After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 166: Aren’t You Afraid to Follow Me?
CHAPTER 166: CHAPTER 166: AREN’T YOU AFRAID TO FOLLOW ME?
"He’s really good to you, knowing you’re too busy to eat and specially delivering this."
"Yes, he’s still at work." Lucy Eaton slightly smiled, recalling the nurses’ gossip, and asked, "Dr. Paxton, I heard you’re getting married soon?"
"Yes, that’s right."
"Congratulations in advance."
"Thank you, you must come. It’s on a Saturday."
"I will."
A nurse entered from outside, "Dr. Paxton, Dr. Eaton, have you heard about Dr. Reed’s dismissal?"
"Sarah Reed?" Lucy Eaton asked, "Why was she fired?"
"It seems to be because of a man. Not just her, but also Dr. Faye." The nurse recounted dramatically, "Now Sarah Reed is making a scene in the director’s office, crying terribly. She’s worked here for so long, with a good salary, it’s unlikely she’ll find such a good job again."
"Because of a man? What do you mean?" Lucy Eaton was puzzled.
"Before heading to the director’s office, Dr. Reed told us that she and Dr. Faye were on their way back to the office, walking down the corridor, when suddenly a man in a black suit, wearing a mask and sunglasses, called out to them and directly told them they were dismissed."
Lucy Eaton frowned slightly, finding the description oddly similar to Jacob Green.
Michael Paxton looked at her, saying nothing but confirming with his eyes.
Once the nurse left, Lucy Eaton texted Jacob Green, asking if it was his doing.
Jacob Green replied: [How could my wife be insulted by their filthy words?]
With just one sentence, Lucy Eaton understood the reason.
She was already displeased with Sarah Reed, and now that Sarah got herself into trouble, it was her own fault.
After thinking it over, she replied to Jacob Green: [Well done.]
She wasn’t a saint, and her patience had limits. With someone like Sarah Reed, constant tolerance would only lead to more audacity on her part. This way, it’s better not to see, not to be bothered.
Putting down her phone, Lucy Eaton spoke, "Sarah Reed’s mouth is truly incurable."
Michael Paxton immediately understood what she meant, though he hadn’t expected her husband to be such an extraordinary man.
"I won’t say anything to others. I know what kind of person Sarah is, having worked with her for so long."
Lucy Eaton gave him a smile, "Thank you."
——
"You wanted to see me?" Flora Palmer looked coldly at Stellan Quinn in front of her, "What’s the matter?"
Stellan Quinn nodded, "Yes."
"Have a seat."
She sat opposite Flora Palmer, saying with a smile, "His Highness told me you know about our situation."
"And then?"
"His Highness doesn’t plan to break up with me."
Flora Palmer had expected this outcome, "Does it matter?"
"There’s something I want to tell you before His Highness knows."
"Go ahead."
"I’m pregnant, one month along."
A sharp knife seemed to pierce Flora Palmer’s heart, leaving her dazed, "What did you say?"
"I said I’m pregnant; just found out today, one month already." Stellan Quinn smiled even more brightly, "His Highness doesn’t know yet, Great Princess Consort. I’m telling you first so you can be aware that His Highness does not love you. Your position is temporary, and one day, it won’t be yours."
"You want me to be aware? Just because of you, a plastic surgery freak?" Flora Palmer sneered, "These days, people are hard to understand. Mistresses speak so righteously. What if His Highness doesn’t love me? Even if my position is temporary, so what? At the very least... I’m his proper wife right now, and who are you? Pregnant? Do you think he’ll let you have this child?"
"He likes me so much, surely he will."
"Is that so?" Flora Palmer gripped the sofa tightly, "Get out of here now."
Stellan Quinn laughed as she rose, satisfied with having provoked her, then gracefully left.
As the door closed, Flora Palmer felt her nerves nearly shattering, not from distress over Arthur Bennett, but herself.
She feared what Stellan Quinn had said might be true, that he liked Stellan Quinn so much he would allow the child to be born.
If the child were born, her ’accidental’ death might become more imminent.
With Stellan Quinn rising in status from mothering a child, and if he didn’t want the stigma of divorce, only her death remained an option.
"Miss, you have protection now, you don’t have to be so lost."
Flora Palmer looked at Lewis with red eyes, forcing herself to calm down, "Right, I have protection, I’m not afraid."
Yet her trembling hands still betrayed how terrified she felt inside.
"No matter what happens, Lewis will protect you even at the cost of his life. Don’t worry too much, Miss."
It was the first time anyone had said such a thing to her, and coming from her bodyguard, Flora Palmer was moved, whether it was true or not.
"Aren’t you afraid, following me?"
"Not afraid."
"Do all bodyguards have such courage?" Flora Palmer’s demeanor gradually relaxed.
"Not all, but at least ninety percent do."
Flora Palmer looked him in the eye, "Lewis, you were assigned by my brother while he was alive. Did you stay with him before?"
"Yes, but previously, I was at the company, so you hadn’t met me."
"Knock, knock, knock." A maid’s voice came from outside, "Great Princess Consort, His Highness says dinner will be here."
"Understood." Flora Palmer answered briefly, then lowered her voice, "Even now, still playing pretend, doesn’t he tire of it?"
After speaking, she picked up her embroidery, focusing intently on the stitching.
She was embroidering her own portrait.
Hours passed as she stitched without a pause.
At six-thirty in the evening, dinner commenced.
At the table, the couple ate in silence, each minding their own meal.
Halfway through, Flora Palmer finally spoke, "I haven’t properly congratulated you yet."
"Congratulate for what?"
"Didn’t Stellan Quinn tell you she’s one month pregnant?"
Upon hearing this, Arthur Bennett’s expression drastically changed, "Wha...at?!"
Seeing his uninformed expression, Flora Palmer laughed, "You’re going to be a father."
Suddenly, Arthur Bennett put down his chopsticks and left.
Watching his back, Flora Palmer smirked sarcastically and continued eating.
She even began drinking alone.
Seeing her drinking more and more, Lewis reminded, "Miss, don’t drink too much, it’s harmful."
"It’s fine." Her eyes were glazed as she looked at the wine glass with a laugh, "I have no future in this life."
With that, she tilted her head back and drank another glass of wine.
Until the meal ended, Arthur Bennett did not return.
Flora Palmer became thoroughly drunk.
Lewis helped her back to her room.
"I still want to drink... Don’t stop me..."
"Miss, you’re drunk." Lewis helped her sit on the bedside and was about to pour her tea when she grabbed his hand.
Their eyes met, and seeing her eyes red and misty, Lewis’s heart stirred, "Miss..."
