Chapter 821 Underestimated

    Truman’s POV:

    She’s testing me on purpose.

I was trying to help her, but instead, she wanted to dig up my past secrets. So wicked.

But that’s just who she is–fun and unpredictable. Back then, she didn’t want to marry into my family, so she disguised herself as a weak Omega and even made herself look ugly. Who else woulde up with something that crazy?

And wasn’t that exactly what made me fall for her?

I gave her a fond smile and switched the topic. “I already told Mr. Atkinson you’re with me. You don’t need to join the chess simultaneous exhibition.”

“You might need to go back and tell him again,” Hayley said, her tone yful. “I’m interested in chess. I’m going to y.”

My brow arched. “You know chess?”

She shrugged. “It’s just a board game with ck and white pieces, right?” Her voice carried that Alpha–level confidence she always had.

I leaned closer. “And what else do you know?”

“Isn’t that enough?” Her eyes narrowed dangerously. Then she added in a mock–threatening tone, “So are you going to tell him? If not, I’ll just sign myself up.”

I sighed, half–helpless, half–amused. After a pause, I gave in. “Fine. If you’re really interested, then y. With me here, no one will dare stop

you. But stay put, don’t wander.”

“Okay.” Hayley’s bright smile made my heart skip.

I was the Alpha of two powerful packs. I’d always prided myself on being in control of my emotions. But with Hayley, my emotions shifted too easily.

I kept watching her, lingering too long, until I realized I was wasting time. Reluctantly, I pulled my gaze away and hurried off.

    Hayley’s POV:

I couldn’t help but grin as I watched Truman retreat in such a rush.

He wasn’t a bad guy, but today I had my own n.

I came here to embarrass him. The more I could humiliate Truman, the better. If I could push him to the edge, maybe he’d finally give up trying to make me his Luna. Maybe he’d stop chasing me altogether.

I crossed my arms, already thinking about the chess exhibition. How could I lose in a way that would shock everyone–and make Truman look bad at the same time?

    But I underestimated myself.

While I was still plotting, people kepting up to me one after another, slipping their business cards into my hands before leaving. In no time, my arms were stuffed with cards.

That’s the problem with having a face and figure like mine. People only saw my looks. They didn’t care about the rumor that I was just a “low- ranking Omega.”

Disgusted, I crumpled the cards, ready to toss them all. That’s when three or four women, with heavy makeup and smug expressions, walked over.

The one in front wore a white dress. She lifted her chin high, eyes sharp with arrogance. “Ms. Sander, we meet again. Do you remember me?”

I went through my memories, but I don’t recall ever having interacted with this person.

“Sorry,” I said politely. “There were too many people at the weing party that night. My memory isn’t great. How should I address you?”

She’d called me Ms. Sander, which meant we must have met at the Sanders‘ Residence.

Her lips curved into a sly smile. She tossed her long hair back, making sure I noticed the glittering jewelry on her wrist and neck.

“My name is Monica Rowan. I’m Benjamin’s cousin. I’ve seen you at Midnight Pack several times.”

As she spoke, she proudly ced her hand over her chest, deliberately shing a massive diamond ring.

    I nodded casually.

She said she was Benjamin’s cousin, but I’d spent plenty of time in Midnight Pack and never paid attention to her. Clearly, she wasn’t very close to the Southwells.

Still, from the way she carried herself, she wasn’t here with good intentions.
