After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 39: I Really Want to Beat You Up
CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 39: I REALLY WANT TO BEAT YOU UP
After saying this, he received a side-eye from Jacob Green.
Elijah Sheppard chuckled awkwardly, "Hurry up and get her already. I’m waiting to meet her for real."
"Why are you more anxious than me?"
"Do you even hear yourself? Am I more anxious than you?" Elijah said languidly, "I’ve known you for years, and I’ve never seen you mention a woman’s name so frequently. You spend half your time thinking about her, really rare. Luckily she’s coming back after four months. If it were four years, you’d go insane."
"I won’t say anymore, I’m going to sleep."
"Sleeping so early?"
"Recharging.
"..."
——
Next day, Lucy Eaton, Mia Townsend, and Robert Langley were informed by the nurse that they’ll be moved into the VIP multi-bed room.
Lucy called Nathaniel Green to confirm it was Jacob Green’s arrangement.
She didn’t protest much about the relocation, as the conditions were better, making it convenient.
Every day, the meals James Foster brought had different varieties. At first, Lucy didn’t find anything unusual. It wasn’t until she tasted the chef’s specialty from Blossom Haven that she realized the recent meals were indeed from there.
No wonder the taste was something she loved.
"James, seriously? Your elbow’s turning outward? Jacob asks you to bring food, you do it?"
"You found out... I was thinking if you didn’t realize it, I’d tell you in a few days myself."
Lucy contemplated cracking open his head to see if it was filled with paste, "I really feel like killing you."
James chuckled, "Lucy, he truly cares about you. Since you don’t let him contact you, he asked me to bring you food."
Beside her, Mia chimed in, "I think so too. Thanks to you, Robert and I also get to live in the VIP room and enjoy such delicious meals. Sister Lucy, these two weeks will go by quickly. You should really think about it. Honestly, I’m envious of you."
Lucy lightly smiled, "Envious of what? What’s there to envy about me?"
"Envious that Jacob can decide on his own to marry you. The Green Family has a distinguished status, really something ordinary people like us can’t reach. He knows very well his family will strongly oppose the marriage. The fact that he can say this means he truly likes you, even wanting to spend the rest of his life with you. Whether a man is serious or not, you can sense it yourself. This issue concerns your marital happiness, so think carefully, whatever decision you make, I support you."
Lucy was about to reply when her phone rang. She picked it up and saw it was Charles Sharp.
She pressed the answer key, "Hello, Mr. Sharp."
"Finally got in touch with you." For the past few months, Charles had tried calling her without success, "Why was your phone off for so long?"
"I was traveling, left the phone with a friend, just got back a couple of days ago."
"I see, Miss Eaton, can we meet?"
"Next week. I’m quite busy these few days."
Charles agreed, "Okay, coincidentally, next Friday is my birthday. I’m inviting you to celebrate."
"See you next Friday then."
After hanging up, Mia asked, "Who’s the caller?"
"Charles Sharp, the eldest grandson of the Sharp Clan. We have some personal dealings. He invited me to his birthday party next Friday."
"Can I go with you?!"
"Why would you go?"
James Foster winked at her, "For someone from a small village, it’s a chance to see the broader world, you’d understand. Plus, I can act as your bodyguard, protecting you, multitasking without costing a penny. Lucy, why not?"
Lucy couldn’t help but agree with his reasoning, "Then we should shop for new clothes and gifts these days."
Seeing her agree, James was thrilled, "Great, great, I’ll get some money later."
"I’ll buy for you, save your money for marrying a wife."
James was deeply touched, "My dear Lucy is truly considerate. I used to think, if you weren’t marrying and I remained unmarried, I’d marry you."
Lucy: "Get lost, get lost, get lost..."
...
Rested in the hospital until Wednesday, Lucy, who initially had minor injuries, recovered almost completely. She and James went to the shopping mall in the morning.
She picked out a branded suit and shoes for James, costing a few thousand bucks, which he loved, feeling the fabric repeatedly and endlessly praising it.
He said this was the most expensive outfit he’d ever worn since birth.
Lucy assured him more opportunities would come in the future, this was just the beginning.
She bought herself a pink low-neck evening dress and paired it with white high heels.
On Thursday, James gave her a new hairstyle, changing her long black straight hair to golden chestnut curls.
Charles Sharp’s birthday party consisted of acquaintances from various industries he’s close with.
It wasn’t large but definitely a heavyweight party.
At six in the afternoon, Lucy arrived at Charles Sharp’s mansion entrance together with James.
Handing the invitation to the staff at the gate, they walked inside shoulder-to-shoulder.
Quite a lot of people had already arrived, the atmosphere was lively.
Everyone was enjoying food and drinks by the fountain’s lawn. It was early spring, the lights outside were bright, everyone dressed in splendid apparel.
Anyone unaware might mistake it for a beauty contest.
Charles Sharp saw her and approached immediately.
"Mr. Sharp, happy birthday."
"Thank you for coming."
Lucy handed over the gift she was holding, "It’s something I selected. Not sure if it’s to your liking, have a look."
He opened the gift box to find only a piece of paper inside. He unfolded the paper where neat handwriting invited him to join the luxury friends package for only one dollar. "What are you waiting for? Now’s the time to act."
This was the first time Charles received such a birthday gift, fresh and full of creativity.
"Hold on for a moment."
He smiled, walked away briefly, then returned, extending his hand, palm slowly opened revealing a one-dollar coin. "I want to purchase this package."
Lucy pinched the one-dollar coin with a smile, then took another gift box from James’s hand, "This is another gift from me."
Inside was a new model tie from a certain brand.
"I really like it. You have good taste; both gifts are to my liking."
"Today I also have a gift for you."
"Me?" Lucy was taken aback, "It’s not even my birthday, why a gift?"
"To show gratitude, something I hope you’ll look forward to."
What he said piqued Lucy’s curiosity for real, "Then I shall wait with anticipation."
"Yes, the weather outside is much cooler, let’s go indoors?"
