At Riverside Medical Center, I had justpleted aplex arteriovenous malformation surgery. The procedure had taken four hours, but the patient’s werewolf healing abilities would ensure a full recovery.

Director Thompson approached me as I removed my surgical gloves. He was an old colleague of Director Eric

His words carried weight. Having allies in the medical field would be invaluable for my future independence.

After leaving the medical center, my phone buzzed with a text message from Nathan Sterling. My stomach tightened as I read his request to meet at a hotel’s Western restaurant.

The door suddenly burst open with explosive force.

Hugo Ashworth entered and immediately struck Nathan with a powerful punch, sending him crashing into

“Have you lost your mind?” Hugo roared, his usual calm demeanorpletely shattered.

Nathan struggled to his feet, blood trickling from his lip. “I wouldn’t actually touch her!”

“You think that matters?” Hugo’s voice was filled with unprecedented fury. “No one would believe your

innocence. Elena will only hate you more when she wakes up.”

Hugo’s eyes zed with protective rage. “You’re destroying her instead of helping her!”

Nathan’s face crumpled with the weight of his failed scheme. “I just wanted-”

“You wanted nothing but your own selfish desires,” Hugo cut him off coldly.

I awakened in a recovery room with Jane Porter at my bedside. The sterile smell of the healing facility filled

my nostrils.

“You’re awake,” Jane said with relief. “You were drugged with anesthetics.”

My head felt heavy as the memories came flooding back. “Nathan…”

I’m ending my unrequited attraction,” she said firmly. “Even if there were something between you and Hugo,

I’d only be jealous for a few days rather than truly angry.”

Before I could respond, a knock came at the door.
