After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 215: I’m Pregnant (Part 19)
CHAPTER 215: CHAPTER 215: I’M PREGNANT (PART 19)
"I’m not going to the office this week."
"Give me a reason."
"Chasing a man."
Jacob Green’s voice was deep, "No matter who you’re chasing, I won’t interfere as long as you believe they’re the right person. But I want to tell you, if a man truly wants to be with you, you won’t need to try hard; he will approach you on his own."
"I am your sister, the daughter of the Green Family. This identity alone will make half of the men shy away. Who chases who doesn’t matter; what matters is living for myself. If the family asks this week, just tell them I’ve gone traveling. Hanging up."
She parked the car at a hotel at the foot of the mountain, paid the parking fee, stuffed snacks into her luggage, and went up the mountain with a mask and sunglasses on.
It was already dark, and raindrops started falling. She didn’t encounter anyone on the way.
Unlike the bustling crowd during the day, the temple was quite desolate at night.
Lily Green stealthily went in, sneaking like a thief to Logan Moore’s residence.
The room was lit, but no one was there.
She usually saw him in the meditation hall.
This was her first time in his bedroom.
She had passed by the door before wanting to peek inside but was too shy to ask.
The style was quite classical, making her feel a bit uncomfortable.
She put the suitcase in the wardrobe, just closed the door when the sound of many footsteps came from outside.
She hurriedly opened another wardrobe door and hid inside.
She gently pushed the door ajar enough to see outside.
The newcomers were Logan Moore’s family of three.
Lily Green held her breath as she saw the three of them sit down.
Logan’s mother spoke first, "Initially, your father and I thought you weren’t ready because you were too familiar with Anne. But it turns out it’s because of the heiress from Clan Green. Logan, don’t you understand her status and ours? Our family’s temple needs you to inherit in the future. A lady accustomed to wealth like her can’t endure such hardship. We absolutely forbid you from continuing to see her."
Logan’s father nodded, "We know what kind of person Anne is, and she’s perfect for you."
"Father..." Logan Moore responded, "Lily and I are just friends right now, not as you imagine. Even if we end up together in the future, I hope my parents will respect my choice. Lily is someone who thinks far ahead in marital matters compared to you. Don’t worry about things that haven’t happened, nor too much about what’s happening now. I’m not a child; I’ve thought about this."
"Logan, we are merely analyzing for you. A noble family like the Green Family is beyond our reach. Moreover, we don’t want such a prominent in-law. It wouldn’t be an honor but oppression. You’ve always been obedient and content. Lily is a strong woman in the business world, not someone you can handle."
Logan Moore lowered his eyes, "I want to make my own decisions about my marriage. I will not accept the arranged marriage you’ve set for me. I’ll listen to you on everything else, but when it comes to choosing a partner for life, I want to decide for myself. It’s late; you should go and rest."
Logan’s parents exchanged a glance, rising to leave, and his mother remarked, "If you truly don’t wish to be with Anne, we won’t force you. But we hope you can find a girl from a typical background. A wealthy lady like Lily, I cannot have such a daughter-in-law. I won’t allow my son to endure hardship. The Green Family would never agree to her marrying you, so why hold these futile ideas? How will they see us if they knew?"
Logan Moore reiterated, "I’ve said it, Lily and I are just friends now."
"Just friends, and you’d write such a letter to her?" Logan’s mother didn’t believe a word, "Think carefully about what your parents said."
Once the door closed, silence enveloped the room.
Lily Green hugged her knees, curious about what Logan Moore wrote in the letter.
She saw Logan Moore sitting motionless, so she pushed the door open and stepped out.
Seeing her, Logan Moore was both surprised and excited.
"You... how did you end up there?"
Lily Green sat across from him, "Since you didn’t call me, I thought I’d come and see. Just as I entered, I heard your footsteps, so I hid."
"Did you hear everything my parents said?"
"I heard it all." Lily Green lowered her eyes, "I didn’t expect my family background would be such a burden in your parents’ eyes. I think there’s only one way to determine if two people belong to the same world, and that’s the connection of hearts. If my parents forced me to marry someone I didn’t want, I would never compromise. If they didn’t agree with me being with someone I love, I wouldn’t give up. I’ve waited until 26 without a relationship for love. I want to be with the person I love. My marriage will not be controlled; whether I marry someone I love or someone I don’t, it will be my choice alone."
"My parents inherently don’t want me to have a dominant wife, whether financially or in temperament. They think I lack authority before a wife and in-laws, especially since I’m three years younger than you... But as you said, the only determinant between two people is the connection of the heart."
Lily Green smiled slightly, "What’s in the letter you gave me?"
"Nothing much, just telling you I’m back."
"Not just that?" she pursued, "Be honest, what else?"
He diverted his gaze, "No... nothing else."
"If you can’t say it, rewrite it for me, word by word."
Seeing how eager she was to know, Logan Moore nodded and got up.
He sat at the desk, took out paper and pen, and began writing.
Lily Green didn’t watch but waited for him to finish.
"Here."
Lily Green took it, finding no extra words, only two lines from a poem.
They were from a work by Song dynasty poet Emily Leigh [Anne] from A Cut of Plum. [A kind of longing, two places of idle sorrow. This feeling has no way to obliterate, just relieved from brows, yet rises in the heart.]
When Lily Green read it, she felt delighted, holding the paper close with joy in her expression, "You like me too."
Logan Moore’s face was a bit flushed, "Yes, I do."
Lily Green threw herself into his arms, Logan Moore’s breath halting for a moment.
His chest beat rapidly, more powerfully in the quiet of the night.
His arm gently encircled her waist, unwilling to let go.
