Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields
Chapter 69: First Team Battle
CHAPTER 69: CHAPTER 69: FIRST TEAM BATTLE
Paris, on the street.
A young Shelter Warrior tightly gripped the sword in his hand, his gaze fixed on a twitching zombie with severed limbs.
He took a deep breath, summoned his courage, slowly approached the zombie, raised his knife high, and then thrust it fiercely into the zombie’s skull.
"I can do it too!" he shouted loudly, his voice carrying a hint of excitement and pride.
Before long, other warriors joined in, wielding their weapons, rushing toward the immobilized zombies on the battlefield.
At this moment, Lin Yi was standing in front of a particularly unique-looking mutant zombie.
This zombie was tall, distinctly different from regular zombies. More bizarrely, it had two extra legs growing behind its back.
However, its spine had been broken, rendering the extra legs immobile. It could only lie on the ground, hissing and feebly reaching out toward living humans.
Solomon curiously asked, "Boss, what exactly is this thing?"
"I guess this is the origin of the Centaur." The boss grinned and with a flick of his wrist, the sword in his hand instantly separated the mutant zombie’s head from its body.
"A blue Reward Egg!" Solomon exclaimed excitedly, picking up the loot and handing it to Lin Yi.
The color of the Reward Egg’s packaging varies, and thus the rewards inside also differ. White is the worst, green is slightly better, and blue is more precious.
Lin Yi did not rush to check the reward but instead slowly surveyed the entire battlefield.
On the battlefield lay nearly ten thousand zombies, either dead or dying, which undeniably were a windfall of enormous wealth.
Under Solomon’s command, the warriors began systematically dealing with the zombies and transporting their corpses back to the Shelter.
Overall, everything progressed very smoothly.
Except for a few minor incidents.
A warrior accidentally got bitten by a zombie while killing it. Fortunately, he successfully advanced to become a Professional and gained the skill to Transform into a Werewolf.
Like Da Chuan, he also acquired the trait of Immunity to Level 1 Zombie Virus, so he had no worries about mutations.
However, this novice Werewolf, upon acquiring his powerful abilities, grew a bit overconfident and careless, resulting in his leg getting bitten hard by a zombie again.
He was in pain and frustration, not only dealing with the physical agony but also enduring Solomon’s stern rebuke.
At this moment, a warrior suddenly shouted, "Boss! Captain Solomon, there’s a live one here!"
"Then deal with it! You can never have too much Experience Points." Solomon responded with a frown.
The warrior paused, confirmed the situation, and shouted again, "Uh... no, Captain, I mean there’s a living person here."
"Oh, really? Let me see." Lin Yi heard and walked over.
Sure enough, beneath an overturned jeep, he found a soldier with no apparent wounds but unconscious.
Lin Yi, with a thought, teleported the military jeep directly to the Shelter.
Then he instructed, "Disarm him and tie him up, but be cautious, he might turn into a zombie."
"Yes, Boss!" responded several nearby warriors in unison, immediately taking action.
At this time, Solomon ran over.
He reported, "Boss, the work here is about to finish. Should we follow the trail of the military vehicles?"
Lin Yi listened closely, noticing the occasional machine gun sounds in the distance, becoming increasingly faint.
After pondering for a moment, he nodded slightly, "It’s worth a chase, at least to gather some biomass and scout the area, but don’t send too many people."
"Understood, Boss!" Solomon took the order and prepared to organize the team for further action.
Fifteen minutes later.
After collecting the remaining zombie corpses and loot, most warriors returned to the Shelter.
At this moment, only eighteen people were left on the scene.
Solomon, Da Chuan, Xiaochuan, thirteen warriors, and the rescued soldier.
The soldier remained unconscious, quietly lying in a shopping cart they had found.
Lin Yi led the squad, slowly moving forward.
After all, scouting by Melanie took some time, and they also needed to gather all the zombie corpses along the way and teleport them to the Shelter.
The group proceeded to a street corner.
Listening to Melanie’s report over the earpiece, Lin Yi raised his hand, signaling the group to stop
"There’s a group of zombies around the corner. We need to weaken them from a distance. Archers, prepare to shoot!"
He finished speaking and waved his hand.
Xiaochuan and another new Archer warrior instantly appeared on the roof of a bus.
Soon, over thirty zombies appeared from around the corner, all regular zombies, without mutations.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Two arrows shot out like lightning, precisely piercing the heads of two zombies.
This sudden attack instantly ignited the zombies’ fury, and they roared madly, rushing irrepressibly toward the direction from which the arrows came.
As the zombies drew closer, their hideously terrifying appearances became increasingly visible.
Xiaochuan remained remarkably calm, steadily drawing his bow and releasing arrows, each shot securely hitting a zombie’s head.
However, the new Archer was struggling. His face turned increasingly pale, and his hands holding the bow began to tremble, making it impossible to aim precisely at the zombies.
Seeing the zombies closing in on the two, Lin Yi waved his hand again. Xiaochuan and the new Archer were teleported to the opposite side of the bus.
At this moment, the zombies grew even more furious, almost reaching a state of complete frenzy.
The zombies, who initially ran on two legs, now used both hands and feet, madly twisting direction at an increased speed, charging at the archers’ position.
Noticing this, Lin Yi frowned slightly and asked the team, "Who else has long-range attack skills?"
"Boss, let me try!" A warrior stepped forward, swiftly joining the battle.
Muttering incantations, he summoned shards of glass and hurled them at the zombie horde with great effort.
Unfortunately, his attack only slowed down the zombies somewhat, without causing significant damage...
"Don’t be too tense, aim for their weak points like the head, eyes, neck, and Achilles heel."
Lin Yi’s encouragement revitalized the warrior.
He quickly adjusted his stance, took a deep breath, and launched his skill again—hurling glass shards at the zombies.
This time, his aim improved significantly. One shard accurately hit a zombie’s eye, deeply embedding into its brain.
However, the warrior’s face had already turned pale, clearly indicating he had exhausted his Magic Power and could no longer fight.
"Alright, comrades, I will set up a barricade, and you flank the enemy."
As Lin Yi spoke, he teleported a pile of hefty furniture from the Shelter into the sky.
In an instant, the weighty furniture, like heavy artillery shells, crashed fiercely onto the charging zombies.
The zombies were baffled, either crushed to the ground or scattered away.
Solomon immediately raised his One-Handed Sword and shouted:
"Warriors, charge!"
