ALPHA’S REGRET: FALSE MATE, TRUE LUNA
TRUE 307
Dennis had finally waited for me to ask this question. His thin lips parted slightly: “Aurora, you visited the Vargan family when you were very young. Did you ever hear that the Vargan family had twins?”
I shook my head.
If I had known early on that Ferris had a twin brother, I would have suspected whether I had fallen in love with the wrong person.
But sinceing to Silver Moon Pack, I had never heard anyone mention that erris was a twin.
“Because I was seriously ill from birth – I couldn’t bear cold or sunlight. When was small, I spent almost all my time in the intensive care unit. My family once thought I wouldn’t live long.”
He paused, a faint darkness flickering in his eyes.
“So they never mentioned me to outsiders.
Later, when my condition improved slightly, I returned to the Vargan family, but I was still very weak and had almost no contact with the outs world… except for you, of course.”
My heart trembled slightly.
“The reason I told you I was my brother Ferris was first because I was afraid you’d dislike me for being sick, and second – the Vargan family didn’t want a useless person appearing in the public eye.”
I listened quietly until he finished speaking, then realized – so he had carried such burdens.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know these things… I didn’t deliberately avoid seeing you or pretend not to recognize you. I just… didn’t know how to face you or what to say when I met you.”
I took a breath, my eyes starting to sting.
“I always remembered how you helped me and kept mepany when we were children… I remember all of that.”
Tears welled up in my eyes and rolled down the next second.
I suddenly felt like such a bastard – just because of some misunderstandings and practical concerns, I had distanced myself from the person who had once cherished me like a brother.
He raised his hand, wanting to wipe away my tears.
I instinctively turned my face away, and his hand froze in midair.
“Do you… still remember our promise?” His voice grew low.
I looked up at him, feeling like my heart was being pricked by a needle.
“Do you remember that you promised to wait for me to return and marry me? Dennis asked word by word.
My whole body stiffened, and my face instantly paled.
At that time, to save him, I had been stabbed.
He held me, his voice trembling terribly: “Wait for me. When Ie back, well get married.”
That knife scar was still on my back.
It was precisely because he had said those words that I had married Ferris without hesitation – only to discover it had all been a huge misunderstanding.

bI’m /bbalready /bbmarried/bb, /bas you know.” I clenched my hands, my fingertips digging deep into my palms.
“And you’re about to get engaged now… Let’s forget about our promiseb./b”
bDennis’s /bthroat seemed blocked: “As long as you’re willing. I’ll call off the engagement immediately.”
His meaning was crystal clear – he had agreed to marry Helena partly for Victoria, partly to see my attitude.
Now he was forcing me to make a choice.
Without much thought, I blurted out: “I’m sorry.”
Even if I divorced Ferris, I wouldn’t marry Dennis.
I was no longer the person bI /bused to be, and I was already pregnant.
Moreover, I wasn’t worthy of who he had be.
Dennis obviously hadn’t expected me to refuse so quickly. He asked unwillingly: “Aurora, do you have other concerns?”
“I’ll handle my brother’s situation. I’ll make him divorce you and arrange for someone to take care of him.”
I just remained silent.
He smiled bitterly: “If it weren’t for him, the person you married… should have been me.”
If he had returned earlier, in the three years before I married Ferris, I would have agreed without hesitation.
But now, everything had changed.
“I’m sorry.” I said quietly.
I pushed open the car door, preparing to leave.
In the next second, he pulled me into his arms – at that moment, I heard the chaotic sound of my own heartbeat.
