CHAPTER 483: EVOLVED WATCH 2.0

Sera stepped out of the lounge room into an empty corridor. The Old Dawn was a strange vessel. From its structure, Sera easily identified it as a ship, yet while standing inside, she couldn’t feel the waves crashing at its outer sides.

The ship stood still. Only faint vibrations moved through the metal surfaces, coming from the giant generator room, which powered the vessel.

The Angel closed the door and leaned against the wall beside it. She took deep, uncomfortable breaths. Sweat ran down her sickly pale cheeks, and the veins in her golden-green eyes became more prominent.

The bloodlust was getting worse. She needed to find the man Faith reported about in Australia, or she needed to kill monsters and appease the Seed of Madness. Either way, she couldn’t stay any longer.

She gathered strength and stepped away from the wall just as the lounge door opened, revealing a familiar, magnificent woman. Her lips stretched into a smirk, while her greenish-gold eyes revealed considerable worry.

"It’s affecting you again, isn’t it? The bloodlust. That’s why you asked the Professor to hurry. You wanted as much information for this upcoming journey, which you planned to embark on alone!"

Bea narrowed her eyes and stared at her ex with disapproval, like a mother catching her daughter trying to sneak out to party.

Sera rolled her eyes and walked to the opposite wall. She leaned against it and smiled at Bea. A wide, knowing smile, full of hope and sincerity.

"Alone? Why would I go alone? Firstly, Faith is always in my shadow, even if I send her away. You know how uncomfortable it’s to take a crap while you know someone’s watching you?"

As the words left Sera’s mouth, her shadow became tangible, and Faith appeared inside her... Literally inside her...

The darkness surrounded Sera’s body, making her feel sticky, while Faith’s pale-faced, black-haired head grew out of the Angel’s shoulder. Bea chuckled at the strange sight, while Sera sighed and flicked her Shadow’s forehead.

Faith smiled with satisfaction and left Sera’s body. However, she didn’t venture back into her shadow, since she knew what her Goddess would ask next.

"Faith, your main body will stay here, in case they need help. You can continue your spying on me using your Fake-Self. If I need help, you can inform everybody and come after me! Understood?"

The Shadow bowed deep from the waist, then stepped back into the darkness without saying a word. Sera chuckled and shook her head, then turned back towards Bea, who curiously awaited her next words.

"Secondly, I wanted us to travel to Australia as a family. However, that would endanger little Nick. Also, Vicky and Henry are both busy with the relocation of Rome’s citizens... That leaves..."

A small, mischievous grin grew on Sera’s face as she took a few steps towards Bea. She leaned close and whispered in her ear with an alluring, seductive voice.

"That only leaves... Us!"

A shiver ran down Bea’s spine as a warm, fuzzy feeling appeared in her heart. She took a deep whiff of Sera’s scent. Even after lying still for four days, she smelled flawless, like a field of flowers mixed with petrichor.

The magnificent woman blinked to strengthen her sense of smell, but she only received the faint memory of Sera’s scent. Bea’s eyes snapped open, revealing Sera’s grinning expression as she leaned against the wall.

Bea rolled her eyes, trying to act annoyed and careless, but she simply couldn’t wipe the joyful smile off her face.

"Fine. We can go together. However, we’ll take Kastral and Alyrine too, since we were pretty negligent with them. They’re our mounts, yet we barely use them for anything. They must feel pretty useless."

Sera chuckled upon hearing Bea’s request. She already knew how annoyed Kastral’ll be. He and his partner would feel perfectly happy staying in safety and increasing the number of hippogryphs. However, Sera doesn’t want her lazy mount to have all the fun while she suffers!

’Hey, Kastral! I’ve good news! We’re going on a vacation! Inform your wife since Bea’s coming with us too!’

Moments after Sera sent the mental message, a loud, annoyed groan echoed inside her head...

’Can’t you ask Faith or Vicky to take you? I have better things to do than...’ Before he could’ve finished the sentence, Sera cut in. ’Than act as my mount? Come on, you lazy hippogryph! Let’s go on an adventure!’

Kastral’s sigh echoed, and he continued making excuses, but Sera stopped answering his demands. Eventually, he got the message and stopped spamming her mind.

