After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 28: Longing
CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: LONGING
Lucy Eaton had a smile on her lips, "I will never marry a man who doesn’t love me, no matter how rich he is or how powerful. My husband can be a man with power and influence, but a man with power and influence doesn’t necessarily become my husband."
He believed what she said was true.
Because the message in her eyes was just so.
Jacob Green just felt troubled, especially when thinking about tomorrow night when he would return to living alone, without the warmth of her presence.
Perhaps contemplating this made him suddenly realize how precious this moment had become.
...
During dinner, he rarely drank two bottles of foreign wine with her.
Because the alcohol content was high, Lucy Eaton was completely drunk, while he was only slightly tipsy, maintaining sixty to seventy percent of his sobriety.
Jacob didn’t want to admit it, but he deliberately got her drunk under the guise of celebrating the end of their relationship.
Drunk Lucy Eaton had red cheeks and was quite adorable in her drunken antics.
She insisted on singing a song for him.
The song was a love song he had never heard before and sounded great.
"What’s this song called?"
"Megan."
"What kind of weird name is that?"
"It’s not a weird name; it’s Elijah Sheppard’s new song, very popular, spreading everywhere."
Jacob was skeptical. Elijah Sheppard was his friend, having debuted six years ago with one album a year.
He was not only familiar with Elijah’s work but could sing most of it flawlessly, yet he didn’t know of this song.
"Elijah never released this song. Maybe you got the name wrong?"
"Impossible to get it wrong!" She argued while hiccuping drunkenly, "It’s his song. Isn’t he your good friend? You don’t even know the name of his songs, your friendship must be fake!"
Her words caused Jacob to doubt himself.
Could he have remembered wrong?
Or had the song’s name been changed?
He quickly took out his phone to check Elijah’s online profile, examining it carefully to confirm he hadn’t made a mistake.
He even searched for the song name but found nothing.
Considering she was drunk and rambling nonsense.
Jacob didn’t think much more and carried her back to the bedroom.
"I want to sleep now."
"Good girl, wash up before sleeping."
She lightly pounded on his chest, "Jacob Green, you big meanie!"
He wondered what he had done now?
"How did I become a meanie in your eyes?"
"You’re a meanie, a jerk, a scumbag!"
Jacob: "..."
They say drunkenness reveals one’s true feelings; in her eyes, what kind of man was he?
Curious, he asked, "Then tell me what I’ve done to become a meanie?"
She wouldn’t say, took the toothpaste from him, and started brushing her teeth, focusing solely on that.
Barely standing, she quickly finished brushing, her eyes slightly closed, seemingly very tired.
"I’m asking you, tell me properly, what have I done that makes you think I’m a meanie?"
"You shouldn’t have married me. If my mind was unclear and I used the child to threaten you, you..." Her hands supported the sink, "How could you marry me because of what your grandparents said..."
Jacob paused his rinsing action, and his mind was overtaken by a single thought: alcohol is indeed treacherous.
See, a perfectly fine person starts losing their sanity after drinking...
"That child..." She suddenly became emotional and started crying, "That child hasn’t even come into this world, and was killed by Grace Hughes..."
Jacob put aside the toothbrush, wondering if she was having a hysterical reaction?
Seeing her crying so sadly, he hurriedly comforted her in a soft voice, "No more crying now, no more crying..."
Lucy Eaton not only didn’t stop but cried even louder, looking at him with tearful eyes full of questioning, "Jacob Green, Stellan Quinn wasn’t killed by me; she was stabbed to death by Grace Hughes’ men. Her death had nothing to do with me; why don’t you believe me? I had already planned to divorce you; I had prepared to give up my position to her, how could I have sent people to stab her, it was Grace Hughes who killed her, not me..."
Jacob listened to her words feeling both amused and angry, unable to understand how she fabricated this content?
"Lucy, you’re drunk..."
"I’m not drunk!" Lucy Eaton said, and her body nearly fell, luckily Jacob reacted quickly and caught her.
"Alright, alright, you’re not drunk, let’s go to sleep now."
He put his arm around her shoulder, guiding her out.
"Weren’t you tired? Come on, undress and sleep."
"I’m not sleeping."
"Why not sleep now?"
She started being a brat, "Not sleeping, not sleeping, just not sleeping."
Jacob had never seen this side of her in the past month, and tonight had been an eye-opener.
"Fine, since you’re not sleeping, what do you want to do?"
The tendency of alcohol had made her somewhat wild, causing Jacob’s body to tense up abruptly.
He slightly lifted his head and saw her little head just right.
"Lucy..."
She ignored everything, as if she had lost herself, continuing to stir until she eventually fell asleep from exhaustion.
Jacob didn’t dream that night, sleeping soundly until waking naturally.
The sky outside was already bright.
The edge of the bed was empty without a sign of her.
He reached out to touch the spot beside him; it was cold.
The mess on the floor had been tidied up.
Jacob sat up and glanced at the time.
It was seven o’clock.
There was no note on the bedside, and his phone had no messages either.
She left without a single word of farewell.
Jacob couldn’t describe what kind of feeling he had.
Only feeling very awful.
When he went downstairs to eat, he called Nathaniel Green, "When did Lucy leave?"
"At five in the morning."
"So early? Did you see her off?"
"I intended to, but Miss Eaton declined politely, saying it was easy to take a cab and wouldn’t trouble me."
Jacob picked up a fork to deliver food to his mouth, "She didn’t specifically say anything?"
"No."
"Alright, go to work."
Nathaniel nodded, "Okay."
Lucy Eaton left, and Jacob began to experience obvious discomfort.
This caused him to be unable to concentrate on work at the company throughout the morning, with her image constantly popping into his head.
Unlike him, after Lucy Eaton left Blossom Haven, she completely blocked Jacob Green’s name from her heart.
She was ready for no further interactions with him.
Similarly, she was prepared for a stop to this lifetime with him.
So, after dropping off her phone and few belongings at James Foster’s place, she headed to the Life-and-Death Trial Club.
James Foster didn’t know why she was traveling without a phone or contacting him.
But he supported her decision.
