CHAPTER 559: GOD OF THE SEA AND THE LEVIATHAN

"Ladies, gentlemen and everything in-between! Today’s water-based fights will end soon! However, there’s still one last fight left! The most anticipated one of the day!" said the female announcer with her usual bravado.

The bleachers screamed their excitement, causing the female announcer to turn silent. An entire minute passed before the male announcer could begin the introduction of the fighters.

Will stood on the water, wearing his dark blue, fish-like scale armor glinting with dark green colors. His short dark blue hair gently danced in the sea breeze, while he scratched his short, well-groomed beard.

His dark blue eyes stared ahead at his opponent as an anticipatory grin spread across his face. The drones first locked in on the other fighter, as the announcer introduced him before Will.

"In one corner stands a powerful being of the Greek Pantheon! The God of the Sea! The Eath-Shaker! The God of Storms! Poseidon!"

Strangely after the overenthusiastic introduction, the Colosseum fell into silence. Only a few polite claps echoed through the massive structure... It seemed that literally nobody liked Poseidon...

Since he didn’t need to wait for the cheers to die down, the male announcer continued with the introduction of Will.

The tall, powerful figure of Poseidon ground his teeth in annoyance and hatred. The light breeze pushed his long, curly dark blue hair into his face, while his thick beard created a rugged look.

The primordial god’s sea-green eyes glinted with violence as the announcer’s voice echoed across the arena.

"In the other corner, stands a man of great renown! The Dread of the Ocean! The Conqueror of Eternal Depth! The Endless Tide! The Empowering Wave! The Leviathan!"

Will couldn’t help but chuckle at the horrible titles they made up. If he had to guess, then his partner, Lucy, made up most. She always loved these stupid nicknames...

"Knowing them, Leslie and Sarah probably helped too... It feels like something they would do..." he mumbled to himself, while the crowd burst into loud screams which shook the arena.

The disparity in cheers made Will laugh again, while Poseidon looked moments away from exploding with rage...

"His temper seems barely manageable... I can probably deal with him without either of your help..." Will whispered to the greenish-gold gemstone imbedded in his chest and the shadows dancing in the water below.

It was night again, so Faith could easily stay hidden anywhere, but since the announcement was still ongoing, giant beams of light shone down on each participant.

"Ladies, gentlemen and everything in-between! It’s time for this special day’s last battle! It’s time to witness the fight between Poseidon and the Leviathan! Let the blood flow and let the better fighter win!" shouted the female announcer, and the crowd cheered as the fight began.

Poseidon didn’t wait a single moment. He summoned his trident and flew straight towards Will, his face twisted in hatred and maddening rage.

Giant waves moved across the water’s surface as Poseidon controlled the entire arena. The water crawled up along the Colosseum’s walls, then reached the Aegis shield, which protected the bleachers from the attacks of the fighters.

The entire arena turned into an enormous water-sphere, as Poseidon’s deep scream of rage echoed through the world. Thousands of sharp, meter long water droplets shot out towards Will, faster than any Transcended could’ve reacted.

Yet... The madman... The Leviathan... He just grinned and chuckled...

One of the most powerful cutting tools of the Old World was water. Shot out through a small enough hole, with a powerful enough speed, it could easily cut through metal. Poseidon tried implementing this as an attack, but on a much larger scale.

The lines of water all aimed flew towards Will, who seemed to stand on empty air. They approached his body, but just before they would’ve connected, something strange happened... The lines of water bent away slightly, evading him by millimeters...

As if the water itself feared him, all the thousands of lines of sharp water evaded his body. However, the weirdest part came when Poseidon arrived by his side and stabbed the trident towards his chest.

Will didn’t attempt to dodge this time either. His dark blue eyes glowed briefly, and the trident changed direction, curving away from his body and stabbing through empty air.

The Leviathan then finally moved. He grabbed the trident’s shaft firmly and pulled Poseidon close, so only a few centimeters separated their faces.

The primordial god’s face was etched in shock and confusion as Will chuckled. He couldn’t seem to comprehend how none of his attacks landed on the Leviathan... Luckily, Will graciously shared his thoughts...

"I think you came into this fight with the wrong mindset! My abilities... They’ve nothing to do with water! I can control something much more profound and powerful!"

