’s cleverness quite irritating, especially since Su He never played by the rules.
Su Junxian and Su Junhui instantly understood their second uncle’s unspoken words. Was Su Qinnuan someone Grandma had arranged? How long had she been preparing this?
Su Jiang said, "Su Yun, ask Miss Su to come to my office tomorrow."
After a moment’s thought, Han Liying said, "I’ll go meet her. You all shouldn’t disturb her yet."
Su Jiang always respected Han Liying, both in public and private. When Han Liying spoke, he would always comply.
"You want to see her?"
"Even if it’s ultimately proven that she’s not our daughter, I still want to meet her."
"Alright."
Su Junxian and Su Junhui glanced at each other. Had their dad become completely lovesick?
「The next day.」
Han Liying met Su Qinnuan at her company. If she hadn’t seen Su Qinnuan’s photo beforehand, she would have been truly shocked. Su Qinnuan looked so much like her younger self.
Su Qinnuan nodded politely to Han Liying. "Hello, may I ask who you are?"
"I am Su Jiang’s wife, Han Liying." Han Liying sized up Su Qinnuan. "If it can be confirmed that you are my long-lost daughter, then I will be your mother."
Su Qinnuan had thought Su Jiang or Su Junxian would be the one to come; she hadn’t expected Han Liying.
"I think there must be some misunderstanding. I’ve used this name since I can remember, and in all these years, no one has ever told me I have a family. Now, suddenly, someone tells me I come from a prominent, wealthy family. This is too absurd."
Han Liying said, "I feel the same way, but I will personally investigate any clue related to my daughter. Frankly, you look a lot like I did when I was young. If possible, I hope you would be willing to do a DNA test with me."
"I’m sorry, I’m not willing," Su Qinnuan said, shaking her head without hesitation.
Old Madam Su was at the Su residence. She didn’t want to get too close to Old Madam Su.
"You don’t want to find your biological family?"
"I do, but I don’t believe it’s you," Su Qinnuan said, looking at Han Liying calmly. "I’ve endured many hardships to get where I am. Just when things finally stopped being so tough, someone tells me my family is the top-tier Su Family. It’s quite ironic."
Su Qinnuan had discussed many details with Old Madam Su; she didn’t want the Su Family to confirm her identity too easily. If it were confirmed too easily, the intelligent members of the Su Family would become suspicious.
Han Liying fell silent for a moment. "I respect your decision. If you don’t mind, I would like to see you occasionally. Is that alright?"
"If I happen to be available, then it’s fine."
"Then I won’t disturb your work any longer," Han Liying said, rising to her feet. She gave Su Qinnuan a deep look. "You’re an independent, strong-willed, and outstanding young woman. Even if it turns out you’re not my daughter, I sincerely admire you."
Su Qinnuan was slightly taken aback, unsure what to say.
Han Liying didn’t disturb Su Qinnuan any further and quickly left.
Su Qinnuan returned to her office, thoughtful, and resumed her drawing. She felt indifferent towards the Su Family and the real Su Qinnuan. To her, Old Madam Su had given her a dangerous path to survival and a legitimate identity. There were some things she had to help Old Madam Su accomplish, whether she wanted to or not. After this was done, she would owe Old Madam Su nothing. With this thought, Su Qinnuan steadied her mind and continued drawing.
The media had been warned off by the Su family; no one dared to disturb Su Qinnuan’s work and life anymore.
Shen Yue waited until Han Liying had left, then sauntered in. "I never would’ve thought my employee was the young lady of the Su Family! ’When you become rich and noble, don’t forget your old friends!’"
Su Qinnuan shot him a look. "Do you really think that’s possible? I’ve always lived in Jiangcheng. It’s impossible that they couldn’t find me after all this time. Now, they’re suddenly pushing me into the limelight. It’s very likely they want me to be a scapegoat to alleviate their internal conflicts."
Hearing her say that, Shen Yue breathed a sigh of relief. "I’m relieved you think that way. I was genuinely afraid the sudden surprise would go to your head, and you’d dive headfirst into the Su Family’s deep waters. If that happened, I wouldn’t be able to help you even if I wanted to."
Su Qinnuan looked at him gratefully. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Shen. I’ve stumbled into enough pits on my journey here; I won’t lose my footing now that things have just started to stabilize. Right now, I just want to peacefully complete one project after another and, through my own efforts, become comfortably well-off, achieving a small measure of financial freedom."
Unable to hold back, Shen Yue patted her head. "Keep it up! This morning, I bid on a project. Only after winning it did I realize it’s Fu Ying’s private project. Would you like to take it on?"
"Fu Ying’s project? What does she want to do?"
"I chatted with people from her company. They said there are two projects: one is a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, and the other is a professional Chinese painting exhibition hall. Both plots of land have been secured. If you’re interested, I can take you along when I meet Fu Ying tomorrow."
Su Qinnuan nodded without any hesitation. "If I could work on her project, I believe I would make significant progress. Lately, when I’m drawing, I often feel like I’m not quite up to the task. I’d really like the chance to see what an outstanding woman who rose from an ordinary person to the top of the entertainment industry is like."
"Then it’s settled. You should hurry and finish what you’re working on."
"Thank you, Mr. Shen, for giving me such a wonderful opportunity." Su Qinnuan wasn’t foolish. The company had several talented female designers who were also quite capable. In terms of sheer excellence alone, it was difficult to distinguish who was better among her and the other female designers.
Shen Yue waved dismissively at her and quickly walked out.
「The next day.」
Fu Bing and Wu Shi met Su Qinnuan and Shen Yue at a coffee shop.
Fu Bing smiled. "Miss Su’s design sketches are lovely, and she herself is also very beautiful."
"Thank you for the compliment, Miss Fu. Actually, I met you five years ago. You even gave me an autograph."
"Really?" Fu Bing was surprised.