The Angel smiled widely and turned towards Bea, who chuckled nearby while talking with Alyrine...

"It seems you really pissed off Kastral. He immediately began complaining to Alyrine. She’ll try to appease him, so will leave in ten or fifteen minutes."

Sera raised an eyebrow. "How will she appease him?" Bea just winked as an answer, but Sera perfectly understood her meaning. "I hope Kastral won’t impregnate her while we’re in Australia. That would be quite awkward."

They both laughed and began walking down the corridor. However, they had barely taken a few steps before the lounge room door snapped open and a small brunette woman stumbled outside in a hurry.

Mary took a few deep breaths. She hadn’t run without her armor for years, and her body disagreed with the sudden attempt at exercising.

She supported herself with one hand on the wall while adjusting her glasses with the other. Gradually, she straightened, her blue eyes staring at Sera with excitement.

Her lips stretched into a wide grin as she reached into her lab coat’s pocket and pulled out a small, fancy box. She handed the box to Sera while explaining...

"Faith informed us about everything, and I nearly forgot to give this to you. Consider it a present for your return. I’m sure it’ll serve you well, and answer many of your pending questions!"

Sera wasn’t sure how to react. She didn’t expect to receive any gifts, but both Mary and Bea looked excited, which intrigued the Angel.

Tenderly, she removed the box’s top, revealing a strange silver object, similar to a bracelet. She reached in with a confused expression, the moment her hand touched the bracelet’s surface, a holo-interface popped out.

The light blue screen showed lines of text, which kept changing every second:

’New User Detected... Downloading data from cloud... Separating information... Using only base data points... Formatting...’

The text disappeared for a moment, then a strange message appeared:

’Good Day, Seraphine! Your Evolved Watch 2.0 is ready to use!’

Sera lifted the silvery bracelet, which was supposedly a watch. Her eyes glanced at it in confusion until her mouth fell open in shock. She felt a tiny metal fragment react to her presence deep within the bracelet’s inner structure.

"When you told us two years ago that using our old watches was dangerous and misleading, we needed something to replace them. Those watches served as wide pools of information and tools for communication. They were especially useful for new Evolved."

Mary pulled back her lab coat, revealing the exact same silvery bracelet. Bea also showed off her wrist, with a similar object, albeit hers had green vines entangled on it.

"Before leaving, you left those giant walls of Angelic Metal, so I’ve taken the liberty of testing their properties. After a few weeks, I found out they could transfer and hold information, similar to the crystals that fell from the sky after the Apocalypse."

Sera’s eyes went even wider after hearing that. She could control and change the properties of Angelic Metal, yet she would’ve never imagined the power hidden deep within its structure.

"A small fragment powers the watch, and I let Maya design the interface. She did an amazing job, and even Vicky made a few suggestions, which led to this device’s birth... The Evolved Watch 2.0!"

The Angel’s excitement reached its peak, and she couldn’t wait any longer. She put the watch on her left wrist and brought up the holo-screen.

The interface showed a wide selection of applications to open: Options & Design Features, Communication, Archive, etc. There were even games and entertainment, which wasn’t too surprising since Maya designed it.

She still remembered her first meeting with that strange girl. She was reprogramming her own watch so she could play games on it, while Frank made explosives nearby.

Both Maya and Frank retired after the war. They worked under Mary and James, helping the scientists and researchers wherever they could.

After reminiscing for a moment, Sera turned back towards the holo-screen and selected a special option, only available for Evolved... Status Window...

It loaded for a few seconds, but soon a familiar, yet different interface appeared before Sera’s eyes...

’Name: Seraphine

There was a lot of new information, and Sera wanted to spend time reading through everything. However, before she could open anything else, a much less grumpy male voice echoed inside her mind.

’Okay, we’re ready to leave whenever you are!’

Sera laughed at how different Kastral’s tone was. She turned off the watch and turned back towards Mary.

"Thank you, and good job making this watch! While we’re in Australia, could you bring the other Antarctican and South American city-states under the Aegis System? You should also make a few more generators, in case we can bring Asia under our fold!"

With that, Sera and Bea walked away while waving goodbye to Mary.
