CHAPTER 790: ANOTHER TRY

"Father..." Rin looked at Dnanta, her face looked guilty. After all, because of her actions, her father had to lower her head to apologize.

Dnanta smiled as though he didn’t mind it. Instead, this was an opportunity to teach his daughter. "Now you understand, right? You can doubt a person, but a person shouldn’t forget about their manners. If you try to doubt your opponent, do it in a much more elegant way.

"We’re living in a society, so it’s normal to uphold manners no matter the situation. In the past, my master once told me that a person is granted three chances in his life.

"He told me the first chance is to meet him. I have gained my second chance by becoming a chef.

"And right now, this might be a third chance." Dnanta pointed at the bag. "Whatever he is giving us... it doesn’t seem like it’s a beast known everywhere in the world. It might be a hidden project of Aisha Hacfield or Lucifania."

"So, does that mean you’re going bankrupt?" She looked down, wondering if this challenge was because of her.

"Who knows?" Dnanta chuckled. "But I am someone who just loves cooking. I will cook anything, even if it’s rare ingredients that can’t be eaten. If there are indeed so many unknown ingredients, I’m really looking forward to it. All that is left..."

Dnanta was staring at her as though he was telling her she was the only problem left.

"!!!" Rin looked down, observing the chicken nugget.

"You are more talented than me. If you were the chef, how would you plan to cook it?"

Rin fell into deep thought. Once she was thinking about the menu, Dnanta smiled and just walked away because Rin never paid any attention to anything around her in this state.

...

Once the night fell, Clovis, as promised, returned to the shop.

"Ohh! Looks like you have arrived." Dnanta waved his hand. "What do you want to order?"

"Let’s see... How about I go with the chef’s recommendation?" Clovis smiled.

"Hahaha. You definitely know how to play it." Dnanta chuckled. "But it’s not me who will cook it this time."

Clovis didn’t say anything since they had decided it this way. Rin had changed her outfit from the waitress outfit to a chef outfit.

"In that case, I will leave it to you, chef." Clovis nodded to Rin. Rin nodded back and started cooking.

"Hahaha. You might want to look forward to it because I do too." Dnanta chuckled. "Do you want a beer?"

"Sorry. I don’t drink." Clovis shook his head. "It’s just my own rule."

"Is that so? That’s a shame."

"By the way, boss. Are you going to leave soon?" Clovis asked.

"Leaving? Why?"

"I mean, it’s going to be a little noisy here."

"Oh. Are you talking about the little skirmish between the successors of the Dark Moon Mercenary?"

"!!!" Clovis was stunned. "You knew about it?"

"Of course. I know that your group is supporting one of them, while the other is supported by the Three Swords."

"And it doesn’t make you awkward serving me food?"

"Why?" Dnanta raised one finger. "Listen here, young man. Reputations are not built overnight. If you have built your reputation as someone who refuses to work for anyone, that stigma won’t disappear so quickly. Even if I serve you some food, it will be just me serving some food."

"Is that how it works?"

"That’s how it works. In fact, I’m surprised that you are not inviting your group here."

"That’s what I want to do, but I have to respect your decision. You say I’m fated, but my group might not be fated. Besides, I haven’t met them yet." Clovis shrugged.

"And that’s why you’re fated to me." Dnanta chuckled. "If you truly brought your group, I would probably serve you once before leaving the town."

"Hmm..." Clovis contemplated. "Are you leaving simply because fate doesn’t work out for you?"

"To put it simply, yes. I just want to cook. If the fate to cook has disappeared, I will just move on to the next fated encounter." Dnanta glanced down. "But it looks like you have prepared other things for me."

"Oh! We’ll see whether you can recognize these ingredients." Clovis brought the plastic bag to the table.

"Hoho. Isn’t this interesting?" Dnanta’s eyes flashed the moment he saw the ingredients. As he expected, they would be ingredients that only appeared in supermarkets. There were some that had been wrapped nicely, while the others were roughly covered by Clovis.

And some products were already-made-products that only had to be fried.

"This is beef? No, this is not simple beef. The muscle is much stronger than any other beef, yet it still maintains the tenderness. It has been treated once to break down the muscle.

"This one is even weirder... Gelatin?" Dnanta frowned.

Clovis just smiled. It was minotaur beef, so there was no way he could recognize it. The gelatin came from a slime.

It looked like he had won again this time.

"At this rate, you’re going to bankrupt me, young man." Dnanta laughed out loud.

"Should I not?"

"No, please bankrupt me. Just being able to see all these ingredients is enough for me. Looks like it’s going to be an exciting few days. After seeing these ingredients, I promise you. As long as you don’t involve me, you are free to come to this shop to eat, and I won’t leave."

"I’d love to." Clovis nodded.

The sizzling sound suddenly stopped as Rin brought two bowls to the table. "Please enjoy."

Clovis widened his eyes. The cockatrice nugget had changed completely. It was supposed to be golden in color, but this time, it was slightly brown.

Looking at the size, it seemed Rin had minced it one more time and put it together to create one giant piece as a topping. Underneath it was a simple fried rice, but it was much darker due to the sweet soy.

More importantly, there wasn’t supposed to be much aroma from the nugget, yet for some reason, he could smell something so appetizing that his stomach growled all of a sudden.

"Ah..." Clovis blinked his eyes multiple times, embarrassed.

"Now, now. Let’s enjoy. Rin’s skill hasn’t surpassed mine, but she loves tackling problems in a more unique way. This is going to be surprising."

"I understand. Let’s eat." Clovis didn’t expect at that time the surprise would surpass any expectations he had in mind.
