CHAPTER 10: CHAPTER 10: IT’S A SMALL WORLD

As soon as I finished talking, I couldn’t help but doze off. The aftereffects of the alcohol were strong, my brain was crawling with sleepiness.

I thought Henry would just let me sleep in the car all night, but to my surprise, the next morning I woke up in my own bed again.

This was the second time he carried me back to my room to sleep, and this trend was getting a bit out of hand.

My head hurt, and it took a shower and a change of clothes for me to feel a bit better, but then my stomach started growling.

I thought Henry wasn’t home, so I went downstairs without a bra, wearing a light, breathable silk pajamas, to make something to eat.

Halfway down the stairs, I saw two or three people sitting on the sofa, all looking up at me in unison.

Henry was among them, holding a few playing cards, and the moment he saw what I was wearing, his face turned darker than a pot’s bottom.

"Damn, avert your eyes!" Silas Lockwood quickly pushed down the other man’s head.

I also hurriedly ran upstairs in a panic to change clothes, all the while cursing Henry eight hundred times. What had gotten into him these days? Eating the wrong medicine or being possessed? How come he was home every few days?

By the time I changed my clothes and came back down, the three of them had stopped playing cards and were chatting instead.

Henry had a few friends he was quite close to, and I knew them, just not well.

There was Silas Lockwood, Ivan Underwood, and Jason Forrest.

All of them were illustrious young heirs from well-known families, but Ivan Underwood was a bit different; instead of honing his skills in the family business, he chose to practice medicine.

All these people knew Henry didn’t like me, and in their hearts, they never saw me as Henry’s wife.

In the past life, they even helped Henry pursue Azure Vaughn, except for Ivan Underwood.

The three of them watched me as I walked downstairs and then into the kitchen, without saying a word.

I nonchalantly made myself a bowl of egg noodles.

"Let’s go," Henry said, standing up and addressing the other two.

Silas Lockwood and Jason Forrest nodded their heads, followed Henry out, and soon the sound of a car engine revved up outside. I slurped my noodles, indifferent to their departure.

After finishing breakfast, I put on a bit of makeup and headed out for the hospital.

The main reason for today was to get a health check-up, and I also planned to visit Joel Sutton.

Once at the hospital, I registered and followed the procedures for the check-up, primarily focusing on the breast examination. Fortunately, there were no major issues, just a simple lobular hyperplasia.

I put away the test results and prepared to go see Joel Sutton.

"Dr. Underwood, are you off duty? Want to grab some dinner together?" I heard a young nurse’s charming voice as soon as I reached the inpatient ward.

Not far away, Ivan Underwood in his white coat cut a thin, elegant figure, with a face exuding restraint and self-control. Amongst Henry’s crowd, he was exceptionally unique, like a lotus emerging unstained from muddy waters.

In that circle of indulgent heirs, each one was adept at drinking and playing, except for Ivan Underwood, who devoted himself to the medical profession. He would occasionally join Henry for some drinks or games, but rarely showed any romantic interest in women.

But didn’t he later become utterly infatuated with Azure Vaughn? I bypassed this person and arrived at Joel Sutton’s hospital room, unexpectedly finding Azure Vaughn there again.

"Azure, your boyfriend just has a minor leg injury, not a broken hand. He can eat by himself," Joel Sutton was showing off his affection to Azure Vaughn, eating the apple she fed him while speaking indistinctly.

Azure’s laughter was crisp and tender, "What, I’m being so nice to you but you still don’t appreciate it?"

"I do, I do, I really do. My Azure treats me the best!" Joel Sutton beamed with a radiant smile, his eyes full of admiration for the beautiful girl by his bedside.

I cleared my throat, interrupting their little couple’s romantic moment.

Joel Sutton was very surprised, "Miss Hathaway, why are you here again?"

Azure quickly stood up and offered me her seat, "Miss Hathaway, please sit."

Azure’s clear and flawless face looked even more stunning up close, and I suddenly thought of the recently departed Ivan Underwood and grabbed Azure’s hand, pulling her out of the hospital room.

"Miss Hathaway, what’s going on?" Azure was startled, following me quickly through the corridor.

How did Ivan Underwood disappear so quickly? I was a bit disappointed. In the past life, it was Henry who met Azure first, then Ivan Underwood got to know Azure through Henry.

What if Ivan Underwood met Azure first? Would it be different? Would he fall for Azure at first sight, just like Henry did?

I sighed and then turned to Azure with a faint smile, "It’s nothing, I was thinking of introducing a doctor to you. He’s quite skilled, in case Sutton needs to get his stitches removed later."

"Miss Hathaway, you really go out of your way. Actually, Joel’s injury isn’t serious," Azure laughed somewhat embarrassedly, "He’s a big guy and not afraid of a little injury. He used to play basketball and got knocked around often, he’s used to it."

I nodded, but I was already thinking that I must find a chance to introduce Azure to Ivan Underwood.

With Azure as the official girlfriend, I had no chance to talk much with Joel Sutton. I only stayed for a few minutes before leaving.

On the way back, I stopped by a pharmacy to buy a new batch of nourishing Chinese herbs.

"Lane, did you find the housekeeping aunties yet?" Back in the car, I called Lane.

"Madam, I’m on my way to your house with them right now," Lane replied.

"Okay."

Half an hour later, I returned to Maplewood Gardens, but Lane beat me there. The aunties were already at their posts, busy with their tasks. Lane’s arrangements in these matters always pleased me.

Seeing me back, Lane introduced me to the aunties, who then respectfully bowed slightly to me, "Hello, Madam."

I nodded and handed the Chinese herbs to an auntie who looked the most fair-skinned, "Brew this up and serve it to me."

After instructing her, I went inside to rest.

After a while, the auntie brought the brewed herbal medicine to me, politely saying, "Madam, the medicine is ready."

I looked at the dark medicine on the table, then at the auntie’s charming face, and kindly asked, "Auntie, may I know your surname?"

"Madam, my surname is Lawson," Auntie Lawson quickly answered.

"Alright, thank you, Auntie Lawson!" I gave what I thought was my sweetest smile, then waved her off, "Alright, you can get back to your work."

Auntie Lawson nodded and turned to leave, and my gaze fell on her retreating figure. Whether it was her appearance or her build, this Auntie Lawson bore a seven to eight-point resemblance to Azure Vaughn.

I suddenly found this world incredibly astonishing, like a domino effect about to collapse.

Hooking up with Azure’s boyfriend, hiring Azure’s mom as housekeeping? I sent a message to Lane asking him to send the housekeeping profiles over, particularly focusing on Auntie Lawson’s details. The emergency contact would usually be a partner.

Upon seeing the name in the emergency contact column, I couldn’t help but smile slightly.

Laura Lawson, Walter Vaughn, these names were so familiar to me. In the past life, I hadn’t found much on Azure, but I did find out her parents’ names.
