Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 199: Scared to the point of losing control?
CHAPTER 199: CHAPTER 199: SCARED TO THE POINT OF LOSING CONTROL?
Lille Building, in the restaurant.
Lin Yi was quite interested.
Listening to the Americans, and the battle of Lille!
The conflict began about a month ago.
The Americans cleared a Zombie General’s nest in an old French national granary.
Afterwards, they wanted to claim all the grain for themselves.
The New French King opposed this, and a battle erupted.
Since the battle occurred in New France, as soon as a large number of reinforcements arrived, the Americans had to retreat.
Lille occupied the granary and began transporting all the food into the city.
The Americans were unwilling to give up, and they were also very interested in the city’s food production methods, especially the edible larvae and biomass.
According to this talkative man in the suit, once the Americans realized they couldn’t defeat the zombies, they evacuated the remaining troops and some residents from the East Coast.
Then they went to the United Kingdom, believing that the British Isles were their safest destination.
Once there, they cooperated with the British, and after a long and arduous war, finally cleared all threats within Britain...
But then the issue of a dwindling food supply became increasingly apparent.
To avoid famine, they decided to seize food supplies from neighboring countries while searching for alternative food sources.
The British Isles are now ruled by a three-man committee, which includes a former general who is now the president of the New United States.
An unknown-origin New British King.
And the New Irish King.
Lin Yi rubbed his nose: "...There sure are a lot of kings around now..."
"Indeed! I heard there are another two kings in the south of old France who are still fighting each other."
The man in the suit smiled as he spoke, then his expression turned serious: "Why don’t we just get straight to business?"
"I think that’s fine, but first, who are you?"
Lin Yi finished speaking and drank his cup of tea.
This dinner wasn’t bad, but compared to the shelter’s food, the local food was quite average.
"Oh, how could I forget? Please excuse me. I am Charles Lepech, representing the Rube Clan."
"Rube?"
"It’s a commune in Lille... I’d like to propose a small trade. You visited our store earlier today.
The item you sold us, mentioned a Weapon Smith’s workbench. I have a small workshop for making weapons and armor, and we really need such a workbench.
But I can see you’re not short of money, so how about I exchange it for some rare skills or equipment? What do you think?"
"No."
Lin Yi spoke, leaning back in his chair.
The man in the suit leaned forward a bit.
"What did you say? Did you say ’no’? I can still increase the offer for you."
"I don’t plan to sell it."
"Is there no way to change your mind?"
The man in the suit, Charles, his gaze became more severe, with a hint of anger in his voice.
Lin Yi elegantly used a napkin to wipe the corner of his mouth.
"No, but I expect you to."
"Fine! Then don’t blame me for being rude."
Charles clapped his hands forcefully.
At this point, nine armed Professionals wearing Second Level and Third Level armor immediately ran to his side.
Charles shouted loudly.
"Whether you like it or not, you’re going to give me that workbench! You won’t die, but you’ll suffer greatly. I’m giving you one more chance!"
"Look here..." Lin Yi muttered to himself.
He carefully examined the equipment of these professionals.
He was particularly interested in two people.
One was a mage in full Third Level armor, and the other was an archer with partial Third Level gear, holding a Third Level bow.
"Honestly, after you pull such a stupid act, you’ll probably have to spend a fortune just to keep these miserable wretches alive."
Lin Yi smiled slightly, then snapped his fingers.
A hundred well-equipped soldiers suddenly appeared in the room, carrying laser rifles and light beam swords, along with a hundred Beastmen.
To say Charles and his bodyguards were frightened would be an understatement.
They were practically scared out of their wits...
Three minutes later.
Charles and his men.
Were all kneeling on the ground, hands on their heads.
"Despite your extreme rudeness, I’m still willing to forgive you... provided all of your equipment is taken."
"...You can’t do this!"
Charles shouted, jumping up.
Zap!
A laser beam sliced through.
Charles’s belt was cut, and his trousers fell, revealing bright red underneath.
He squatted down in panic, his face flushing red.
Lin Yi looked down at him.
"I read your laws, if anyone tries to kidnap me, rob me, or kill me, I have the right to self-defense. I should also mention, I’ve been recording everything happening here, see..."
A smartphone appeared in Lin Yi’s hand, and on the screen, it was already playing the video of Charles threatening and summoning his thugs.
"How... how could this be..."
"So now what, my friend?"
Lin Yi said mockingly, sitting down next to the suddenly pale-faced Charles.
He put his hand on his shoulder, very friendly.
