The bnews /bbof /bFerris’s car ident resulting in blindness couldn’t be hidden for long. A few dayster, major media outlets reported it one after another.
Silver Moon pack remained stable under Ferris’s subordinates‘ control withot any major disturbancesb, /bbut Vargan Group’s stock plummeted.
For a while, people were in panic.
Chandler, despite his advanced age, had no choice but toe forward to take bcharge /bof the situation.
When Cynthia arrived, I was cutting fruit.
She sat on the sofa, looking at the scrolling headlines on the TV news, and sigh: “I never would have imagined that just a few days ago he was 30 spirited, and now he’s be blind. What will Silver Moon Pack do nextb?/bb” /b
I didn’t respond, just ced the fruit in front of her.
“Cynthia, how is the progress on
refiling for divorce that I asked you to handle?”
Her expression immediately changed, and she hesitated for a long while before speaking: “Aurora… I’m sorry.”
My hand paused. “What happened?”
“Your divorce from Ferris caused such a big stir and made the news a few days ago. My father saw it.” She sighed. “Ever since he found out I get a job, he’s been trying to force me to marry into a noble family… This time he simply had someone revoke mywyer’s license directly.”
I was stunned.
“How could he do that?”
Cynthia smiled bitterly: “You think that’s harsh? He wishes he could package me up and send me over right now. For him, this kind of method is considered mild.”
I knew her family had risen through real estate, and what nouveau riche families feared most was falling back into poverty.
Her father had suffered greatly in his youth, so what he valued most now was stability“-he didn’t care if his daughter was happy, only that she married securely into the wealthy elite, never returning to those days of having no status, no money, and no respect.
“So what are you nning to do now?” I asked.
She blinked, smiling somewhat defiantly: “I found another job. The sry isn’t much for now, but if I’m frugal, it’s enough.”
She didn’t want topromise.
I felt sorry for her, but also knew that saying more wouldn’t help.
“If you need me to step in or help you handle anything, just tell me.”
“Alright.” A hint of moisture shed in her eyes, but she didn’t let it fall.
I was just about to suggest a newwyer for her when, before she could speak my phone rang.
I answered–it was Victoria.
“Ferris asked me to tell you that you don’t need to file for divorce anymore. He agrees. Tomorrow at ten o’clock, see you in court.”
Her tone was as arrogant and decisive as always. After speaking, she hung up
I was stunned for a moment.

bFerris /bbhad /bbactually /bbagreed/b.
bI /bbput /bdown bthe /bphone and told Cynthia about this.
Her beyes /bwidened: “Did losing his memory change bhis /bpersonality?”
b“/bbHis /bpersonality has indeed… changed somewhat,” I said quietly.
Images shed through my mind again of him at the hospital, holding my hand and hoarsely begging me not to leave, calling me “bbaby/b.b” /b
His voice had been deep then, his fingertips trembling slightly, each “baby” like ashes falling on my heart, burning painfully.
I quickly shook my head, driving those images from my mind.
The next morning, I got up very early.
I barely ate breakfast, but still methodically prepared myself, yering one piece of clothing after another, wrapping myself in a heavy coat before going out.
Dane was waiting for me downstairs. He opened the car door for me, I got in, and we rode in silence the entire way.
When we arrived at the courthouse, we were still half an hour early.
I thought Ferris hadn’t arrived yet and nned to go in and wait first.
But as soon as I walked into the lobby, I immediately saw him sitting in the divorce processing area.
He wore a dark coat, sunsses covering his eyes, sitting straight with his silhouette like a knife–carved line.
His presence was particrly conspicuous.
Not because of his clothing or appearance, but because of that invisible, innate aloofness and intimidating aura that made everyone else waiting around seem insignificant.
I stood at the entrance watching him for a while. Just as I was about to walk bover/bb, /bbI /bsaw Simon approaching from the side, carrying a cup of hot water
He handed the water to Ferris’s side: “Ferris, have some water.”
“What time is it?” Ferris didn’t take the water, but suddenly asked instead.
Simon was about to look at his watch when he caught sight of me in his peripheral vision.
He paused for a moment, acting as if he hadn’t seen anything, and answered quietly: “Nine thirty–three.”
I didn’t move.
But Ferris seemed to sense something. His head tilted slightly in my direction.
