CHAPTER 226: CHAPTER 226: I’M PREGNANT (PART 30)

When a few employees returned to the store, they found that her luggage was also missing.

Mary’s departure without notice made everyone indignant.

Although the incident was triggered by her, since she wasn’t the one who hired people to beat up James Foster like that, there’s no way to hold her accountable.

So they had to let her flee.

Lucy Eaton learned about James Foster’s accident from the society section of the news.

The news didn’t cover everything; it didn’t mention the specifics, only saying it was due to private grudges.

Lucy knows James better than anyone; what kind of enemies could he possibly have?

She racked her brains but couldn’t figure out exactly who was behind it.

She returned to Ningham.

Went to the People’s Hospital,

nearly bumped into Jacob Green and Nathaniel Green.

Seeing Jacob and his entourage heading to Michael Paxton’s office, she put on her hat and mask and went to the intensive care unit, where James Foster’s father and Watson were keeping vigil. No one else was in sight.

Just as she approached, Watson’s phone rang. He went to answer the call elsewhere.

Lucy followed him.

"Hello, mom."

"..."

"Where are you now?"

Watson told his parents the exact location and then hung up. Lucy sat on the chair, looking down and pretending to browse her phone.

Soon, Watson’s parents and his older brother and sister-in-law arrived.

They inquired carefully about James’s situation, and Lucy listened attentively. Upon learning the cause of James’s accident and his current condition, she was heartbroken to the point of struggling to breathe.

"What? That woman named Mary even ran away? Where did she go? Catch her and give her a beating!" Watson’s mother was infuriated, "What a troublemaker!"

"Even if we beat her to death, what does that change? We’d end up in jail ourselves. Right now, the police are pursuing those who actually committed the assault."

"Watson, come with me. I need to speak with you alone."

Watson stood up and followed his mother towards the stairwell, Lucy quietly trailing behind.

"Since the doctor said he shows signs of being in a vegetative state, he probably won’t wake up. Fortunately, you’re just engaged, so let’s call off the engagement."

"Mom, what are you talking about?" Watson’s face turned stern, "James is already like this, and you want me to tell his parents we’re calling off the engagement?"

"It’s hard to say now, but maybe wait for a while before bringing it up. But this engagement must be called off; you can’t spend your whole life staying with him, can you? After all, you’re only engaged, not his wife; you don’t have the obligation to take care of him."

"I’m not going to call off the engagement."

Watson’s mother glared, "Are you being foolish? Don’t be so stubborn. Do you want to waste your wonderful life on him?"

"James isn’t gone yet; he’ll wake up, he surely will!" Watson turned his face away, "Mom, don’t say that again."

"Hey, how can you be so infuriating?"

"I’m not interested in your opinions. I’ll definitely wake him up."

With that, Watson left, unwilling to continue the conversation with his mother.

"You’ll regret it if you don’t listen to me," Watson’s mom followed, "Do you know how hard it’ll be? If he never wakes up, and you don’t even have a child, taking care of him will exhaust you!"

"I’m not afraid," Watson’s mother said as she walked, "Mom, just stop talking, I really love him."

"..."

Lucy leaned against the wall and looked up, walking to the front of the intensive care unit and gazing inside at James Foster, her eyes filled with tears.

She stayed there until the afternoon when Nathaniel Green came to pick up James Foster, and then she left the hospital.

With Jacob Green around, she felt at ease.

After arriving in Northriver and disembarking from the plane, she sent Jacob Green a message: [Where are you?]

[I’m in Ningham. My friend was seriously injured, so I’ve returned.]

She inquired further: [What happened to your friend?]

[He was attacked, injured his head, and the situation isn’t good. Treatment in Ningham is limited, so he’s been transferred to Northriver First People’s Hospital.]

Lucy asked again, [Have the perpetrators been caught?]

Jacob Green replied: [Just got notified by the police about ten minutes ago, they’ve been caught.]

[That’s good. So when will you be back?]

[Tomorrow.]

Lucy didn’t ask anything else.

After returning home and making dinner, just as she was about to eat, Elliot Gill called.

"If I don’t call you, you won’t think of calling me."

She turned on the speakerphone and placed the cellphone on the table, "Have you eaten yet?"

"I have."

"I’m eating now."

"What did you make?"

Lucy replied while eating, "Regular home-cooked meals, braised eggplant, sweet and sour fish, and tomato egg soup."

"The food here doesn’t suit my taste; the meal you cook is still the best." Elliot Gill whispered softly, "I’m making good progress here. I’ll be back tomorrow, in time for dinner. Make something delicious."

"Okay." Lucy didn’t forget to ask, "How’s your arm injury?"

"It doesn’t hurt anymore."

"I know it doesn’t hurt; how’s the recovery?"

Elliot Gill’s voice was filled with a noticeable smile, "Very good. It’s rare to hear you care about me; I’m so happy. Tomorrow you’ll see for yourself how I’m doing. Now I have to go to a meeting, see you tomorrow."

Lucy hung up and thought about the comatose James Foster, then about her own hidden identity, and suddenly found it difficult to swallow her meal.

The originally five-year period, neither long nor short, suddenly felt endlessly long in her heart.

——

Jacob Green went to Lily Green’s residence, and upon opening the door, he almost couldn’t believe that the disheveled woman was his second sister.

She reeked of alcohol.

"Just how much did you drink?"

"Come in and you’ll see."

She turned around to get a drink of water.

The living room was littered with bottles; Jacob frowned and called Nathaniel Green to have him send some help for cleaning.

Jacob’s voice was deep, "Are you really going to the matchmaking banquet tonight?"

Lily Green lazily sat on the sofa, sipping water and saying, "Of course, I gave my word."

Jacob observed her red eyes, "I’d rather you be alone than just pick a random man to spend your life with."

"How is this random? The men at the matchmaking banquet are all from good families. Even if it’s just a date, I’m going to choose a good one."

"I’m going back to change clothes. You should also freshen up and get ready. See you in the evening."

After Jacob left, it wasn’t long before the servants came to tidy up the room.

After showering, Lily Green called her personal makeup artist and stylist over.

Her already curvaceous figure, dressed in a white alluring gown, was almost mesmerizing.

Her hair was all pinned up, paired with exquisite makeup, large earrings, and limited edition high heels.

The Lily Green of the past was back.

In the evening, Lily Green’s car arrived at the entrance of the entertainment center.

She got out of the car with her purse; feeling a bit cold, she quickened her pace.

Entering, she immediately saw Jacob Green sitting in the VIP area on the second floor.

"Well, Vice President Jacob is here too, welcome, welcome."

Lily Green smiled faintly and nodded, making her way through the crowd, up the steps to sit opposite Jacob Green.
