CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: BUILD A SNOWMAN WITH ME

I took the bag. Although the fruits and vegetables didn’t look as appealing as those sold in markets, they were clean and fresh. I didn’t mind at all. In fact, I admired her and Walter Vaughn. One worked in housekeeping, and the other could grow vegetables at home to be self-sufficient.

"Thank you, Auntie Lawson. You weren’t aware of this either, so it’s not your fault. Don’t worry about it," I replied gently.

"Ah, I know you have a kind heart, ma’am. Walter is an impulsive person and used to get into trouble often. It’s happened again this time. As his sister-in-law, all I can do is come and apologize for him," Laura Lawson sighed.

It seems she doesn’t know about the situation between Henry Preston and Azure Vaughn. Otherwise, she wouldn’t just mention her brother-in-law.

Laura chatted with me for a while. I wanted to invite her to stay for a meal, but she declined. Before she left, I casually asked, "Auntie Lawson, do you know any girls in their early twenties? I have a friend, a really nice guy, but he can’t seem to find a girlfriend. He asked me to introduce someone, but I don’t have anyone!"

"Ma’am, if you don’t have a suitable candidate, how could I?" Laura waved her hand dismissively.

"Isn’t your daughter a college student, Auntie Lawson? She must have many friends at that blooming age. If she doesn’t have a boyfriend, I’d really like to introduce him to her. My friend is truly great," I said with genuine regret.

Laura hesitated to speak, stayed silent for a few seconds, and then shook her head. "My daughter broke up with her boyfriend, but I’ve heard someone is pursuing her now. She won’t tell us who it is."

Azure Vaughn actually shared some information with her family? I was surprised. Isn’t she afraid of angering her parents?

In the past, was it she who came clean with her family, or was it Henry Preston’s assertive appearance before her parents? I’m not sure.

I got interested and asked, "Really? Auntie Lawson, your daughter must be outstanding. The man pursuing her must be quite good. Don’t worry."

"How can I not worry? Ma’am, when you have children, you’ll understand that parents never stop worrying about their kids, especially daughters. I’m just afraid she’ll choose the wrong person," Laura looked troubled, making me laugh out loud.

Laura was startled, unsure why I was laughing, and just stared at me.

I quickly covered up, "I’m just laughing at your overthinking. Like mother, like daughter. Auntie Lawson, you’re a very righteous and kind person, so naturally, your daughter would be like you too. People flock together, and the man she likes will definitely be outstanding."

I praised Laura, but in the future, the things Azure does will make her wonder if she is really her daughter.

Honestly, I was laughing at Laura for overthinking. What’s the use of fearing now that her daughter might choose the wrong person? Even if they oppose, they’ll still be defeated by Henry Preston’s wealth and sincerity in the end.

I believe money played a significant role. If it were an ordinary married man who divorced for Azure, her parents would likely strongly object.

"You’re too kind, ma’am!" Laura felt a bit embarrassed.

"By the way, I often hear about your daughter from you. I’m curious about what kind of girl she is. Could you show me a photo?" I asked curiously.

Laura took out her phone and showed me a family portrait. I glanced at it and showed a surprised expression, "Auntie Lawson, so your daughter is Azure!"

Laura was equally surprised, "Ma’am, do you know my daughter?"

She had never told me her daughter’s name.

I nodded, "Yeah, she used to work part-time at a coffee shop. I met her there over coffee. Later, I accidentally bumped into her boyfriend, and when I saw her at the hospital, we all got to know each other."

"What a coincidence, truly destined!" Laura was overjoyed, her face beaming. "It’s fortunate for Azure to have a friend like you, ma’am!"

"Auntie Lawson, next time we have the chance, I’ll treat you and Azure to a meal!" I said warmly.

"How could I let you treat us, ma’am? If you don’t mind, you’re welcome at our home for a simple meal!" Laura replied.

"Great, I’ll be over in a couple of days to indulge. Please don’t mind, Auntie Lawson!" I was eager to visit their little home, as it’s also the future in-laws’ place of Henry Preston.

Laura gladly agreed. Up until now, she truly likes me, which I can tell.

After Laura left, the smile on my face disappeared, and I felt that the world was purely surreal.

That day, I stayed home all day without stepping out. As it was near the end of the year, Henry informed me to start work again in the new year and take a good rest at home during this time, with the salary still included.

I wasn’t short of money, but his backdoor convenience touched me.

By evening, snowflakes started floating outside. Today’s snow was heavier, falling in large flurries, and soon the whole world was draped in silver, like a snow-bedecked world.

Henry stepped in, covered in snow and a cold wind, pushing the door open. He took off his coat at the door, and a servant immediately came over to dust off the snowflakes and took it away. He then changed into slippers and came in.

As he sat down beside me, I caught a familiar scent of perfume.

I previously brought a bottle of this perfume as a gift for Laura and others while traveling, so I occasionally smelled it on other servants too, which made it a familiar scent.

Henry usually doesn’t like using perfume or bother with these things, so he didn’t notice the scent on him was different.

I knew he must have just returned from Azure’s place. Laura probably gave that bottle of perfume to her daughter.

Didn’t Laura tell Azure it was a gift from me? Didn’t she mind using it then? She even sprayed it to meet Henry?

"Isn’t dinner ready yet?" Henry glanced towards the dining room.

"Almost. Why didn’t you eat outside?" I asked while cradling a bowl of freshly cooked snow fungus soup, gently blowing on it.

Whether it’s social engagements or enjoying home-cooked dishes with Azure, eating outside was more usual than coming back for dinner.

Henry gave me a look, his dark eyes revealing no emotion, "I just didn’t want to eat outside."

"Oh," I nodded, scooping up the snow fungus soup and sipping noisily, in a way that wasn’t very graceful.

Henry seemed to be watching me, but when I looked at him, he would lower his gaze to his phone.

After a while, a servant informed us that dinner was ready, and I slowly got up and walked to the dining room, with Henry sitting across from me. We ate in silence.

"Do you need to go out tonight?" I broke the silence after dinner.

"No, why?" Henry glanced up at me.

"Help me build a snowman!" I smiled gleefully at him, "Your mom’s birthday is coming soon. You help me build a snowman, and I’ll play along with your family’s act, guaranteed to make her happy."

Henry’s face darkened, "Zoe Hathaway, where did you learn to threaten people like this?"

I muttered to myself, wasn’t it from you? In the past, Henry used various means to coax and coerce me into a divorce. I’ve only just begun!

But outwardly, I remained calm, "Do I need to learn that? Just tell me whether or not you’ll help!"

This was one of my obsessions. I had once seen a snowman built by Henry and Azure on Ivan’s phone, imagining the playful and sweet scene of them frolicking in the snow.

But that too was in a past life.

I just want to prove myself now, even if it ends in a divorce. It would give me satisfaction before that happens.