"What do you think of my proposal?"
"Proposal? What proposal?" The gentleman stammered, barely able to speak.
Lin Yi smiled and held up three fingers.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime proposal! First, I want all the third-level equipment, that’s the first point.
Your shop must buy my long spear at a price of 200 coins each, that’s the second point.
The third point is, I want to make a proposal to Dante, if he accepts you have to let him go."
"It’s outrageous! You can’t do this!"
Charles said, jumping up.
He felt that Lin Yi’s men probably wouldn’t kill him, so he was a bit bolder.
"Terma, my good Beastman Warrior, show the new partner what the consequences will be if they say no."
The Beastman Terma nodded and came forward.
"Don’t you dare touch me!"
Upon seeing this monstrous figure, clad in steel armor from head to toe, towering and muscular.
Charles screamed like a woman.
When Terma removed his helmet, the room was filled with even more thorough screams of fear.
Charles was terrified, he tried to say something but nothing came out.
The Beastman grabbed his neck, lifted him high off the ground, and then opened a mouth full of sharp fangs.
Charles gasped for breath, attempting to escape, but couldn’t budge at all against the 400-pound Beastman’s iron grip.
Terma took a breath and let out a fierce roar.
The gentleman Charles immediately lost control of his bladder, staining the restaurant floor.
Lin Yi covered his nose, laughing.
"I won’t let him eat you, but... heh heh! You’ll agree to my terms, won’t you, good buddy?"
"I agree, I agree!"
Charles stammered, falling onto the wet floor from the Beastman’s hand.
Once he could speak normally, he ordered his most trusted guards to strip off their gear.
The guards, however, began stripping as soon as Lin Yi made his "proposal."
They were much more aware of the situation than Charles.
Solomon, clad in fourth-level armor, returned with the new equipment to the Shelter’s warehouse.
Lin Yi patted the coward Charles on the shoulder then waved, sending his people back to the Shelter.
"I think I’ll go see this Dante."
"Who exactly are you?!" Charles roared.
Lin Yi thought for a moment and flashed a mysterious smile: "Me? I’m just a potato merchant, your good business partner."
"You, you must be... you’re him!"
Charles shouted.
The other guests in the restaurant were equally stunned.
If there were rumors about a strange man who leaves only ruins while selling potatoes wherever he goes, anyone would give him a second glance.
Lin Yi dragged Charles towards the elevator, ignoring the shocked cries of those around.
The guards wanted to block his path but didn’t dare to act, they weren’t keen on courting death...
The two descended to the first floor...
And there they encountered the military police, eight in total, all were Professionals.
"Stop! Let go of Mr. Charles!"
A military policeman shouted, aiming his assault rifle at the audacious Oriental causing trouble in the city center.
"I haven’t broken the law, heh heh!"
Lin Yi threw his video phone to the soldiers.
They carefully viewed the video, especially the moment Charles threatened Lin Yi and attempted to kidnap him.
"Charles and I have reached an agreement, we’re going to his weapon factory, he promised to introduce me to a weapon smith named Dante there.
If he agrees to work for me, I’ll take him. If not, I’ll leave and never bother Charles again."
Once the military police finished watching the video, Lin Yi took back his phone, smiling.
A military policeman nodded and volunteered to act as a mediator.
"I’ll escort you there and supervise."
"Alright!"
Lin Yi nodded and headed for the exit.
Five minutes later, the luxury sedan, the military police vehicle, and the guards’ jeep arrived at the factory.
It was a large building, previously a small shopping mall, guarded by about thirty fully armed people.
They were surprised to see the military police but did nothing, opposing civilians against the military police was tantamount to seeking doom.
The inside of the factory was clean and quite decent.
"Dante’s studio is on the second floor." Charles said and quickly led his "guest" upstairs.
Soon, they arrived at a door guarded by at least four Professionals.
Behind the door was a genuine studio, filled with materials plundered from mutant beasts, workbenches, scrap metal, failed prototypes, and so forth.
But the weapon smith himself was nowhere to be seen.
"He might be in his office." Charles said, then walked towards another door.
Dante was inside.
It turned out that Charles’s most outstanding weapon smith was a short, stout man, evidently starving just a couple of months ago.
The weapon smith was lying in bed, with a middle-aged woman massaging him.
"Sophie, you head out first."
The masseuse nodded, quickly packed her massage tools, and scurried away.
The weapon smith put on a shirt.
He seemed to be around 35 to 40 years old, looking exhausted, with dark circles as a clear indicator...
