Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 35 Mutant Zombie
CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35 MUTANT ZOMBIE
Suddenly, a burst of gunfire erupted without warning, sounding particularly jarring in the deathly silence.
Lin Yi squinted cautiously and whispered into his earpiece, "Xiaochuan, what’s happening?"
"Boss! In the apartment building near you, a group of survivors is under zombie attack. There are women and children among the survivors, and their defense is about to collapse."
"How many zombies?" Lin Yi looked towards the apartment.
At this point, the gunfire inside had already ceased.
"Twenty, led by a mutant zombie. The defenders have Professional weapons, but only two are left fighting hard; the situation looks very desperate."
"Guide me!"
Lin Yi uttered, then took off running madly towards the direction of the apartment.
A mutant zombie!
Lin Yi mused to himself; it seemed he had never directly confronted one of these things before.
However, now he was fully equipped, and with the Shelter skill—a god-level escape ability—he should be able to handle any crisis.
Anyway, he planned to first assess the situation. If he could fight it, he would take it on; if not, he would make a swift retreat.
Lin Yi burst into the building, quickly scanning his surroundings.
The building looked as if it had been violently bombarded, with the walls covered in a dense pattern of pockmarks from bullets.
Every few steps, there was a large, shocking pool of blood on the floor, with bullet casings and pieces of plaster scattered everywhere, yet no sign of any wounded.
This continued until the third floor, where Lin Yi found the location of the battle.
On the third floor, corpses of over a dozen camp defenders lay sprawled on the ground, with countless zombie corpses scattered around.
A few Warriors still clutched their weapons tightly, but they were on the brink of death.
At this moment, sounds came from inside.
Lin Yi poked his head out and locked his gaze on. Behind a makeshift defensive barrier.
He saw two people there, using their last ounces of strength to fight tenaciously against the zombie horde led by a mutant zombie.
This mutant zombie was very cunning, choosing not to attack directly.
Instead, it sent its underlings forward, trying to exhaust the physical strength of these two unfortunate humans.
Lin Yi was ready to shake things up!
He grinned, quickly drawing his rifle.
Once exposed, he wildly sprayed the zombie horde with bullets, pouring an entire clip into them.
The rifle, though practical, was not a Professional weapon, so using it did not earn him experience or loot.
But with the mutant zombie watching intently from the side, Lin Yi couldn’t be bothered by that now; the priority was clearing the field quickly.
As the minions fell one by one, the mutant zombie finally became thoroughly enraged.
Tackle the reasonable before the biased, kill the biased first! the saying goes.
This zombie seemed to understand this principle too, ignoring the two dying people and instead lunging at Lin Yi, the "hero".
However, Lin Yi didn’t choose to confront it head-on but quickly retreated into the stairwell, hiding around the corner, starting a countdown from 5.
When he reached "0," the mutant zombie charged forward, poised to jump down the stairs.
Just as it leaped —
Lin Yi suddenly appeared behind it, delivering a fierce front kick.
The massive body of the mutant zombie tumbled down the stairs like an out-of-control ball, knocking over the numerous zombies climbing up.
Meanwhile, the two near-death Professionals had regained some strength.
They stumbled towards the stairwell, peering down, eyes widening in astonishment.
They watched as Lin Yi, wielding a sword, chased after the zombie horde, hacking mercilessly at any part he could—head, limbs, internal organs, wherever he could slash.
In an instant, blood and severed limbs flew everywhere.
The glaring zombie blood even sprayed onto the face of a Professional on the stairs.
The man shivered, fully awakened, and said with a tremble in his voice, "Is this... is this still a human?"
"I’ve never seen anyone so powerful, he’s simply a monster!" the other Professional muttered.
On his face, pale from blood loss, excitement glowed red, "He alone... equals the fighting power of our entire small camp!"
Suddenly, a shocking roar emanated from the zombie horde.
"Awoooo!"
The mutant zombie sprang out of the pile of corpses, tossing aside both moving and unmoving zombies like rag dolls.
Its body was covered with countless wounds, with blood continuously flowing out.
Raging, it roared, eyes flashing with a bloodthirsty gleam, charging once more at Lin Yi.
Lin Yi grinned, his body flickering to effortlessly dodge the fatal strike.
But his smile froze instantly because his dodge sent the mutant zombie diving towards the two Professionals.
"Ah!" One of the Professionals screamed, his voice filled with terror.
Seeing the dire situation, Lin Yi swiftly grabbed the mutant zombie’s arm, trying to stop its attack.
Damn!
Then, Lin Yi only saw the mutant zombie halt just shy of the female Professional, its mouth nearly touching hers!
"Mmm... mmm..."
Fearing the mutant zombie would bite off the female Professional’s tongue, Lin Yi quickly delivered a side kick, sending the mutant zombie flying to the stair base.
Then, he raised his sword and plunged down, accurately piercing the mutant zombie’s head.
The mutant zombie collapsed thunderously, dropping a green Reward Egg, dramatically different from the usual white ones.
Lin Yi guessed it must be a high-level item, but planned to examine it later.
He leisurely returned to the ruins on the third floor, which was already a complete mess...
The two surviving defenders were covered from head to toe in blood, wounds all over their bodies.
The female Professional was a blonde plump woman, with one eye swollen shut and bloodstains around her mouth.
But noticing the Vaccine Bracelets on their wrists, Lin Yi’s mind was set at ease, knowing they wouldn’t turn into zombies the next moment.
At this moment, several women and children, carrying medical supplies, emerged from inside.
Some busied themselves dressing the Professionals’ wounds, others scavenged through the bodies of the dead and zombies, while the rest rebuilt the barriers to prevent any further zombie attacks.
When the female Professional saw Lin Yi approaching,
she quickly pulled up the slightly younger male Professional beside her, "Quickly, get up, our savior is here."
"I saw him. I’m not blind," the male Professional said, more heavily injured, but still struggled to stand.
He placed a hand on his chest, bowing deeply to Lin Yi before saying, "Thank you for your help, but we have nothing left—no ammunition, no weapons, no food."
"I’m Lin Yi, what’s your name?"
"Blaise." The young man panted, a hint of anxiety in his eyes.
He had personally witnessed Lin Yi’s formidable power.
Even had he not been injured, he was certain that not even the entire camp put together could stand against Lin Yi.
He was full of worry, afraid that the zombie slay was merely a sideline for Lin Yi and that his true intention was to plunder resources, including women and children from the camp.
So, as soon as they conversed, he couldn’t wait to tell Lin Yi that they had nothing left.
He hoped Lin Yi would spare their camp!
