CHAPTER 27: CHAPTER 27: WON’T YOU SPEND TIME WITH ME?

"I’ll pay you more, six million a month."

"It’s indeed very tempting," Lucy Eaton answered, "but I have more important things to do."

"What about after you finish those things?"

She was a bit surprised, "Mr. Green, why do you still want to renew the contract with me? You can totally use that money to find a few new ones, fresh and young, and have even more fun, why not?"

"Compared to new, I prefer to use what I’m accustomed to, whether it’s things or people." His reasoning was also very sufficient.

"I’m afraid I’m going to disappoint you," Lucy Eaton told him clearly, "In the future, I have no intention of having any relationship with you anymore, regardless of the money offered, I’d rather you find someone else."

"Am I crazy?" he forcefully explained, "I’m having a break this afternoon and thought of this on the way."

"I see, I’m going to the gym now." she said as she stood up, and Jacob Green grabbed her wrist, "It’s the last day, won’t you stay with me properly?"

"How do you want me to accompany you?"

"Sit down and chat with me, that’s all."

Lucy Eaton obediently sat back down and reached out her hand to hold his.

Jacob Green’s hand was pale and slender, with distinct joints, and perhaps due to wearing less, it felt very cold.

"What do you want to talk about?"

"Talk about you, tell me about your biological family."

Lucy Eaton was originally reluctant to talk about those people, but she thought that she might not have the opportunity to chat like this in the future, so she felt like sharing.

"I was born into a rural family; I heard my mom died not long after I was born. My dad bought a house and remarried another woman, had a daughter, and left me with my grandparents. Growing up, I barely saw my dad; he didn’t come home often, so naturally, we rarely met. To him, I was better off non-existent; my dad probably least wanted me in his life. The deepest impression he left on me was when I was young, about six or seven years old. He brought that daughter back, and she took five yuan, said she wanted me to go buy something to eat with her. I took her, but later he found out we bought something to eat and beat me up. Turns out, that money was secretly taken by my half-sister; he didn’t blame her but blamed me for taking her to buy things. Since childhood, I knew I was destined not to have parental love. Facing the harsh treatment from grandparents, uncles, and aunts, all I wanted was to escape that small village."

"So, from a young age, I studied hard. By the time I graduated high school and received my medical university admission notice, I was elated, but that happiness didn’t last long. My grandparents, citing an inability to afford university fees, wanted me to quit, and without a sound, found me a marriage, accepting the bride price from the other party. I definitely refused, determined to go to school, leading to my grandparents claiming if I didn’t listen to them, I should never return home, and they wouldn’t provide university fees either."

"At that time, my friend James quit school to prepare for hairdressing, and he gave me his tuition first. Now it feels like my college days were busy every day, with no spare time, either working a job or on the way to class. I thought I’d tough it out, graduate, and become a doctor, but didn’t expect the professor of a required course to demand sexual favors. I refused and got a zero, hence naturally didn’t graduate. "A few days ago, James told me my grandpa’s leg was broken, hospitalized, and asked if I wanted to go see him. I resent my grandparents; they raised me like a dog, yet still fed me a meal, so I went and specifically withdrew money. Unexpectedly, outside the hospital ward door, I heard my grandpa cursing me and my mom. Turns out, my mom didn’t die; she ran off with a rich man shortly after I was born, and that wealthy man, for the sake of his reputation, gave my grandparents hush money..."

Upon speaking of this, she smiled at him, "This is my biological family, this is my childhood, these are my family."

"Your mom...did she ever visit you?"

"No, she probably doesn’t even know my name, because we’ve met, and she didn’t recognize me." Lucy Eaton spoke of this matter as casually as if it were someone else’s business, "Anyway, I’ve long accustomed myself to a life without family warmth; my previously led life my parents didn’t participate in, nor do they have the right or qualification to in the future."

Jacob Green felt that she was different from other women; throughout his life, he’s met all sorts of women.

Logically, someone with her background would have a strong craving for money.

She would continue to renew with him for money.

But she didn’t.

She is a woman who understands how to restrain greed, knowing how to cut her losses.

A woman like that seems to have weaknesses but is not easy to manipulate.

"Ever thought, one day, you’ll take revenge on them?"

"Do I need to think? I’ve thought about it tens of thousands of times." She didn’t shy away from discussing it, "But thinking is one thing, right now I don’t have that capability."

Jacob Green caught another message from her words, "Is it because you see no hope of marriage with me, so you’re ready to find another powerful man to marry?"

Aside from marrying an influential man, he couldn’t think of any other way she could gain that capability.

"I remember telling you, my husband doesn’t need to be exceptional, as long as he likes me, treats me well, and is loyal to me, that’s enough. Whether I see a hope of marriage with you is not important to me because, from start to finish, I never considered having a relationship with you beyond our transaction."
