CHAPTER 188: CHAPTER 188: CONTACTING MRS. UNDERWOOD

"About last night, I’m sorry." After Wendy Hawthorne and the others left, Henry Preston took off his sunglasses, leaned slightly towards the car window, and apologized to me.

As soon as he mentioned it, those unwanted images resurfaced. I glanced at his lips; they were much paler than last night.

I pushed aside the chaotic thoughts in my mind and replied as calmly as possible, "That was because you lost your senses after being drugged. I won’t hold it against you, but don’t let it happen again."

"Alright." Henry’s eyes held a complicated expression, and he responded in a low voice.

Soon after, his assistant drove the car over and parked beside us. I pressed the gas pedal and left first.

In the rearview mirror, Henry’s figure still stood there, getting smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared.

While driving, I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. Last night’s kiss from Henry unexpectedly stirred a slight, indescribable desire in me. Of course, it wasn’t that I wanted something to happen with him, but as a mature adult woman, having physical needs is perfectly normal.

Since the divorce, aside from Ivan Underwood, I’ve met other men, but I’ve never had any one-night stands or fleeting romances, intentionally neglecting some of my own needs.

Henry’s actions last night were like a spark, igniting the fuse of my desires.

This kind of thing I could only suppress deep in my heart and reconsider the idea of finding a partner. If I can’t have children, then I should find someone who is a dink or is willing to adopt kids together with me.

With all sorts of strange thoughts, I returned home.

As soon as I got home, Crystal Dawson called, excitedly asking, "Zoe, did Ivan Underwood confess to you? Is he determined to pursue you?"

"Why are you asking that all of a sudden?" I was a bit puzzled.

"Silas Lockwood told me on the way back. He said Ivan had a conflict with his family, intends to quit his job at the hospital, and work at the family company. The condition is that the family agrees to him being with you!" Crystal sounded as delighted as a monkey discovering a banana grove.

I knew Ivan had issues with his family, but not in such detail. How could he trade his job for such conditions?

I suddenly felt immense pressure.

"Zoe, why aren’t you saying anything?" Crystal pressed on, "Do you know The Underwood Family is forcing Ivan on blind dates? He refused many times for your sake. I feel he genuinely likes you."

I don’t want this kind of affection; it will only bring me great trouble. Moreover, just because of my identity as Henry’s ex-wife, being with Ivan would be very inappropriate.

"Crystal, does Silas have Ivan’s mother’s number? Can you help me get it?" I replied.

"Zoe, what are you..." Crystal was extremely puzzled.

"Just send it to me." I was a bit flustered and hung up the phone directly. Ivan never discussed his decision with me. Before I accepted him, everything he did for me was just a burden.

A minute later, Crystal sent me a number. I dialed it without any hesitation.

Mrs. Underwood quickly answered the phone. Her voice sounded quite young, "Hello, who is this?"

"Hello, Auntie. I’m Zoe Hathaway, a friend of Ivan’s." I introduced myself frankly and spoke calmly because I never intended to be with Ivan, so his mother’s opposition was irrelevant to me.

Hearing my identity, there was a pause on the other side, as if Mrs. Underwood didn’t expect me to contact her proactively.

Due to my family background and the fact that I was Henry’s ex-wife, Mrs. Underwood was rather polite and didn’t act haughty towards me.
