After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love
Chapter 179: Under House Arrest
CHAPTER 179: CHAPTER 179: UNDER HOUSE ARREST
Then my mom directly turned off my phone.
I turned my head to glance at the clock on the wall. Henry Preston must think I lied to him, deliberately missing the meeting, but my mom was following me closely, and I couldn’t contact him.
"Mom, who exactly told you that Henry Preston was going to be there today?" I couldn’t figure it out.
Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood wouldn’t say anything, Azure Vaughn and the others didn’t have my mom’s contact information, the only person I could think of was... Ivan Underwood.
But I didn’t think he would do something like tattling on me.
My mom glanced at me, "Don’t worry about who told me. In any case, you can’t have any more involvement with Henry Preston, Zoe, you’ve already been badly hurt by him once. Do you really want to repeat the same mistake?"
"Mom, I didn’t." I explained helplessly.
I told my mom about Ryan Rhodes, and she looked at me suspiciously, but still said, "Anyway, you shouldn’t have any dealings with Henry anymore!"
I nodded and looked at the time again, the clock hand pointed to twelve, and my heart sank.
In the end, my mom didn’t return my phone to me, so I had no choice but to go upstairs, take a shower, and rest.
Just before sleeping, I heard a short car honk outside, and my heart skipped a beat.
I immediately went to the balcony to check the situation. A black Lincoln quietly parked outside, its lights on.
Henry Preston was sitting in the car. Through the half-open window, a faint light shone in. He seemed to be looking toward the gate, but I couldn’t make out his expression at all.
Was he here for me? I stood him up without any notice; he was probably very angry.
I went downstairs to try to explain to him, but by the time I reached the gate, Henry’s car had already left, leaving nothing but the vast night.
I stood at the gate, sighing softly.
——
Afterward, my parents assigned Lane to supervise me. They had things to do and couldn’t really stay home to watch over me.
And having followed me for so long, Lane soon couldn’t help but confess his task to me.
I didn’t blame him; what method did he have to refuse something my parents had tasked him with?
"Lane, let me borrow your phone for a bit!" After watching TV for a while, I turned to Lane and reached out my hand.
Lane looked at my palm, showing a troubled expression on his face.
I shook my hand again, "Not lending? I’ll call Crystal Dawson then!"
After hesitating for a while, Lane sighed softly and handed me his phone.
Afraid he wouldn’t believe me, I stood next to him, letting him watch as I dialed Crystal Dawson’s number.
Lane awkwardly looked away, feeling a bit embarrassed, and eventually decided to wait outside the living room for me to finish calling.
"Crystal, it’s me. How’s Ryan?" As soon as Lane walked out, I immediately asked.
Crystal Dawson sounded surprised, "Zoe?! What’s happened these days? Your phone’s been off, couldn’t reach you, I was about to go to your place to find you."
"Hard to explain, I’ve lost my freedom now, sigh." I briefly explained my current situation.
"Wow, your parents are now the biggest opponents of Henry Preston!" Crystal actually laughed, "It’s good, staying away from scumbags leads to a long life!"
Indeed, staying away from people who make you lose control of your emotions can lead to a healthier life. Didn’t I die from anger in a past life?
Thinking about it is really frustrating!
"Right, by the way, you haven’t told me how Ryan is doing; was it really Sean Lawson’s doing?" I changed the topic and asked again.
Crystal Dawson informed me that the police found an almost lifeless Ryan Rhodes in an abandoned villa, but the others had already run away. Ryan was now in the hospital in stable condition while the police were investigating the kidnappers.
She asked in confusion, "Zoe, how did you convince Henry Preston? I heard from Silas Lockwood that he’s been in a bad mood these days, getting drunk out of the blue. Does it have anything to do with you?"
Was missing the appointment such a big blow to Henry? I hadn’t expected that at all.
I had to explain to her again about promising to watch a movie with Henry.
"My goodness..." Crystal replied dramatically, "Did you both undergo brain-transplant surgery? Did you transplant a love-struck brain into his head?"
If he’s in a bad mood, that’s fine; I’m mainly worried that he thinks I deliberately stood him up to mess with him and will look to give me trouble in the future.
Suddenly, Silas Lockwood’s voice came from Crystal’s side, "Hey, try to talk some sense into him! I’m heading over there now!"
"What’s going on?" Crystal shouted.
"Brother Henry got drunk and got into some kind of conflict, they say it can’t be stopped, I’m going to check it out!" Silas answered anxiously.
I immediately told Crystal, "Okay, Crystal, I’m hanging up now."
Henry got into a conflict with someone; I’m not worried at all, if anything, I’m worried for the person who got into a conflict with him.
After hanging up, I returned the phone to Lane and went upstairs to play the piano to pass the time.
I don’t know how long passed, but Lane suddenly came upstairs with a somewhat complicated expression, "Miss Hathaway!"
"What’s the matter?" I stopped and asked, puzzled.
Lane hesitated before finally shaking his head, "Nothing, it’s almost dinner time, do you need me to cook?"
