After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love
Chapter 48: Ectopic Pregnancy
CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48: ECTOPIC PREGNANCY
Now we need to come up with a way to make Leah see Connor’s true colors. The longer we drag this out, the worse it will be.
"Let’s just tell her directly. It might be devastating at the time, but it’s better than continuing to be deceived," Crystal Dawson always handled things boldly, and this was no exception.
Even if it meant losing the bond between sisters, she would still do it.
I thought about it, and currently, the best approach seemed to be this. Tiana O’Connell and I exchanged glances, silently agreeing.
We discussed Leah’s issue with Crystal and the others for a long time, and they didn’t leave until midnight. Since I had slept too long that afternoon, I was quite alert at night, so I decided to watch a movie.
As I watched, I recalled the call Azure Vaughn made to Henry Preston today, and then impulsively opened my phone and entered Joel Sutton’s Moments.
Although Azure and I are also friends, I don’t have her contact information, only Joel’s. I learned about some of their situations through his Moments updates because Joel is someone who loves posting updates, seemingly showcasing his girlfriend to the world.
The background picture in Joel’s Moments had changed from a photo of him with Azure to a picture of a basketball star, along with a new caption: "I wasn’t good enough."
Looking again, he hadn’t updated his Moments in days.
"Sigh." I couldn’t help but sigh. Their innocent campus romance finally crumbled under the oppression of ruthless capitalists.
I sent a message to Joel Sutton: "Sutton, are you still awake?"
It took Joel a while to reply: "No, I’m not."
I asked again: "Are you and Azure okay? Why did you change the background picture in your Moments?"
This time, Joel replied quickly: "Miss Hathaway, Azure and I broke up."
This situation wasn’t much different from the last life. Even with my involvement, I couldn’t stop Joel and Azure from breaking up. Truly, the progress of a romance between the protagonists can’t be thwarted by supporting characters.
Today was likely the day Azure sought comfort from Henry, or maybe it was about her neighborhood undergoing relocation. I couldn’t think of any other reason.
I started comforting Joel Sutton and casually arranged to meet up for a meal in the next few days.
Joel agreed, then told me he was going to sleep. I replied: "Goodnight."
Joel Sutton: "Goodnight, Miss Hathaway."
Starting this night, Henry didn’t return home for a whole week. I didn’t dwell too much on it, just focused on resolving Leah’s issue with Crystal Dawson and Tiana O’Connell.
We feared that after Leah learned the truth, she might be swayed by Connor, as Connor had indeed been quite good to her, and their relationship was deeply rooted. If Connor apologized and asked for forgiveness, she might soften.
So, Crystal Dawson found an excuse to lure Leah to her house, where Tiana O’Connell and I were also present.
"What are you all doing here?" Leah looked at the three of us, our faces serious, with some confusion.
"Yara, have you ever heard the saying, ’Three-legged frogs are hard to find, but two-legged men are everywhere’?" Crystal began.
Leah was puzzled, "I’ve heard it, but does that saying have some special meaning?"
I spoke, "It does, Yara. We are your best friends, as close as family sisters. Do you trust us? No matter what happens, we will always be your support!"
Tiana nodded, "Yes, we would never hurt you!"
Leah’s expression changed as if she sensed something bad was about to happen, but then she forced a smile, "What are you saying? Of course, I know you wouldn’t harm me. In my heart, you are my sisters."
Crystal and I exchanged glances, took out a phone, opened a video, and placed it in front of Leah.
Leah watched intently, and soon her face turned pale.
"Yara..." My heart ached. The truth was really too ugly. The happily-ever-after marriage she had longed for was destined to be destroyed at this moment.
Leah suddenly stood up, looking at us, her mouth opened but no words came out before she fainted.
Crystal, quick on her feet, caught her, "Yara!"
Half an hour later, I was driving, with Crystal and Tiana holding Leah in the back, rushing to the hospital.
After much hustle, the doctor told us that Leah had a mildly ruptured ectopic pregnancy. This child had to be lost, or it could be life-threatening!
Crystal contacted Leah’s parents to come to the hospital and sign for the surgery, also explaining everything to them.
"That beast Connor!" Leah’s father was shaking with anger.
"Yara absolutely cannot marry him!" Leah’s mother tearfully said, both angry and heartbroken.
I held her hand, comforting, "Auntie, Yara and Connor haven’t gotten married yet, everything is still timely. This child being an ectopic pregnancy, even the heavens are giving her a hand, pulling her out of the fire. So, rest assured, leave this matter to us. We will definitely give you a satisfactory explanation. In the meantime, please don’t approach Connor."
Ending things just like this is too easy on him.
Leah’s parents agreed to our request. When Leah was wheeled out of surgery, we gathered around to check on her condition.
Leah was pale, eyes closed, unresponsive. The doctor said it was because the anesthetic hadn’t worn off yet, and she would wake up shortly.
I asked Crystal and Tiana to accompany Leah’s mother home to prepare some chicken soup, then suggested Leah’s father go back to his company and not to worry. I stayed by Leah’s side, waiting for her to wake up.
"Yara, are you awake?" A while later, Leah awoke, and I quickly poured her a cup of water, "Here, have some warm water."
Leah looked at me, her eyes weary. I thought she would blame me, blame me for revealing Connor’s infidelity to Crystal and the others, causing her embarrassment.
But instead, Leah raised her hand to hold mine and weakly said, "Zoe, thank you, otherwise I would have continued to be deceived."
I was stunned, suddenly feeling my eyes grow warm. I put down the cup and held her hand in return, comforting, "Yara, as long as you get through this period, everything will get better. Connor doesn’t deserve you!"
Leah’s eyes were filled with pain, but she nodded, "I know, I just can’t understand why he would do this. Was I not good enough?"
"You’re great, it’s just that he’s trash. Yara, even your child is trying to stop you from jumping into the fire pit. You must stay clear-headed." I squeezed her hand firmly.
Leah touched her stomach with her other hand, a tear sliding down from the corner of her eye, "Yes, maybe the child knew that if he were here, I might try to endure, so he chose to leave me!"
