Chapter 129: Confrontation and Protection
(Marcus ckwood’s POV)
Amber Stone approached me with concern etched across her face. “Alpha, are you alright?”
Hit another cigarette with my metal lighter, the me casting shadows across my features. The smoke helped calm my nerves after what I’d done to Nathan.
“I need you to investigate something,” I said, exhaling slowly. “Find out who Elena sold the ckthorne family
house to.”
Amber’s eyebrows rose slightly. “The family home?”
“I’m willing to pay a premium to buy it back,” I continued, my voice growing more determined. “Whatever it
takes.”
I couldn’t prevent what happened to Elena’s parents. But I could make amends for what I failed to protect.
“I want to extend David’s life and reim everything that rightfully belonged to the ckthorne family,” I
dered.
My resolve hardened as I spoke. If Elena wanted to live in her family home, I would move in with her. If those
greedy rtives continued causing trouble, I would handle them all.
The cigarette burned between my fingers as I stared out the window. Some things couldn’t be undone, but
others could still be made right.
(God’s POV)
At Shadowmere Medical Center, Jonathan Sterling and his mate Jade rushed through the corrido neir
son Nathan had been hospitalized after being beaten in Riverside City.
“Who did this to you?” Jonathan demanded, standing beside Nathan’s hospital bed.
Nathan’s face was swollen and bandaged. He initially remained silent, reluctant to reveal the truth.
“Tell me!” Jonathan’s voice grew sharper.
“Marcus ckwood,” Nathan finally admitted, his words barely audible.
The revtion caused visible tension in the room. Jade’s face went pale, her hands trembling slightly.
“The ckwood family,” she whispered, her voice filled with old pain.
Jonathan considered their options. “Perhaps I should speak with Margaret ckwood about this matter.”
“No!” Jade’s response was immediate and fierce. “I will never beg the ckwood family for anything.”
Their argument was interrupted by a knock at the door. Sophia Rivers entered, introducing herself with
practiced charm.
“I’m Nathan’s friend,” she said smoothly. “I heard about the incident.”

(Elena ckwood’s POV)
The next day, I returned to work at the healing institute. Jane greeted me with curious eyes.
“I thought you might be leaving to be a wealthy Luna,” she said teasingly. “That auction disy was
quite impressive.”
I shook my head firmly. “I have no intention of re–mating or quitting my job.”
“But all that wealth-” Jane began.
“Marcus’s wealth isn’t mine,” I interrupted. “I want to maintain my independence.”
Our conversation was suddenly disrupted by an elegantly dressed middle–aged she–wolf storming toward us.
Her expensive clothes and jewelry marked her as someone from high society.
“Who is Elena ckwood?” she demanded, her voice cutting through the healing station’s quiet atmosphere.
I stepped forward cautiously. “I am.”
The woman’s eyes zed with fury as she studied my face. “You’re the root cause of everything!”
“I’m sorry, but who are you?” I asked, confused by her hostility.
“I’m Jade Sterling, Nathan’s mother,” she spat. “My son is hospitalized because of you!”
I tried to step back, but she grabbed my arm roughly. “Did your mother never teach you how to b
properly around mated males?”
The mention of my mother sent a sharp pain through my chest. “My mother is dead.”
Jade’s grip loosened momentarily, but her anger only intensified. “That exins yourck of proper
upbringing!”
In a fit of rage, she grabbed a used blood bag from a passing nurse’s medical cart. She hurled it directly at
me with vicious intent.
Suddenly, Hugo Ashworth appeared and shielded me from the impact. The blood bag struck his white coat,
staining it crimson.
Hugo’s face turned livid with disgust. His severe germaphobia made the contamination unbearable.
“This is a healing institute, not a ce for your tantrums,” he said sternly to Jade. “Direct your anger toward
the ckwood family instead.”
Jade recognized Hugo and stepped back reluctantly. “Professor Ashworth, I didn’t realize-b” /b
“Remember this encounter,” she warned me before leaving. “This isn’t over.”

Dr. Edmond Fisher arrived with clean clothes, grinning at his colleague’s predicament.
“Moving your heart for someone, are we?” Edmond teased yfully.
Just then, Elena entered to check on Hugo. She witnessed their interaction and quickly retreated in
embarrassment, misunderstanding the situation.
Dr. Mitchell chased after her to rify. “We’re not in a romantic rtionship!”
Later, when Elena thanked Hugo for protecting her, he imed nonchntly, “I didn’t deliberately shield you. I
simply couldn’t stop in time.”
She offered gratefully, “Let me treat you to dinner as thanks.”
Hugo’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Wait until you’re divorced.”
He added with dark humor, “I don’t want to end up like Nathan with my head cracked open.”
