After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 47: Buying Wedding Rings
CHAPTER 47: CHAPTER 47: BUYING WEDDING RINGS
"What’s wrong?"
"Robert Langley’s wife needs surgery. She has the money for treatment now, but she can only get an average doctor to perform the operation. Her condition is very severe, and if it’s not an expert-level surgeon, there’s a big risk she’ll die on the operating table. He wants me to ask if you know any specialists for her condition at the hospital."
"I’ll call the hospital director."
Just one phone call and problem solved easily.
Lucy Eaton suddenly felt that having a wealthy and powerful husband was convenient for anything.
She called Robert Langley back, and he was so happy he cried, thanking her sincerely.
She hung up the phone and sighed, "I hope his wife gets better soon. Robert is a real man; he went through life-and-death tests to raise money for his wife’s medical expenses. She truly married the right man."
"Reach out your hand."
She instinctively stretched out her left hand.
A diamond ring was slipped onto her ring finger.
Lucy’s eyes sparkled, "Did you go buy wedding rings?"
"Naturally. Do you like it?"
She raised her hand and looked it over, "I like it. It’s beautiful."
"If you like it, wear it every day."
"But we’re in a hidden marriage; can’t wear it every day. It’s fine to wear at home. In the future, when it’s no longer a secret, I’ll wear it whenever I want."
"We’re having dinner tonight to celebrate. Invite your good friends along."
"Already invited them."
——
In the evening, it started to rain lightly.
They arrived at the restaurant Elijah had booked, already a few minutes late due to traffic.
They drove two cars; Jacob drove one himself, Nathaniel Green drove the other with Lucy Eaton.
When they reached the place, Jacob walked ahead, Nathaniel and Lucy followed behind.
Entering the private room, they found Robert Langley there too. Lucy was surprised, "Weren’t you at the hospital with your wife? Why did you come too?"
"She asked me to come. She heard about your marriage and insisted I come to congratulate you, saying you’re too kind to us, always grateful to you."
"You’re too kind." Lucy Eaton pulled out a chair and sat down, "We’re just good friends; helping out is nothing."
"But to our family, it’s a great weight. Let me toast to you and Mr. Green, wishing you a long, happy marriage."
"I drove here today, can’t drink. I’ll use tea instead." Jacob poured a cup of tea and clinked glasses with him.
Lucy Eaton, not having to drive, poured herself half a glass of wine and clinked glasses with him.
"Jacob, I’ve grown up with Lucy, known her for over twenty years. I know her better than I know myself. She’s a good girl. She married you not because of your wealth or status but because she hopes for a chance at happiness. Don’t disappoint her expectations; please treat her well." James Foster rambled on as if he were marrying off his daughter, "She’s someone who reciprocates ten-fold for every bit of kindness, strong, independent, and opinionated. There are many beautiful and charming women in the world, but there’s only one Lucy Eaton. If you lose her, I guarantee another man would thank you greatly."
The last sentence was a warning, clear to anyone.
Jacob raised his glass, "Your words have touched my heart. I won’t let any other man have the chance to thank me for gaining her. Thank you for taking care of Lucy all these years."
The "ding-dong" sound of news headlines rang out, and Elijah Sheppard glanced at his phone before eagerly clicking in, "I told you you’d be on the news. Lucky I wasn’t with you, otherwise you can imagine the repercussions."
He handed his phone over to Jacob.
The headline read: Wedding Near! Jacob Green Spots Buying Diamond Rings at Jewelry Store!
Even the price of the diamond ring was exposed.
Jewelry store staff even revealed they were wedding rings, a pair.
This news was explosive.
Jacob glanced at it briefly, returned the phone to Elijah, and didn’t take it seriously.
"When we head back later, you and your wife need to be careful not to get photographed."
"No worries, Nathaniel can shield us."
Elijah smiled and patted Nathaniel Green on the shoulder, "Sorry for using you as a shield."
Nathaniel remained expressionless, "Serving Young Master and Young Madam is an honor."
"Unbelievable." Elijah laughed heartily, "Even the subordinates of the third of the Green family are brainwashed into loyalty."
Jacob said coolly, "Words from someone envious and resentful."
"..."
Before finishing the meal, the Green family’s call came, and Jacob didn’t avoid answering it in front of them. From his replies, Lucy guessed his family must be asking about the news, but he only said he’d discuss it when he returned.
Jacob left early, finishing up.
Upon leaving, they ran into Stellan Quinn and Grace Hughes coming out of the restaurant.
"Miss Eaton, you and Nathaniel were dining here too?"
Lucy smiled and nodded, "Yes, just gathering with friends."
"Saw the news today about Jacob Green buying diamond rings, is it true?" Grace asked curiously.
"Wasn’t it reported?" Lucy said, "It’s true."
"Who’s he marrying?"
"Not convenient to say." Lucy mused, "But the bride’s beautiful, has a great personality, tall, and fair-skinned. Really makes one envious Jacob could be with such an outstanding woman."
Nathaniel almost burst into laughter, holding back with difficulty.
Grace’s face turned slightly pale, "Really?"
"Who he marries has nothing to do with us," said Stellan with indifference, "He can marry whoever he pleases."
"Miss Eaton, haven’t you been on messaging apps lately? Sent you a few times with no reply."
"Haven’t logged on for months, sorry, I’ll check soon."
"That’s why."
"We’ll be off then."
Grace nodded, "Alright, take care."
Stellan watched Lucy’s departing figure and couldn’t resist saying, "Why are you probing into Jacob Green’s affairs?"
"Curiosity, casually asked, didn’t expect it to be true," Grace was simmering with frustration, "I really want to see what that woman is like!"
"What’s the use in seeing her?" Stellan sneered, "I think the bride’s not some high-profile daughter, or it wouldn’t have just been exposed now. If it were a match in status, it wouldn’t reach buying rings without media leaks. See, the Green family’s elders value family background."
"Stellan, don’t you feel unjust about it?" Grace encouraged fiercely, "Look at Jacob Green; he can easily find someone else, while you can only watch him marry a beautiful bride and live happily. And what about you? Your reputation is completely ruined. No good family will take you in now, all because of him. It was your mom who took those photos, not you, so why should he punish you so harshly?"