A wide, terrifying grin spread across Will’s face as he whispered... "I can control waves!"

Suddenly, all the water inside the arena stopped moving. The waves, which constantly moved across their surface, disappeared. The air also became still, and all the noises went silent.

For a long time after reaching Transcended Rank, Will wondered. His powers, which should’ve been close to his friends’, lacked badly.

His physical strength was above average, while his abilities were useless out of water. The transformation wasn’t great either. Its massive size made it a giant target for enemy attacks, which diminished all its usefulness.

In the past months, knowing he’ll fight in the tournament, Will began testing, searching for new ways to utilize his powers. He was a bit lost, but the straightforward descriptions given by the new silver watch helped.

Eventually, he remembered he could speak into other people’s minds and control them to the tiniest of degrees. He believed his abilities were related to mind and water, but he found no correlation between the two... Not until he walked in on Leslie and Sarah training...

Sarah kept using the air during the fight, changing its pressure, moving it faster like flying blades, or simply increasing it until hundreds of tons worth of air pressed down on Leslie’s body.

While watching them fight, Will felt all the minor changes running through the air. He felt as the tiny particles vibrated at different frequencies, with each explosion caused by Leslie.

He suddenly realized what his ability actually was, and it unlocked his 3rd Heritage. Afterward, he knew what to train and how to reach powers previously unknown to him.

After his little speech, Will’s hand seemed to vibrate once. The vibration passed down onto the trident. It was powerful and fast. Before Poseidon could’ve realized what just happened, it reached his hand.

A sharp pain punctured fingers, then palm and hand. It gradually climbed up his arm. The vibration-like wave destabilized the molecular structure of his body. The pain came from all his bones disintegrating into tiny fragments and piercing his muscles and skin.

Blood dripped from the hundreds of tiny wounds as the wave came close to his upper arm. His hand had already released the trident, and because he lost concentration, Poseidon rapidly fell towards the ground.

With a gasp of pain, Poseidon did something drastic. The wave seemed to pass through his bones, mostly. He couldn’t let it reach his upper body, since if it broke his spine and skull, he couldn’t react to Will’s attacks for a few moments until he healed.

He kept this in mind while his other hand punctured his biceps and broke off a part of his bone. The wave reached it moments later and dispersed near immediately. The blood continued flowing from the wound as it quickly healed.

Poseidon, still falling, summoned the water from below to catch himself. While the Leviathan could control waves, Poseidon could still use the still water... or so he thought...

However, unlike most of his previous opponents, Will gave him no respite. While he was falling, he manipulated airwaves, pushing him upward instead of down. But when the water was about to catch him, he found himself in a vacuum, without air, and actual gravity took hold.

Confused, he couldn’t react in time as the air returned and powerful waves moved through the particles. Suddenly, Poseidon’s eardrums exploded as the powerful waves shook his entire body.

There was nothing he could do... He fell through the air, blood dripping from every orifice, bones breaking from the immense pressure, and his body gradually dissolving... The only reason he didn’t die instantly was because of his Stellar healing...

"Is this really the power of a Stellar? Pathetic!" Shouted Will, spitting out the words, while his face twisted in disgust.

Poseidon couldn’t hear or even see him. His eyes disintegrated soon after his eardrums exploded, leaving him powerless, confused and... terrified...

He had never in his life felt such fear as he did in that singular moment. The inability to fight truly overwhelmed his mind and filled his heart with the horror of his new reality... He was about to die...

The primordial god opened his mouth, trying to beg, yet only a gurgling noise resounded as blood filled his throat and dripped down his face.

Will wasn’t a sadist, but he spent some time reading through the myths related to Poseidon... He couldn’t help but feel delight and a sense of justice as the primordial god struggled to stay alive...

To further deliver poetic justice, he lifted the broken man’s trident. Its dark blue blades gently glinted as the drones’ lights shone down on Will.

The entire arena went silent as he brandished the weapon. With a single swipe, it separated Poseidon’s head and body. He then grabbed the head by its long hair as the trident burst into specks of light.

As Will lifted the head high, the Colosseum burst into loud cheers. The Leviathan chuckled and tossed the head up and down a few times, while the water gradually settled back on the floor.

Eventually, the same question popped into his mind... ’Do you wish to evolve?’

"Fuck yes!" he said in excitement, then passed out.
