CHAPTER 67: I DID THAT?

"I’m going crazy here!"

Ian let himself go lax and slammed back on his bed, his eyes glued to the ceiling while he tried to make some sense of the information he had heard from Shelby.

A soft sigh told him that Currey was back, and without looking, Ian knew that he would be standing somewhere in there like a miliary man of a sort.

"Is what she said true?... There is no need to answer. It’s a stupid question. I know she would not lie to me.... Wait! How do I know this? Ahhhh! What is going on?"

Currey smiled faintly at this. He noted that Ian was worrying about someone else, and he was not mopping around anymore. He looked distressed and confused, trying to make sense of what his memories were telling him vs what he had heard, making him a bit outlandish.

"Let’s go over the facts again...."

’How many times is he going to do this?’ Currey thought and let his mind wonder around so that he did not have to listen to Ian on this anymore.

"I told her my name when it was not otherwise needed, then, I supposedly sliced our hands... which sounds even more absurd! Then, no man can touch her and then now, I can’t stop thinking about her... I made out with her and ..."

At the thought of their oral sex session, Ian felt a sense of shame and embarrassment wash over him.

"Maybe it’s because I have not had any sexual relations for a while.... Yes, that is it!" He reasoned with himself as he thought of the scene where Shelby had naughtily put his hardened member in his mouth.

"Pfft! Haha!"

Currey held his mouth to stop the laughter that came out belatedly.

Ian sat up and glared at the man. A cold, eerie stare that made Currey shut up instantaneously, and his face go back to being passive.

Ian felt a sense of frustration build up in him.

This time, he did not say his sentiments out loud but just ran the thoughts in his head, ’How could I have cum with just a touch of her mouth? She did not even do anything! Ian, how could you? It was like a one-touch cum! How embarrassing!’

Ian forcibly dragged his thoughts from that one embarrassing moment with his new wife because he could not fathom what her thoughts about him then would be.

’She probably thinks that I am no good in bed...’

"What the heck, Ian? Snap out of it!" His unexpected shout made Currey look over at him once more.

Ian sighed and then asked himself the question that had been nagging him at the back of his mind,

’Why did I love Aliya again?’ One may think that this was a ridiculous question considering how Ian had isolated himself from the world after her death, but to Ian, at that moment, Aliya then felt like a long, sweet dream he had had, and that terrified him!

It was obvious that people could outgrow crushes and obsessions, but that did not happen as spontaneously as his had.

His sentiments, feelings and thoughts about Shelby were at a point where he already missed her. It had been barely half an hour since Shelby had left his room, and he could not grasp his thoughts of her back.

On one hand, he felt sane after she had left the room. This was because all throughout the time Shelby had been there, his mind visited scenes of passionate lovemaking, making it hard for him to concentrate on anything. He had barely managed to curb his thoughts when she had gotten angry.

But the saneness was now making way for the onset of his insanity! Ian missed her to the point of going crazy! And for the first time in a very long time, Ian wanted to go out of his room to see this girl who now occupied his every thought. His feelings for Shelby felt like a long-lost love who had left for ages instead of the span of a few minutes. As absurd as that sounded, that was Ian’s state.

He sat up and took Aliya’s picture from his nightstand. He looked at the smiling girl and then ran his hands on the frame, barely avoiding a small, jagged, broken glass that had been left on it that night he had smashed it. He turned the picture face down on the nightstand without even realizing it.

Thinking back to that night again, he only remembered a rage like never before, a frustration so immense that he had to let it out, screaming like a wounded animal. Not that it had done him any good then.

Turning to Currey, who was as immobile as a statue, he asked with all seriousness,

"What happened that night? Did it have something to do with her?"

Currey only hesitated momentarily, and knowing exactly which night Ian had asked for, he recounted the events.

"Your Highn- , I mean Chairman, are you okay?"

Currey inquired after Ian sat immobile on the bed, making no indication that he had heard the recount of that night. Rather, he said,

"Let’s check her origin!"

"You mean..."

"Yes!" Ian replied coldly and then got up from the bed. His towering, thick, muscled frame made Currey look like a lanky teenage boy beside him.

Currey hurried up and preceded Ian to open up one of the closed doors, which led to a rather big walk-in closet. In there, he walked up to one of the panels and pushed it.

For a moment, all was silent until a slight squeak sounded as a panel was slid back, opening up the wall into what looked like another larger room.

He stepped in, and Ian followed, his face showing no surprise at that inner room.

Ian stood in the middle of this room, and a sense of nostalgia rushed over him.

’Am I getting sentimental too?’

He shook his head and turned to Currey, who had tapped a keyboard to bring a computer to life.

The room was littered with larger computer monitors on the walls on one side. The other side had many books lining the wall from floor to ceiling.

Ian approached one of the monitors and started rubbing his thick beard thoughtfully.

Currey’s hands flew over the keyboard, and then, in a moment, Shelby’s smiling face appeared on one of the screens. The other screens lit up with more information, one after the other, all of her. Ian walked slowly along the length of the computer screens, taking in the information of his new wife. There wasn’t much to see about her anyway.

Currey paused and said,

"You know, Chairman, the beauty and charm of Miss Shelby is beyond the ordinary. She is even comparable to the people over there. What do I mean by comparable? She can surpass most of them! Even I am affected by this strange beauty of hers, and you know that there is yet to be a person who can affect me in that way, considering...."

Ian raised his hand, and Currey shut up, knowing full well that his message had been communicated.

"Simple and naïve mother, unknown father as well. There is nothing out of the ordinary about her, too, so why..."

"This is the information on her stepfather..."

Currey said, swiping his hand over the tabletop to bring up all the details of James.

Ian lifted the corner of his mouth and said under his breath,

"So, this is the duchebag that wanted to lay his hands on his own daughter?"

Currey felt a sense of satisfaction at Ian’s anger and brought up more of the information.

If they really wanted to do something to James Wendover, it would be easy-peasy for them because he was a walking timebomb in relation to scandals and whatnot.

Currey watched on as Ian took in the information, and then he saved it in a file under his watchful gaze.

"Get up!"

"Huh?"

Even with this abrupt response, Currey understood what he meant, and soon, his seat was occupied by Ian. Ian cracked out his knuckles, and his fingers hovered over the keyboard a bit before he opened up a secure portal.

"Are you really sure you do not know what is linking me to her?" He paused and asked.

Ian took Currey’s silence as a yes.

"What of that night in the park? Were you not there?"

"I’m sorry, Chairman, I really cannot tell you much about these. It was all you, and for this, you will have to figure it out yourself."

Left with no option, he stared meaningfully at his glowing ’ring’. Ian only hesitated a little more before he entered some credentials. His demeanour showed one who did not want to do what he was doing but had to. He knew that he would find out the information he needed there, but the price he had to pay...

Currey’s eyes widened in surprise as Ian brought up the details about things that Currey never knew Ian would search for.
