Chapter 832 Finding Another Mr Lewis.
Hayley’s POV:
I kept a serious tone as I said, “I’ll be direct with you. We’re currently investigating the disappearance of a scientist.

“These past three years, brilliant minds from packs across the continent have vanished without a trace. We believe these unusually colored gems may be connected to those cases.
“The gem in your possession was among the first to surface. Its origin could be critical. For the safety of all our kind, I hope you can help us piece this together.”
Rufus studied me, surprised. “Are you with the authorities?”
“Not officially,” I admitted. “But my family and my partner have been deeply affected by these gems. I owe it to them to find the truth.”
He nodded slowly, expression turning thoughtful and noticeably softer.
I shifted my approach. “Perhaps you could simply tell us–did the gem originate locally, or was it acquired elsewhere?”
Rufus fell silent for a long moment. He removed his sses, polishing them carefully before speaking. “I purchased it from a physics professor with the surname Lewis.
“Even now, gems like these are extremely rare. But at the time, he asked only a hundred thousand. I was concerned he might reconsider, so I wrote him a check for a million. That settled it.”
My pulse quickened. “Lewis? A professor? Was it Tom Lewis?”
If it was him, so many pieces would finally click into ce.
“I’m not sure,” Rufus admitted, adjusting his sses as he met my gaze seriously. “I only knew hisst name was Lewis, and that he was a high–ranking werewolf. How old is this Tom Lewis you just mentioned?”
“Probably in his 30s or 40s. He is also a high–ranking werewolf,” I said, though the details were hazy in my memory.
“Then it’s not him,” Rufus stated with certainty. “The man I dealt with was around my age. He was a high–ranking werewolf too, but he could easily have been the father of Tom Lewis.”
He paused, then added, “That gem was my pride and joy. It’s so precious to me. If I ever see that man again, I’ll recognize him instantly.”

“Thank you, Mr. Covington. Truly. On behalf of my family and those missing scientistsb, /bbI’m /bgrateful for your help,” I said sincerely, my voice steady.
“Please, there’s no need for that!” He quickly waved me off. “This is for the greater good. bAs /bba /bmember of the pack, it’s my duty to contribute to everyone’s safety. No thanks are necessaryb. /b
I nodded, relief washing over me. We exchanged contact information before parting waysb. /b
Truman lingered beside me, watching Rufus’s retreating figure. “Now that we know the gem came from a scientist, your investigation is heading in the right direction,” he said quietly, more to himself than to me.
“If we can find that older Mr. Lewis, things should be much clearer …

“Honestly, I’m curious too,” he continued. “If someone knew how valuable that gem was, why sell it for just a hundred grand?”
“That’s exactly what I need to figure out next,” I said, my tone grim. “We’ve only scratched the surface. There’s a long road ahead before we uncover the whole truth.”
I pushed aside my worries and turned to Truman, sincerity softening my words. “But, I really must thank you today. You helped me confirm a major lead.”
Even though his smirk sometimes made me want to roll my eyes, credit’s credit. But that doesn’t mean I was thrilled to admit it.
Truman suddenly raised a finger to his lips, that familiar smug glint in his eyes. “I have a feeling you’ll have plenty more reasons to thank me in the future. How about we make a deal about it?”
“What?” I frowned at him.
“How about swapping that ‘thank you‘ for ‘I hope we meet again“?”
