After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love
Chapter 55: Coming Clean
CHAPTER 55: CHAPTER 55: COMING CLEAN
"No, you’re taking it too seriously. Do I dare to mess with you?" I explained, "When Laura came to work as a maid at the house, you hadn’t met Azure yet. I’m not a fortune teller who can know things beforehand."
Henry’s face softened slightly, and he fell silent. The air in the ward seemed to be drained with his silence.
He always had a strong aura, especially when he’s in a bad mood. The pressure doubles.
I also fell silent. Now, everything has been almost laid out, anything more seems redundant.
Finally, Henry got up, "From now on, don’t have any contact with her. Don’t investigate her, don’t approach her, and act like nothing happened."
"How can it be as if nothing happened?" I said, my tone already cold, staring indifferently at Henry, "You’ve always treated me like I’m what? A fool or a madwoman? Do you really think I can pretend things that hurt me never happened? Do you think it’s possible?"
"So, what do you want?" Henry stood at the bedside, looking down at me like a god, and I, a devout believer who worshipped him for ten years.
I sarcastically asked, "Henry, did you compromise on the engineering project for her? That’s why you went to negotiate personally, causing me to get hurt."
"Yes." Henry was blunt enough to never beat around the bush.
"Since you now know everything, and she knows I’m your wife, why don’t we just divorce amicably? I’ll let her have this position without complaint." I brought up the idea of divorce again.
In the past, Henry chased after Azure for about a year before he laid things out with me and proposed divorce. Now many things have changed, he might as well divorce me early.
Tiana was right, this man is my catastrophe!
I want to escape disaster and pursue a better life.
Henry’s aura almost instantly cooled, I almost had an illusion that he was standing in the icy snow, and even his eyes turned into icy arrows.
At this moment, Ivan appeared at the hospital door, frowned slightly, with a complex look at me and Henry’s confrontation.
Henry also noticed Ivan’s presence and gloomily said to me, "Before I bring it up myself, don’t even dream about it."
After saying that, he turned and left. When passing by Ivan, he stopped and said, "There’s a gathering tonight, want to grab a drink?"
"Sure, just send me the address." Ivan nodded.
The two stood at almost the same height, both were very striking men, standing together was even more pleasing. After Henry left, I joked with Ivan, "Dr. Underwood, you never had a girlfriend, could it be that you like men? How about helping me chase Henry, break him and Azure up? I’ll send you a banner, and wrap a red envelope for you!"
Ivan shot an eye dagger my way, and I immediately clammed up.
"You laid things out with him?" He sat down where Henry was just sitting and asked calmly.
"Yes, regarding the engineering project, he investigated Walter and Orson Vaughn and found out my household maid Laura is Walter Vaughn’s wife, Azure’s mother." I sighed, "Alas, he still refused to agree to a divorce."
"If he was just fooling around with Azure, would you forgive him?" Ivan scrutinized me.
I laughed out loud, "Haha, do you think I’m a saint? And do you think he’s just having fun with Azure?"
Ivan was silent, lost in thought. Inwardly, I wondered why Ivan hadn’t fallen for Azure yet.
A minute later, I understood.
Without any interaction, how could a man love a woman? Ivan hadn’t seen Azure in person, or talked and dined with her, missing the chance to fall for Azure.
I need to figure out a way for him to encounter Azure soon.
At this point, Ivan took a call and went on to work, while I lay in bed contemplating how to find a reasonable excuse for him to meet Azure and gradually pique his interest.
If Henry suddenly has a rival in love, and it’s his childhood friend, his possessiveness over Azure would intensify.
Then, would he agree to divorce me?
During hospitalization, I pondered this issue countless times. Until the day of discharge, Ivan suddenly found me and told me something.
That was Henry took Azure to meet Ivan and their mutual friends.
I understood what this meant. After marrying him for five years, I never got the chance to eat with Ivan and the others.
"Oh, I see." I said calmly, nodding in response.
"Not even a bit sad?" Ivan raised an eyebrow.
"The most useless emotion is sadness." I cheerily patted Ivan’s arm, "Thanks, let’s have a meal together next time."
Having said that, I went to the car, where my mom was waiting.
Sorrow, anger, sadness, and grief were the main themes of my emotions in my past life. I’ve had enough and let it go. Tears never change any fact.
My mom looked at Ivan outside the car window and asked, "What did Dr. Underwood say to you?"
"Nothing much, just congratulating me on being discharged." I hugged my mom’s arm and laid my head flat on her shoulder, then instructed Lane, "Lane, drive back to Maplewood Gardens."
"Yes, Ma’am." Lane replied, and the car smoothly started driving away from the hospital.
Back at Maplewood Gardens, I asked my mom to stay for lunch, but she insisted on going home to eat, saying my dad is also returning home today.
I teased, "Mom, you and dad are old husband and wife, and still so clingy? When he came back from a business trip previously, you weren’t in such a hurry. What’s going on, reliving the young days of affection?"
My mom flashed a smile and jokingly scolded, "You little rascal, dare to joke about your dad and me?"
"No, no, okay then, I’ll let Lane drive you home." I raised my hand to block my mom’s attempt to hit me, laughing.
"All right, take care of your health and eat well." My mom advised me before leaving.
After Lane drove my mom away, I sat alone in the living room dazed, not sure of Laura’s current situation, whether she knew about Azure and Joel’s breakup or realized that Henry was pursuing Azure.
I thought too much, causing a slight headache, and went upstairs to rest without having lunch.
Due to the injury, Henry gave me half a month’s sick leave. After discharge, I stayed at Maplewood Gardens to recuperate, apart from occasionally gathering with Crystal and the others, I hardly had any activities.
The demolition problem of the engineering project was resolved smoothly within this half-month, and ultimately, like the last time, Henry compromised.
I believe his relationship with Azure must have progressed significantly.
I haven’t had any contact with Ivan recently. I offered to treat him to a meal, but he declined due to work.
Perhaps because Henry brought Azure to meet him a few times, he started realizing Azure is a charming girl and developed feelings, naturally having no time to listen to my grievances.
